View Full Version : Mr. Baroud, Visionmaster (3D)

12 December 2002, 04:01 PM (

hi, i try to make an old man .

12 December 2002, 04:04 PM

12 December 2002, 04:35 PM
I think thats really good, especially the lighting. Hes got soul to him. The skin looks like skin rather than a model with a texture.

Really nice

12 December 2002, 04:39 PM

12 December 2002, 05:16 PM

you did a really good job. you put soul in him through yr shading/texturing/lighting especially on the third pic.
i just wonder could you post a wireframe and also snapshots of the textures so we can learn more from you?

looking forward to see more
btw theres some bump lines that i think are too strong. and something bout his hair too when viewed from the side.

12 December 2002, 06:59 PM
I think the roots of the hair should be more prominant, and maybe increase the amount/length of the hair by a slight amount. Right now it seems you are only going half way with the concept of the hair.

The skin's bump could be reduced very slighlty, while the spec could be increased a tad. It looks a bit unnatural as it is.

Amazing modelling though, and overall I think it's impressive :)

12 December 2002, 07:19 PM
Very good . It that just a head shot or will your finish the whole body ?

12 December 2002, 07:55 PM
that third picture is amazing.

Keep up the good work, and some wires would be useful.

12 December 2002, 08:05 PM
thank you for your comments
here is another one with reducing bump.
the hair are not finish and i must smoothing the model .

12 December 2002, 10:10 PM

12 December 2002, 04:02 PM
Its amazing, I love it. The only complaint I have is the hair it looks a little wier. GO MAX!

12 December 2002, 04:12 PM
Looks great.
So is that medicinal weed he's smoking? :scream:

The hair needs some work thou.... imho.

12 December 2002, 06:00 PM
What do you mean with: "I TRY to make an old man"??

12 December 2002, 06:23 PM
:applause: :applause: :applause: :applause: :applause:

12 December 2002, 06:55 PM
Really nice!!

My only Critique would be the ear, it sorta looks like Couliflour (sp) ear Like wrestlers get. But perhaps this old mans ear should look quite weathered.

I like IT!!

12 December 2002, 07:30 PM
I think you should count this as a masterpiece..:bounce:

12 December 2002, 07:40 PM
:bounce:  :)

12 December 2002, 07:45 PM
This is fantastic the only critic I have is about the hair like every one else,I think the problem lies in the hair colour its to light almost the same as the skin in the first two shots but as latter shots with the face full frontal and slight change in lighting it does look much better FIRST CLASS:applause:

12 December 2002, 07:45 PM
"Nice to see you Mr. Baroud!"

No, seriously. The third picture looks amazing. I think that you hit the spot with his smile. I stared at the picture and thought that somehow the facial expression reminds me of something. It took me a while until i realized that the smile is similar (no offense!) to the typical "Popeye" one somehow!
Cant look at it without grinning a bit. His "good temper" ( at least at picure three) seems to be infectious.

12 December 2002, 07:48 PM
Just brilliant! He looks like one of those retired Football players that has retired and started to coach a bunch of kids in some run-down village  Thats what came to my head. He really says alot, il ya a beaucoup d'histoire dans ses yeux! Kinda a mix of fatigue and experience, j'aime!

Carl

12 December 2002, 07:51 PM
What I love the most Mr iiyama is your file names... of course you have to be french to understand it, and if possible to understand local 'patois' :)

Anyway your work is really great visionmaster. You have my total consideration !

I'd like to see more of it. Do you intend to make something else than stills with him ? Maybe an animation ? a short movie ?

Thanks a lot for sharing such stuff, I hope to hear from you very soon !

12 December 2002, 08:02 PM
bin va jouez au p'tanque nè, q'c'es beauu!!

12 December 2002, 08:13 PM
Tats one winning smile you gave him there, i'd like to see a stronger key light shining into his face just for us detail inspectors to pick appart the detail this model consists of. :wavey:

12 December 2002, 08:14 PM
Is gramps hittin a doobie?

12 December 2002, 08:25 PM
UNBELIEVABLE... 5 stars if i ever seen it:thumbsup:

12 December 2002, 08:37 PM
What? Down to 3 stars? Good lord...

Carl

12 December 2002, 08:38 PM
Don't ask me why, but for some reason he makes me think of an old Edward Norton, especially the image in the second post of your thread. Maybe it's the mouth. doubt about it, awsome work.

12 December 2002, 08:43 PM
Heeeyyyy thats so cool man! :buttrock:

third picture looks like a real nice old grandpa!

:airguitar :D

12 December 2002, 08:45 PM
at second look, he doesnt look that much like a nice guy...
But the model is still extremely cool and good"!!

12 December 2002, 08:50 PM
Wow this is realy impressive the expressions are just beautiful.

Like the others I think there is a small problem whit the hairs, I don't do any 3D, but I'm a drawer, so maybe what I'm gonna say is wrong... I think that the problem is the size of the forehead, it's too small.

exellent .....

si le but était de faire le grand bill baroud de l'exxellent manu larcenet je ne peut que m'incliner devant une telle réussite. :bounce:

Toxic Frog
12 December 2002, 10:54 PM
Very very nice! Excellent skin material and lots of character!
The smiling picture makes me think of Popeye the Sailor Man!

