here...my story

after world war-X, where nuclear weapon is highly use, there is no winner in the war, only survivor, the massive destruction cause the planet fully cover with smog (dust?) total human population drop until 0.1%, human race lost every thing during the war, what they get is only a mask, the mask to keep them survive in the outdoor.

after a few years, with unknown reason, the smog (haze, dust?) start diverging…unveiling the blue sky, the sun light first touch on the land, grass start growing again, flowers…

a young girl won’t believe what she just saw, she takes off her mask, enjoying the fresh air…she remember the flowers, green grass and the blue sky when she was 5 years old and her parents, who scarified in the war…

but her little brother is so curious, what the hell is all those colorful thing, and why there is bright light from the sky?

So different to the reminder I get each morning when starting up my Animator pdf. Your terrifing creature is "intense". Nicely done!!

How are we suppose to compete with you!! :banghead:

This competition started with a few threads, then all of a sudden like a school project thats due the following day, we all flood the server with our ideas. This competition is going to be hard to win!! So much good talent!!

I remember trying to racing a man on a ten speed when I was a kid and he said that by edging his front wheel further forward in front of the opposing rider that you can cause them to loose motivation and make them to give up trying to come back and beat you.

I'm middle aged now. I hope this still doesn't apply.

Great to have you in this competition. Your talented is very much appreciated here!

My motivation to beat Loon (hehehehehehe): I used to run for the North West, and in one 200m race I had a terrible start and was miles behind (miles behind in a 200m race is impressive ;) But! I ended up winning the race by 0.02 of a second.

Take that loon!!! Look behind you! Muhahahahaha!

this is developing nicely. i avoided the ear so far, its just to comlex for me right now, but sometime i will try it. no critic from my side.

a very first test GI render,total 2 lights, one with transmission shadow, no shader, Encage subdivided once, it took 2-3minutes on my old 1.6ghz P4, but if i increase Encage subdivision to 2, it tooks about 20 minutes to render...:sad:

I'll need a new machine!!!:twisted:

Uwe you are right, there is something wrong to the lower ear (what do we call that?) I've modify a bit, will post something after I finish the body...

modeling on the young girl, actually a fast tweak on the first model, the result...
just incase it doesn't looks like a girl, I paint her some hair, make-up a bit...

how are you texturing the models? unwrap UVs? can silo supply good, usable UVs?

Thanks, silo doesn't unwrap UV YET! (Silo 2 is coming this month?)
I'll use Blender which is good enough for the task.

My only problem is the hair, FiberForge is good, but to create the hair similar to this will take a lot of time, I might go for clipping map...

the progress is moving slow recently, have not work on this for 2 days due to some other works...:sad:.

Anyway here are my status, The charecter modeling is done, except some texture mapping, and the girl hair is not done yet... I try to use FiberForge, but couldn't get the result i wanted, so I'll go for poly model the hair in silo...

the grass is from FiberForge, The plants model in silo also, Terrain from image2Mesh+Silo, and the some clouds test, still haven't decide how i fill the sky yet...:rolleyes:

no GI render yet, I know it will take quite a lot of time :twisted:, II'll continue on this after I finish my work in hand, probably next week...

Thanks for the nice word and sorry for the late reply, the clouds is created from Dante together with Dante clouds shader…


Here are the background pass… I'll finish the front later (I'll composite the two in photoshop...is that permited?)

I’ve use 15 variation of different clouds ‘Normal Maps’ map on a plane, but I've increase the contrast on the Alpha channel, hope I'm not disqualify on this :), than I use dante again to replicate to fill the sky…

So, I'm sure you will be fine compositing the BG and FG passes in Photoshop, don't know about your Alpha antics though we'll have to see what the competition overlord says about that.

It looks tasty! I like the atmosphere, can't wait to see the final composite,

the modify on the alpha channel is brighten the grey area into white using the levels adjustment...so it won't make a thin clouds (yes I want Thick clouds)

pretty nice!

only thing i have to mention: the clouds look a little bit small. compared to the groundtexture and the lightbeams they seem to be tiny and very low.
if you compare the datails on the ground near the right lightbeam and go straight up the light you'll see what i mean. don't get me wrong, the mood is beautifull, but the scale doesn't seem to fit.
...or maybe i am just dizzy from working 3 days straight with only 5 hours sleep :banghead:

Loon, the clouds have a great volumetric look about them! You might set dante to rotate each object differently to add more randomness. Better check with Brian about brightening the alpha channel. Doubt if it is allowed and wouldn't want to see you disqualified after all your hard work. Looking forward to seeing your final image.

Ok.. let me clarify this. My biggest concern are indivduals using photoshop to touch up mistakes or to add/remove things that can't be done in EIAS. Compositing layers together is permissable because some users have slower machines and lesser amounts of RAM and they need to composite their work together in stages. As long as you are not painting, using a special non-EIAS plugin, or any other tool that modifies the pixels (outside of compositing) you're good. Using transfer modes between layers like add, lighten, darken, inverse, etc.. are acceptable because they exist in EIAS. Masking is only acceptable if the mask was generated through EIAS as an alpha channel.

Thanks! I appreciate the comment from you all...

after looking into the image again and again, I found that...
1. the face expression is not there, the girl should look happy, the boy should show some curiosity
2. I need to put some details on the shirt (the bone rig can't produce that... I need to work that in Silo
3. consider adding some atmosphere on the front pass, probably Glare and Glow.
4. UV Map!

I'll work on this again after the winner announce...

As I promise to post the WIP, I'll start with hair first...

the hair is texture map, I start create with a flat 'Grid' in silo (that is the name in silo)
than export obj to Blender just to assign a UV space (use the whole UV space, else there might some positioning problem in EIAS), than bring it back to Silo, Silo 1.4 doesn't have UV mapping yet, but i found it 'remember' any import object contains UV data, and export without any problem.


duplicate the 'Grid' and start position and modify to covered the head. but keep in mind that Do not add any vertex or edge.


because I don't plan to animate the hair, I decide to Merge the hair in to 1 group, it will be easier for me to manage it in EIAS, (don't worry about losing the UV data)
but IF I plan to animate the hair, I won't 'Plant' the the hair in silo, I'll do that in EIAS...
After satisfy positioning the hair, Export the model to obj. than convert the obj to fact with all the check box uncheck (except the 'process vertex normals' & 'fix smooth shading')


and here are the diffuse map cilpping map and specular map.


import the fact model into EIAS, under the shading tab of the info window, check using UV space and uncheck Normalise

Wow! This is the first tutorial on hair I have ever seen in EI. Didn't know people were doing this kind of stuff.

I may take a look at Silo. I sort of brushed it off before but now that I see what people are doing with it.

I really like your edge loop layout on the face. Is there a tutorial for that as well or link? I haven't done a human face but I hope to soon.

BTW, the english is better than mine and I'm American.
