I never played WoW, so I did my own interpretation of a world of warcraft. Anyway, I had only one hour to spend in the skech and will not finish it (i get bored, lol). I was here:

...and this was part of a bigger composition.

I'm sure today I was TOO optimist with the work I can handle in one hour :)

Photoshop CS 6minutes or so.

01 January 2006, 09:05 PM
Was thinking I wanted to avoid fan art kind of stuff, but had no cleaver ideas soo. Here's my old character from when I used to play.
Artrage 40min.

Telemaco - Great Stuff, Amaizing the size of some of your creations. I Love the guy on the top left, jumping from knowhere, sword over head into the mix. Good luck little jumping guy!

01 January 2006, 09:10 PM
Well i don't play it either (i'm afraid to try it in case i get hooked :argh:)

But i understand it can be a bit of a timestealer ... and i read somewhere in a recent survey that a lot of people felt more successful as their electronic alter ego than in the real lives :hmm:

Anyway - spent too much time on this or not enough. Used a lot of brush work on a scanned pencil drawing to play with shading, but am now out of time even though i would have likedc to tone everything up a bit

Oh well about 2h30mins, Pencil, PS + Wacom

Alright, so I was going to do a ship full of trolls on their way to war. But they got scared, and are now hiding in the ships hold. Took about 2 hrs in Artrage.

Overchord- Lookin good man.

Zyrinx- Ooooohhhh, Scary. Good work.

Telemaco- So much going on with this one I don't know where to begin. I like it though.

Got carried away on this one, and I had a hard time with the Troll and some aspects of the background...
"Jungle Troll making his way through Stranglethorn Vale"
Photoshop CS ~3h (a big thanks to Goro for his Brushes ^^ )

Telemaco : excellent one ^^ I like how you've tones of things going on the pic at the same time, it's somthing really hard to achieve and you pulled it off pretty well
Zyrinx : nice Troll, perhaps just a bit too dark
Overchord : Sadly it's true enough... I even know of some really capable people who failed their studies because of such games :hmm: funny sketch though ^^
Wiggin : I think you should have filled those white parts they tend to draw the eye away from the pic
rawwad : as usual, wonderful, you have a really powerful pic there
danielh68 : great mood and you did a nice job with the colors

01 January 2006, 10:29 AM
Telemaco, nice work, I wish you could finish this one.
Rawad, powerfull!
Aelwine, still "magical stuffs", I like your colors:D . (maybe improve the anatomy of the troll, especially the shoulders axis)

01 January 2006, 10:49 AM
Deniel! Strong colors! I love them, great concept!

Telemaco: huge picture, i love the details, nice one, if there is a little chance to finish it than do it ;)

Thanks ^^ and you put the finger on it, I sucks when it comes to anatomy XD taht'w why I try to hide it with backgrounds lol
And you're right about the shoulders T_T

World of Warcraft...I spent a lot of time playing this game. I finally sold my character to make myself quit. Great game, lots of fun but it is truly a huge time suck.

This is a sketch of my main character. He's an orc hunter with a white cat as a pet. I thought it'd be cool to depict him about to attack something, what exactly, is up to the viewer (I was thinking he's jumping an elf hunter). I sorta cheated on the cat because I stole the head from a sketch I started for the Master Servant Challenge but the rest is new so I hope you guys'll let it slide :)

Telemaco - I love it. I hope you'll finish it and post it some day. I am a huge fan of large super detailed images.
Zyrinc - It looks really dark on my laptop screen.
Overchord - Very cool. Most of my friends have quit but the expansion is coming and they want to start playing again. I must resist and keep sketching :)
Wiggin - if the castle had some perspective like the ship it might help the image be more dynamic.
Rawwad - your stuff is always so damn cool. Always inspire me to keep pushing myself.
Daniel - really captures the fury and chaos of battle.
Aelwine - really nice. You make it look so easy. Great colors and I love the background statues etc. Makes me feel like I'm back in stranglethorn :)

Hand drawn + photoshop (approx 4.5hrs)

This is a concept design i worked up for a orc hunter.
As finished as i could get it in the timeframe..

Had to do something for WOW, it did take over my life for 2 months. That game can mess with your head man.
Inspired by a screenshot I had taken when I was playing.

PS, about 2 hours

Wacom + ArtRage 2/OpenCanvas; A little over an hour.

A little late on this topic - but the noble Tauren were under represented. Moo!

Vahn - I like the mood of this piece. The warlock stikes a nice balance between malice and madness
Kiko82 - good color pallete choices; The night sky is well done.
RedFrog - lots of detail. Very nice cartoon style. Coloring is simple but effective
Novacaine - excellent background. Magical weapon is evident without being distracting
Aelwine - nice architecture; Washed-out background is good - is that the correct way to carry a bow?
danielh68 - vivid coloring. Strong poses and the foreground is stark without being too gory
rawwad - nice texturing; subtle lens flare.

good work guys!

Telemaco: I love it!!
Aelwine: nice job!!!

I used to play a tauren shaman on WOW and I thought it would be cool to make him battle against an Infernal...
so, this is my piece: I don't have time to finish it so I'll just post the link for those interested ;)

one hour photoshop + wacom
updates will be posted in my "lair" (link in the signature)

02 February 2006, 11:42 PM guys. danielh68, that's spectactular.
I'd do a better one, but I'm too busy playing WoW.

02 February 2006, 06:13 AM
Better late than never... yey now I am officially up to date with my sketches.

I've never played this game.. but I remember seeing this mean looking guy on one of the WOW commericals and I thought he looked cool...

Used reference from the WOW ad.. pretty much same pose and character. Took me 3.5 hours long sketch but I had a lot of fun doing it I didnt even notice the time. Spent most of the time working on the armor around his shoulders. ... by the time I got to his skant clothing I got tired.. I would like to add some more texture to the leather of his skirt :D

3.5 hrs photoshop - I always struggle with the shadows of skin... What I pretty much do is just dodge and burn for light and shadow.... anyone have a better technique?

redfrog love it, how you get such clean vector looking lines in photoshop? Great character
Overchord :D HA! thats funny.
Aweline wow dude that is really nice
Rawwad I love it when you work in blue.
Daniel I like this piece a lot, its very different and I like the dynamic colors you choose.
Telemaco so cool, great capture of war
Novacine long time no see! nice sketch, i like the tiger
Vahn great work with the little gnome, you are very good at drawing people and characters.
