01 January 2006, 03:26 PM
Heya shyam, :)

Some really beautiful work ~ whether or not it's 'finished' is up to you ~ :) it depends on what you are after, and what the piece is for. If it's a personal piece, then you can more or less call it finished whenever you'd like ~ but if it's a professional piece, you may want to render it a bit further, as the body seems a bit roughed in at the moment.

Solid work ~ it would be great to see you do more renderings! :)

Cheers, :)

01 January 2006, 08:50 PM
Beautiful! Lovely work :)

It's great to see some familiar faces in this forum...
Looking foward to see more of your fantastic work.

01 January 2006, 11:43 PM
Shyam...Great thread so far...good to see your WIP'S...

Here expression in the photo, has a happy, pleased, almost seductive smile..expression..
Your last version has an almost serious...contemplatetive expression.
Maybe something to do with her lips....just thought I would mention it, sounded like
you were trying for total photo accuracy ...but at the same time, it looks great the way
it is also...just depends on what your goal is...expression wise.
Look forward to seeing more of your work..:applause:

Tack Care

08 August 2006, 09:50 AM
Hi shyam,
I'm interested in your painter works. What kind of brush are you using to simulate pencil and charcoal?
And are you adding some texture to the canvas?

Great stuff! I'll be trying to so do something similar but I'm not able with painter...

08 August 2006, 11:04 AM
razz : yea u r right..i need more holidays :D

ytresu : I'm also new to Painter 9...there is still a lost to explore...but i can tell u which tools im using...btw i like to keep the layer mode to GEL sometimes..

if u want to know more..feel free to ask..will try to help u :)

here are the settings and tools im using for pencil effect..i use FELT PEN for detailng ..otherwise u ve to remove the texture of the canvas..

Hope this helps.

08 August 2006, 11:48 AM

Like the effect your getting with the felt pen...really like the mystery and mood of the drawing in frame # 50.....
Have you tried the colored spot lights found in effects...under surface control....apply lighting....they might look great with your drawings....easy and quick to use...really add atmosphere...:)
Examples of the effects of colored spotlights....first page of my anatomy thread.
Was just reading that you were new to painter, so thought I would mention those spotlights, in
case you hadn't discovered them yet..:)
Really enjoying your thread....BEAUTIFUL WORK...

08 August 2006, 01:00 PM
very nice clean lines! I like the last with the birdmask: nice pose, nice hands!
nice sketchbook, keep posting! I'm enjoying it a lot! :bounce:

08 August 2006, 02:19 PM
Holy mother of whoever! Your skills are amazing man. Beautiful woman and sketch man. awesome.

I always have the problem that my hand is shaking like hell when drawing on the computer. seems like you don't have that problem at all. is it practice or what?

Any possibility to make a video tutorial on one sketch? it would be awesome for us newbs out there.

08 August 2006, 09:23 PM
SpiritDreamer : Thanx ! yea i do know about that spot light feature...never spent much time on that..will surely try that soon! Thanx for the reminder ;)

Cyanid : Thanx mate...ur few sketches at Sketchathon are very nice :) keep posting !

michael-olszak : Well..Thanx a tonne for ur kind words mate. As u said..u've problem while drawing with my suggestion is..just assume that u r drawing with pencil while u r working with tablet...i do the same...simple trick isnt it? ;) and about Video tut. honestly speaking, its not a right time to do such things at this moment..maybe after couple of years...the reason is..i dont want to misguide anyone...anyways thanx for asking :)

Its 2.45 am. im still not able to sleep :p

One of my friend told me that im weak in acting, so..I'm trying to improve it, i tried to show the same sequence in different ways...maybe i'll draw more, maybe not...feel free to share ur valuable thoughts on this

08 August 2006, 10:28 PM
Hey man, great updates! As everyone else already mentioned,i really like your line quality and the fluid motion of it...
About your last post,i think the first one works better for me...maybe the other ones are a bit too dramatic.
Keep up the great work!

08 August 2006, 10:52 PM
Hey Shyam,

really, I am just glad you are back and I hope you will find time to post some stuff even when you're working, because I just love your style and the confidence in your lines and take your look as one of my guidelines to quality work...

08 August 2006, 12:02 AM
Hi there Shyam :)

glad to have popped in to see your great thread :) will be back to see more

take care
a. :)

08 August 2006, 03:44 PM
Shyam, theres one thing I read here but I did not fully understand- you mentioned that you are drawing some things from photographs. Do you mean all the life drawing posted here has been done from photographs? Or just some of them -like the Rani Mukherjee portrait?

08 August 2006, 07:27 PM
Polonoid : Thanx still working on those gestures..will post more soon.

Mu : Thanx for the kindeness Mr. Mu :)

Frejasphere : Thanx buddy, glad u liked this thread.

Amit_S : Dude..i mentioned everything in my thread..u just have to read carefully :wise: anyways..thanx for stopping by.