12 December 2002, 11:48 PM
I like the imperfection.

12 December 2002, 12:11 AM
Beautiful, inspiring work.

Five stars, also...

12 December 2002, 03:38 AM
That seems to be an extreemly dense mesh, Am i wrong to assume that it is a 3d scan, or possibly just max nurbs converted to E.Mesh?

12 December 2002, 04:32 AM
Really great man, I love your work, natural style. Keep post more.

i dont know about the pants bit, but >Welcome to the boards, Susanne!<

12 December 2002, 06:36 AM
I think the reason the mesh looks so dense is because it's triangulated, we're used to seeing quads.

12 December 2002, 07:03 AM
awesome work man!!
the asymetric is perfect!!!

12 December 2002, 07:43 AM
1) You are my new god heh:bowdown:
2) You really managed to capture the character of him. Almost like he has a story to tell.

Really great work!:xtreme:

12 December 2002, 11:09 AM
The *only* thing I really think should change is the hair color, especially the roots... but the lighting and character you give this "character" is very well done

You have recieved the CGtalk choice award. Please feel free to display this image anywhere you like! Well done, keep it up!

upon recieving this award, it gurantees you a spot in the cgtalk gallery hall of fame - well it becomes available

P.S. if you need a different background, please send me a PM with the RGB values.

12 December 2002, 11:32 AM
The skin texture is great, in fact it's some of the best I've seen, I guess also the render engine helped a little. Brazil is a pretty good render engine if you ask me.

I have two "crits". The paper on the cigar needs more "crunched" paper texture, I think it's too smooth. Also I think the old man's eyes look too young, maybe add some wrinkles around the eyes.

Very good. Very good indeed. The man has got "soul".

12 December 2002, 12:48 PM
thank you all.
i can't answer to all of you, because of my bad english...

NVCC-Remote: yes ;)

toma : how do you know my first name ??

strick9: you have right with the ear, must work on it

el patator : bill baroud will save the world !!

01 January 2003, 04:10 AM
What happened to his joint in the second picture? lol. love it man just love it. im going to begin my first project this weeked(an eyeball from a book im learning with) but i probly wont be as good as you for several more years. keep it up dude.

01 January 2003, 04:30 PM
very realist but there is as same something which disturbs me,the glance it lack can be something.but it is a detail and it is a very beautiful work

01 January 2003, 02:27 PM
sympa le perso....etrange mais je sens un petit fond d'inspiration de chez monsieru larcenet , jme trompe?

01 January 2003, 02:37 PM
First of all id like to say its a great model.

crits tho, I agree with the people on the hair, but what really surprised me is only one other person thinks that the joint needs to be re textured and thats erikals. I just think it looks to CG compared to the rest of the pictures.

Other then that great work.

01 January 2003, 04:20 PM
really impressive , maybe the forehead a bit small

beau boulot en tout cas

01 January 2003, 04:31 PM
impressive and inspirational

I have a question about hair: is it modelled as a part of the head's mesh and textured or made with some hair-plugin ?

01 January 2003, 04:57 PM
Genial! On dirait Gabin surtout dans la premiere photo.

translation: kicks ass, first pic looks like a famous (dead) french actor

01 January 2003, 05:07 PM
Zaki, quand je vois la qualité de ton dernier modè pleure de jalousie.. bo boulot ! im sure you ll find a job soon.

Zisland, i think he do what ill do with such thing in my mouth :)
good luck for your work.

napino : non :) tu fais quoi comme études a Rennes ?
jy suis tres souvent..

Microbe : tas dbeaux yeux, tu sais ))

yes yes, for the hair, its a bad bad mesh.)
i found a new solution for my next image. i discovered that in brazil 1.0, there is an option of hair shadow in the light param..
you make hair with shag hair ( dont convert them into mesh ) then, make a brazil material and afect it to the the hair.
use ONLY a brazil spot light ...and you have a wonderfull radiosity hair with shadow. ill post a pict in 4 houres.

thank you :)

01 January 2003, 05:18 PM
Geat job.
Both realistic and "free".
Cool rendering, and a plenty of stars.
Waiting for the next pict then...

et une boite de Guronsan® pour le p'tit gars, une!

01 January 2003, 07:53 PM
here is the hair with shaghair (no mesh )and brazil 1.0
take less than 3 minutes on a p4 1,4ghz.

08 August 2003, 12:21 PM
Excellent modeling and texturing, all set in a great light!

08 August 2003, 04:15 PM
not my bag but nice all the same. good work man

09 September 2004, 07:16 AM
really good modeling and texture work. Nice job.

the cigarette though doesn't look right. Doesn't look like it's really in his mouth. Just kind floats there.
