View Full Version : Demo reel 2005 and Short Film

02 February 2006, 04:33 PM
The demo reel

It's composed by full-finished jobs, all done in 2005. There are some things to improve, but I expect to show them in my next reel.

The short film

Well, this is harder to explain than the rell I ran it since last days of 2004 till June 2005, as a final work for one of my Fine Arts degree subject. I planned to finish it earlier, but I had a lot of work because of the rendering, so I have just finished it some weeks ago.

I know the animation sucks: I had to do all the animation in one month if I wanted to reach the deadline that teachers drew. In addition, I have no idea about animating...

Anyway, I have learned a lot of things that I've used later, so it was a nice experience

Mirror Link #0 (Thanks Lordloki) ------> 65 Mb

Ok, so I hope you like it. Thanks for reading!

p.s.: you'll need Quicktime 7 in order to see video files.

Great reel, all of the models are really nice and especially the first male model.
the short film rocks to, the paint coming out of the bottle and the paint strokes
were really cool effects.

02 February 2006, 07:15 PM
My confidence is a little bit shaked, after looking at your reel.
Too much "minute" modeling, especially the predator model, Just OMG to me, Do I need to stop rely on 2D texturing?

02 February 2006, 07:16 PM
Master  :applause: :applause: , congratulation for the frontpage

02 February 2006, 09:31 PM
woowwwww I´m surprised!!:surprised:blush::bowdown:

Thanks everybody!!! thanks for plugging me on front page!!!

Polybuilder. Have you any other personal project in the pipe-line?

I'm planning to do a hiper-realistic portrait, to concentrate every single thing I've learnt doing the reel and the short films in a one model, and of course for pushing me to the limits.

cgi_dude. 1 quection how did you do the wireframe to appear in render on max?

The wireframe models are rendered in two passes: one with Ambient Occlusion done with Mental Ray, and the other (wireframe pass) was done with VRay and VRayEdgesTex. Once you have both layers, you can compose them in post-production.

Dick Ma.Do I need to stop rely on 2d texturing?

It depends on what you want to show on the shot, even your style. I wanted to force me to detail the models with geometry, so I wanted to guess where were my limits with the polygons

P.D: Thanks IkerCLon...que haria yo sin ti...

02 February 2006, 09:35 PM
You're welcome, dude ;) I'd do whatever is needed to help a friend

02 February 2006, 10:15 PM

Very nice reel, I really liked your harpy great inspiration.

02 February 2006, 12:51 AM
Hey man, after all those replies I am dying to see your demo, I already have it downloaded, but the Quicktime player tell me there is some other codec I need in order see it, and it also tells me that needed codec is not available in the Quicktime page,

Anybody can help ???

Thank you..

02 February 2006, 12:56 AM
Wow, very good Job! It's nice well done and So cool :applause:

02 February 2006, 01:02 AM
Nakary, I've used H.264 codec to compress the video, so you'll need QuickTime 7 for watching it ;)

Guys, I'm having troubles with some of my mirrors ('bandwith exceeded' and things like that), so I apologize if you are not able to download the 'high quality' versions of the reel and the short film. I wish I find some mirrors as soon as I can...

02 February 2006, 01:05 AM
"save target As" :D

good work

02 February 2006, 01:14 AM
Really nice stuff here. I especially liked the first model - The Urban Soldier. The jeans with the holes were a nice detail. The Predator model was also very well done, as was the Harpy... Aw heck, I pretty much loved just about all of it. :buttrock:

02 February 2006, 02:08 AM
I really love Lobo in this, he really comes together once viewed with his texture. The hair on him is so good I thought it was painted!
Keep it up mate.

02 February 2006, 02:55 AM

It is just a kind appreciation from me, just your modeling is so in detail that can replace 2D texture.

Just currently I have my own character creation, that would like to do that "net clothing" like your predator. At the first time I just think 2D texture should be OK for that but now I have to modeling it out because you did it.

02 February 2006, 05:59 AM
Hey Ballo,

congratulations on the front page. I really loved your short film. excellent use of mixed CG styles. Kudos!

Hey Ballo!!!

Great Job!! Don't worry about the animation, you have the rest of your life to perfect that part of the trade. Keep working hard! Great stuff!

JD

02 February 2006, 05:57 PM
Great looking work, I'm a huge Lobo fan, so I was happy to see him in your reel.

02 February 2006, 08:50 PM

sorry but the demo reel is not working after i download it, i tried real player and quick time and ms media player and the problem still there i even update my application, and nothing change can u help me please.

thank u

02 February 2006, 05:34 PM
In the short, there's a black edge surrounding the guy. I figur that's from compositing, and that the guy is in a separate layer with alpha channel. Try to make it premultiplied alpha. (If you're using AfterFX you'll just find this as a radio button in the "interpret footage" window).

02 February 2006, 06:32 PM
Awesome!

Very good work Ballo!

I suppose that you spent long time doing so brilliant work :applause:

02 February 2006, 06:35 PM

02 February 2006, 07:40 PM
Amazing Demo reel friend

02 February 2006, 05:58 AM
Awesome demo reel... but I am here to point out a flaw on your last character.
On the back of the last character there is a hole that you can see through (When it rotates you can see the color of the horns in the front). Thought you would like to know, it is only noticeable when texture and color is added.

Nice work though!

02 February 2006, 05:13 PM
Graet job!!!... Is envidence.

02 February 2006, 11:13 PM
I've been quite busy this week, so sorry for not answering as soon as I wanted.

I would to thank you every person that has downloaded the reel and the short film. I'm very proud of it.

Thanks, Beho. The alpha-matte errors are now solved in the 'high' version of the short film.

Thanks, Buhby, I gotta check that out.

Thanks everybody again! I'm looking for a job right now

02 February 2006, 01:42 AM