Quick head study from ref.

08 August 2006, 07:51 PM
Real nice. Quality like this sometimes makes me envious of those that do their work on a wacpn on the computer. I do have the software, but not enough power to use it at its best. But then again, I think I appreciate my art more when its been done with natural materials, as I can show off with it and its 'ORIGINAL', which makes it that much more unique. Like I say, digital work looks fantastic, but I guess, because I cannot really go through that route yet, I find excuses in not to do it.

I can really feel the confidence behind the person doing these images. Try not to show the original photograph, its best to make vewers think your image is perfect, if its not, they will see it anyway (especially the trained ones of us).

08 August 2006, 11:15 PM
Hi...Shyamshriiram.... ......That last one....GREAT DRAWING....BEAUTIFUL TECHNIQUE..:applause:

08 August 2006, 03:04 AM
The last sketch is a fantastic piece! It is a beauty!:)!Bravo Shyam! I wonder what your thread will look like in a couple of years! what new levels you will take your art to!:)

08 August 2006, 09:45 PM
Fl3wk : Thanx for the appriciation..about digital and tradtional meadias..well i'd like to say only one thing..Tool does not matters. Now its upto u..use whatever tool u like :) and about this head..i didnt try to draw the exact likeness..i was just doing head study :wise:

SpiritDreamer : Thanx a lot :)

Thomasphoenix : Thanx..lets hope for the best :scream:

Now update....few figures without ref. i m trying to show the various personalities with various attitudes..C&C are always welcome

08 August 2006, 07:22 AM
I like the first and the last one best, but they are all great. Only the first and the last one seem to have an interesting story or something :) Now again as I steped into your thread, I will be going to draw.

09 September 2006, 05:57 PM
Thanx razz :)

Latest !!

09 September 2006, 06:11 PM

That first picture is hilarious - you have to develop that into a render. :D I'm sorry, I think I lol'd...

It's always good to see your work on the boards. I'd still love to see you do more finished renders. :)

09 September 2006, 09:31 PM

Very very awesome man. Your drawings rock !!
I just love how simple your sketches look. cool stuff man

09 September 2006, 04:05 PM
Wonderful thread going on here. I like the way you capture the expression of the characters.

09 September 2006, 11:38 AM
Hey Shyam :)

Great colour form and movement in these last paintings  Interesting concepts too, I like the way the fields of colour layered with line-work gives speed and simplicity to them - and brings out the atmosphere :)

cheers and take care
a. :)

09 September 2006, 05:03 AM

10 October 2006, 07:44 PM
Thanx Glenn, glad u noticed my efforts :D

Latest sketch

10 October 2006, 09:27 PM

Hiya shyam, I think these 2 have the most potential and would like to see you develop them further. What were the ideas behind these? :)

10 October 2006, 07:07 AM
Thanx Rebecca, glad u think those pieces has potetial :D

im not sure about the first one right now..but im definitely going to work on the second sketch...i also want to see it as a finished (so called :P) piece.
about the idea behind those...frankly speaking there was absoultely no idea at the beginning...i was just doodling around..first i started that guy with swords..then i did the other guys and the mountains..same case with the second one..i started that creature first..then the boy..& then girl...and then suddenly she started crying :P LOL ...i think thats a NIGHTMARE of that little girl :D she and her brother was wondering in the deep forest...suddenly they encounter a huge creature in their way..and she started crying..and her brother is pretending that he can handle the situation :P and trying to fight with that creature..but the fact is..that creature is harmless..and actually loves kids :) (lol what a story :scream: )

yea i know sounds pretty pathetic..i should plan the whole scene before doodling...but who pretty happy with the idea...:scream: Lets see when i can finish this.

alright..for the time being..a sketch in ps..just noticed..hes looking bit short :/

10 October 2006, 12:03 PM
Just started this one.. many unfinished works :/

10 October 2006, 01:24 PM
:scream: HEY...Shyam....:) LOL.....Speed is good for alot of things, but producing finished works is not one of them..:scream:

Couldn't help myself on that one...SORRY...LOL..:scream: :)

10 October 2006, 01:31 PM
hey shyam!

great sketches. that woman with the scary breasts is really cool.
when i get home, i'll study the way you build up characters some more. looks great.

10 October 2006, 06:33 PM
And another highly inspirational bunch of speedpaints! Great to see you back. Love what you've done here. I like the butcher kind of guy with the robot face. So calmly looking at me. Nice! I agree with Rebecca about those two pieces having the most potential and I too would love to see them finished (so called :D).

On holyday again? Haha.

Oh, and what a title it would be "the woman with thef scary breasts".

