Have fun
We will try to post one of these topics once a day for your enjoyment.

These are the rules:
* Post only your FINAL piece on this thread, based on the topic on the thread.
* RESOLUTION : The image can have any aspect ratio up to 800 x 600
* They can be done on any medium.
* If you wish, you can add a brief text description about your piece.
* Only original compositions. No "tributes" or plagiarizing, unless is it an integral part of the challenge.
* The topics will be posted every day between 10:00 - 12:00 am US EST.
* The artist also has to post total length of time it took (Thanks Clanger for the idea) and program used.
* Only final pieces can be posted on the thread. They must have been done AFTER the topic has been announced.
* Any piece caught breaking the rules will be taken off the thread.
* The topics will be picked at random from the list on this thread
(The author will be given credit). So guys keep them coming.
*You can add multiple entries, but please dont post WIP (Unless you intend to update them). NEW RULE!
*ANOTHER thread to quantify and track WHO has participated the most on these threads.

Good luck

This is my first post to the daily sketch forum, or any forum at CGtalk for that matter. I've always thought sketching here would be really cool, and now I finally have some time to do it! Okay, here's my attempt.
About 1.5 hours in Photoshop

01 January 2006, 06:25 PM
nice enviorments !! Okay since so many of you cgdaily sketchers are so darn good at doing backrounds with pretty trees and leaves with depth and atmosphre... I DEMAND A TUTORIAL!! :D:D Lol, no but seriously... if you guys could share your steps to creating backrounds, trees and to give it depth and texture I would love you guys even more than I already do. :D

How else is better to learn than from the masters?

01 January 2006, 06:40 PM
hi all!..

Brutal Monk:your beutiful orangy colors had inspired me, thx

GSmiley:wow, what breezy gestures you have painted, very nice!

InesD: when will you finish you homepage? im very curious about it

here is my piece: i was more faster than with the other took only 40-60 seconds. there are no squirrels, sorry, i was just too lazy to paint them. (

01 January 2006, 07:50 PM
wow these are cool!!

GSmiley: your first post here is awesome! I really love it, nice work!
Miss Bogey: hah, bears rlz! LOL i love its face so cute :D great job on the details!

InesD: heey, just think about the rules of the perpective, the further you look the whiter tunes you will get i mean the further things have more pastel color look, aaaannnd the futher thins are lighter too :D thats aaalll.
seriusly. I watched a lot of tutorial videos, and the Goro's tuts are awesome for this problem, you can learn a lot from them! But ask the great ones! Im just a newbie

01 January 2006, 07:56 PM
Wow. I was really expecting crazy pumpkins, sincce there are none as of yet I guess I'll have to do it. And I agree with InesD...I would love to see a tutorial on trees. GSmiley welcome, nice post.

01 January 2006, 08:02 PM
Here is mine ^^ I think I should start doing bookmarks instead of a calendar XD they are getting thinner and thinner lol
Photoshop CS ~30mn

I'll post comments on other people's pic later I'm a bit in a hurry right now, sorry :)

01 January 2006, 08:37 PM
Nice work so far everyone
Brutal Monk: Your colors are beautiful and very simple.
GSmiley: Once again beautiful colors
Miss Bogey: Your bears keep coming back as great as ever
aelwine: Beautiful piece. I can almost feel the wind.

I thought more of a cloudy october night. This took about an hour in ps.

Hello people

Late January start for me - but finally back in a mode where i should hopefully get a few DSG's in every week :)
Kinda landed in the middle of this Calendar thing, but I thought i would get one in at least:

30 min PS + Wacom (and a lot of help from Goro's brushes :D )

01 January 2006, 12:59 AM
So I had to make a pumpkin, I know this is terrible and all, but oh well. Used pen, paper, Artrage, and mouse. took total of about 45 minutes.

01 January 2006, 01:15 AM
as promised :)

Brutal Monk : Great it almost looks like cut paper art, and i like the mood a lot
GSmiley : nice colors, and the minimalism (sp?) about your trees is nice, great pic !
Miss Bogey : nice earthy colors and he looks so hapy ! ^^
The_13 : Thanks ^^ I like the way you have made the silhouette of the tree detach itself from the moon, it's looking great
Overchord : nice trees, your compo could have probably been a bit more dynamic with the horizon a bit lower, not matching with the lower line of the trees' foliage, in order to have a bit of a negative space
Wiggin : Hey ! a Pumpkin ! I was expecting more of them too, nice of you to follow the tradition ^^

01 January 2006, 03:00 AM
Was going to be a nightime scene, screwing around with brushes and filter. Turned out as pumpkin kinda. Enjoy the Pumpkin Kinda! Photoshop 45min

01 January 2006, 03:21 AM
MissBoey Hello.. you drew that in less that a whole minute *faints*... that is insane! Great job.. it would probably take me a whole week of sweat and tears to produce what you created in less than a minute..
As for my homepage I am working on it, I am having trouble uploading video to show of my animations.. yahoo webhosting only lets me upload 5mb at a time and I can only compress my animations to 14mb.. my friend is going to help me out with this silly problem and then it should all be working great. I will make sure to post when its ready for viewing.. thanks for asking :D
Brutal Monk Thanks for the advice, I will definetly have to check out master Goro tutorial and see if I can learn something from him. I will keep those perspecitve rules in mind.
Zyrinx I know right? I am always nagging people for tuts.. maybe someday I can make them break down and make us one :D your pumpkin is freaky.
aelwine Beautiful and simple, Hey a collection of bookmarks for each month doesnt sound like a bad idea.. it would be a easy way to keep track of how much one is reading.
The_13 Nice change of mood by making it a cold october night. I dig the idea.
Overchord Nice trees. A few DSG a week sounds like a doable thing.. I opted for one every day and it gets a little hard at times to squeeze on in.. :argh: but I need the practice.
wiggin Yey the first pumking of the month! He looks scary.. like he is ready to eat you.

Well to keep with the resolution I better get to skething some pumpkins of my own. brb.

Halloween.. making embarrasing costumes since the 5th century BC .. or 1840"
1 hr, photoshop CS2 :D ... used a reference.. of one embarrasing picture..

Miss Boey Hey at one hour that is still impressive.. 60 seconds would have been superhuman.
Thany Dear god, that is fantastic..... I think you would be very suitable to do a WIP show us your steps to creating the image.. how you created your trees, depth etc etc. If you dont mind spending a little time describing your process I am many more would appreciate it. :D Great piece.

01 January 2006, 09:58 PM
hey Her0d - love the texture on that tree good work man!
Thanks :) The tree texture is done only with the heavily tweaked round hard-edged brush. I am still discovering the endless possibilities of Photoshop's brush customization engine - and it is so much fun :)

01 January 2006, 07:06 PM
Nice sketches everyone! I spent a little more time then usual on this.

As I saw lots of halloween stuffs, I decided to illustrate those good old stories of a ghost haunting a cold pond.

Too much time, 2h45. in fact, I did it twice.(need to sleep)
