I'm in the open ocean - storm
I'll give me the challenge to recreate a perfect storm like scene... without plugins or fluid... just blendshapes and particles !

I did this quick model of the andrea gail in one hour... will not go further as the ship will be very small on screen

I don't realy know for now... I certainly will use 2d sprites ! or waterSpray shooted on a black screen :)

after some tests... I found the way to create the foam blown by wind with a softbodies nurbs plane emitting particles with a texture... sorry the movies are not the same ratio as my playblasts

thanks a lot... I would like to go further, but I didn't find the way to emit particles from peaks, but I think the illusion is ok... If I knew C++ and mel would be so easy ! :sad:

I didn't have time to continue working on the FXWar until yesterday... I made quick renders with hardware rendering
I probably will not have time to finish it, but try to work this evening on it...

I like your entry a lot.
Ok my advice so you can keep your sanity.
Render what you have at 640 x 400 resolution with no transparency.
That should be good enogh for this contest.

I really like your entry but there's one thing that you could fix and that's the wave the boat is on. I think the motion of wave isn't believable because I think the wave should have gone passed the boat way earlier or move a little bit faster.
But I'll defenetaly be wathching your thread for updates and hopefully you can finish it :)

many thanks for your feedbacks... I will not have time to recreate animation of the wave... would like to, but time is not with me... would like to add some fog, rain and foam around the boat...

another update !
still a lot of rotoscoping on particles layers... as you can see I have boat as mask on rain :(