10 October 2006, 06:59 PM
:scream: HEY...Shyam....:) LOL.....Speed is good for alot of things, but producing finished works is not one of them..:scream:

LOL need to say ...seems like we both have same thought process :scream: thats what i was thinking.
maybe im hiding the fact that i dont have patience to render my paintings...
Oh well...whatever...but im learning many things from these speedpaints..but..i will try to finish ( as in render :p) few of them :scream:

abyss103 : Thanx buddy!

razz : Thanx razz ...after a long time..and as a matter of fact..i was on did u know that?? but today was the last day :/. will post my work anyway...and about that girl with evil boobs..i would love to call her.."Love machine" why ? i've some logic behind that title...:wise:

and a small update (i hope im not spoiling the sketch more)...yes i process is kind of fact..i dont have any regular process :/ man..why im talking too much ?

10 October 2006, 09:58 PM
Just saw Stanley Kubrick's "The Shining"...Man..what a movie !!! lots of blood *slurp slurp* lol couldnt resist myself from this one...its 3 am here...:p

10 October 2006, 08:19 AM
Hi Shyam..
I didnt see the movie, but read the novel... it was so scary, I decided not to watch the movie!! Great painting, though. You have got the drama in there! I read "Dream Catcher" by same author, Stephen King.. it was scarier than "Shining"! They made a movie out of that one too.. Watch it... will give you lots of ideas!!!:)

10 October 2006, 06:46 PM
Thanx Anand..yea the movie was scary..but u should see that..great cinematography, great direction..Jack Nicholsan's acting is supercool..will see the "Dreamcatcher" very soon.. lets talk about painting :p

10 October 2006, 09:58 PM
Hey shyam, Your sense of atmosphere is fantastic! Great work. I wish I was that creative. Great work and keep posting.

10 October 2006, 10:40 PM
Hiya again Shyam! :)

It's great to pop back and go through your thread of latest works, I seem to do it smiling :). Really like the way you explore ideas and there is no way I would call the story with the creature, girl and boy pathetic - it's great! and it's just the way ideas evolve; an idea pops up, leads to something else - which leads to something else and so on:) It's pretty cool the way the little girl appears..... and THEN she starts crying :D - think I would too, if I suddenly appeared somewhere... to be faced with THAT!! (obviously not knowing that IT really just would like to hang out and play....)

Also like your other characters, Home sweet home, lady in the red dress with the moon, the "SHINING" inspired one and the last one are my favourites :) with the last guy, it's like he's not quite sure how intimidating he should look, I think it's the way he's head is a little down and the look in his eyes: that he's sort of looking for approval :) I don't know if that's how you intended him, but I like it! and good luck with the other views

take care

10 October 2006, 04:31 PM
awesome stuff, as always shyamshriram!!! :bounce:

10 October 2006, 04:42 PM
Hello, Shyam.

You do such wonderful characters. I love the breadth and scope of what you do as well. Of your latest, I really love the character in lavendar. I also dig the one for the activity. I have done turns in the past. They can be fun, they can be difficult, but they really make you see your character fully.

Good luck,

Hey Shyam!!! Great to see you back, buddy!! :bounce: :bounce:
Awesome start on the portrait!

02 February 2009, 04:09 PM
Shyam! I have been soo wondering if I'd ever see a drawing or a painting by you again!

This looks gorgeous! Her eyes, the highlight on the nose tip and the curve of the neck are really beautiful.

Maybe you should add a slightly darker value between the parted lips? Also, her left nostril (the viewer's right one) seems to be a bit higher than the other one.

Hope we'll see more of you again!

Hi Shyam!!

How are you? This one is looking pretty beautiful. I always love and respect traditional mediums. Keep posting more and more, we want to see your artworks regularly.

02 February 2009, 07:09 PM
Hey Shyam, my bribe worked! :D Heh, nice to see you back again. :) Lovely acrylic piece, man acrylics are hard.

02 February 2009, 08:35 PM
Damn, I hate acrylics, I really do. The ref would be nice to see. I like the hair the way it is here, quite dynamic. You could pick some other color for monochromatic paintings just to make it more fun for yourself. Like HERE (
Where have you been all this time?! No holidays, mm?

02 February 2009, 01:32 PM
Hey Shyam! Nice acrylic work man, that monochrome portrait is looking pretty cool... but be careful about acrylic media.

I am just telling about acrilyc colour patch, brush strokes. Its easy to make patches from oil colour media, but acrlyic is too hard when u apply the color on canvas. How u maintain the patches. Hey, had u done any acricliyc work before?

02 February 2009, 01:58 PM
Shyam, it's by Bob Kato ( :)

Great to see you back again :)
I love the monochromatic approach, and believe if you just keep
experimenting and pushing things, you'll keep the expression and
the flow - you have so much talent & your work screams wow! :) :)
Don't be scared to push traditional mediums - I know there isn't a Ctrl Z :D so sometimes
you just need to take things to the point beyond destruction - it gives you
freedom (& rules can be broken) & also allows you to find new ways &
to feel when a painting is 'telling you' where to put the next mark.

Sorry about the waffle Shyam... disregard anything that sounds like gobblegook ;)

take care and keep posting!

a. :)
