Well tutorials are hardly bogus. Maybe you were just looking at the wrong ones-if that's the case, then keep looking for others.
But if you have Photoshop, then you also must have the Photoshop Manual. I suggest opening it up and reading it, it's very helpful for beginners. Just try things out, don't be afraid. That's the only way you will learn.

Hi,there. I know u weren't asking for tutorials but it's hard to give u any advice when I don't know how familiar you're with photoshop's tools or with colors, digital or not, do work with a tablet, or what kind of coloring u want to do (comic book,illustration, etc.). Colors, for me, is the most important thing to know along with some drawing basics, if u want to add volume to your pieces. Anyways, I figured u just want to get busy so I went to look for a few of the tutorials I feel that helped me when I started.
This one is a really great tutorial although a bit more advanced but good to show you why
knowing colors is so important:
