"ROCKET RACING LEAGUE"
One of my favorite magazines is Popular Science.
I love how their positive spin for their visions of the future.
So for a few days I want to experiment doing magazine covers.
The idea is that you have been commisioned to do a cover for one of their articles.
Here is your research. The plane you draw has to be based on thier idea, but you can get very creative in terms of the track and plane decorations.
Rocket Racing League (plane photos on both site)
Keep in mind, these plane will have corporate sponsors, so the planes will be VERY colorfull and full of ads.
SCIENCE NEWS COVER TEMPLATES:
SMALL (http://www.savefile.com/files/3549546) (524K)
MEDIUM (http://www.savefile.com/files/8905807) (1.5 M)
BIG (http://www.savefile.com/files/6517574) (4 M)
You can change the layer for the article title and the wording for it, but the cover concept cannot change.
The templates are in psd format. If anyone needs it converted, please ask.

About 4 hours work total... majority of the time was spent modeling (Im not at all a 3D guy). Modeled a generic rocket in modo, rendered it in zbrush, comped everything in photoshop.

I've got one - do not blur main theme of the picture, there is no point in spending hours painting something only to blur it away eventually. Agressive perspective or very simple and blured background is usually sufficient enought to indicate speed.
Did You check DailySketch Tutorial thread? http://forums.cgsociety.org/showthread.php?t=200222 There are some video tutorials and custom brushes, rest is just practice and practice with some more practice inbetween - and DSF is really good place to do it.
(I'ope my english is understandable :)) cheers
