View Full Version : an unexpected mental ray

i am rendering a simple scene with GI an FG.
when rendering i get the warning message over and over again in the output window:

warn : maya_state(): Called on an unexpected ray.

all my objects have shaders assigned to them, belonging to shading groups.
there is no shading groups with no shaders attached to them.
any idea???

Are your scene units correct? usually this is the number one problem.

do you mean the grid units (cm)

or objects in the scene?

go to customise / units setup.

Select cm to start with.

Create a box in your scene. It should be about 50cm long for instance. Scale your scene down to the size of the box.

Try render again.

This is just an idea to see if your scene size is problematic. When rendering with Mental ray it is always a good idea to work with units as the rendering calculations are done that way.

Hope this resolves the problem.

i guess it has something to do with maya light fog when rendering in mental ray.

the scene unit isn't a problem.
