Merry Christmas from CG Academy!!

Greetings, it's Christmas time again and we will all hopefully have some time to spend with our families and have some well earned rest. We have a special promotion going over the festive period, skip to the bottom of this post to learn the details. But first some news on the recent developments at CG Academy.

New DVD Release More good news, we have the release of a new DVD by Dominic Qwek on UVW unwrapping a complex creature mesh. Advanced Texturing 1 ( Creature UV Unwrapping ( gives an in-depth workflow in 3dsmax 7.0 and 8.0 on how to unwrap the creature Dominic Created in his Advanced Modelling DVD ( . (

The new DVD shows the best workflow and practices using the 7.0 unwrap tool in the first half of the DVD, and then in the second half of the DVD he moves on to show how the new tools introduced in 3dsmax 8.0 can be used to enhance and push that workflow forward to achieve high quality unwrapped UV's in an even shorter timeframe. This DVD is a must buy for those who want/need to learn UV unwrapping skills on creature/character meshes, or who want to learn how to make the best of the new 3dsmax 8.0 tools in this area.

More new DVDs coming soon
And for those that have been waiting for some of our other DVD projects to come to fruition, even more good news. Paul Neale is in the recording studio for the 4 th DVD in his smash hit Intermediate Rigging series ( This DVD has been VERY much anticipated by pretty much all of our customers. This one is shaping up to be a real sparkler (cant wait to see it myself..), so keep an eye out for its launch in the very near future.

Also Bobo (Borislav Petrov of Frantic Film) ( tells me that his new DVD called “Enter The Matrix ” will be going into recording over the Christmas period. This DVD is going to be an essential buy for any budding and indeed pro TD that needs to take their scripting and math skills to a new level. This DVD deals with all aspects of “3D math” i.e. trigonometry, vectors and matrix math on a practical level within 3dsmax.

Think it sounds as dry as a bowl of muesli sprinkled with chalk dust? Well, it wont be, for anyone out there that wishes to take full control of their particles in Particle Flow, or to be able to work with any object in 3D space inside 3dsmax or indeed any other 3D app, this is going to be the DVD to take you through that gateway to a new level of power. We'll keep you posted on the developments with these DVDs, more news soon.

Christmas Holidays Prize Draw!!
To help celebrate the holiday season CG Academy is holding a prize draw for any orders of 3 or more DVDs received from now (16 th December) until the 1st of January 2006. We will put any orders (of 3 or more DVDs) received during that period into a hat and draw out two prize winners early in the new year.

The first prize winner will receive one free DVD for each DVD they ordered, and they can choose which titles they will receive. So, if the winner ordered 8 DVDs, they will receive another 8 of their choice for free!! The second prize winner will receive 1 free DVD for every 2 DVDs that they ordered. So if you win the runner up prize after ordering 3 DVDs you'd get 1 more for free, if you ordered 6, you'd get 3 more for free. Is that all clear, good!

Ok, the closing date as I said is midnight on the last day of this year (GMT time). So, get your orders in now and hopefully you will receive a pleasant bonus if you are one of the lucky pair in the new year. The names of the prize winners will be posted on the CG Academy news page once they have been drawn.

Have a great holiday whatever creed you are from, and we'll update you with more news as and when it happens.
