I have been watching the Hyper Real rigging DVD, and i was wondering why he sets the rotation order to XZY. anyonw care to clue me in?

XZY gives you more freedom for your controllers when working with more complex movements.

If you set your rotation tool to Gimbal mode you'll notice that if you rotate around using the XZY vector solution, you're less likely to run into gimbal lock when trying to achieve poses (i.e. pivot a character 90 degrees forward, pivot him 90 degrees sideways and now try to rotate him side to side.. XYZ leaves you totally knackered and stuck there).

Though XZY isn't the be all, end all of solutions to avoid gimbal locking as best as possible... sometimes you just need to experiment and work with the animators to come up with a solution that works best.
