Hi everybody, i got some problens when i started to study the normal map technology, i just donīt know what program i need to do a normal map... i tryed the Melody (from Nvidea, and i cant get any good result, i just got 70% of the map and lots of leaks...), then i tryed the Ati normal map creator, and just cant create that damn NMF, because i didnt found any exporter for 3ds8... so... what do you recomend? what program to use? tech? i just cant do it....

im using Maya 7, it has a surface sampler to bake texture maps to generate normal maps, i also heard there is baking maps in 3dmax and lightwave but i dont know the proceedure of it,..

Your using 3ds max 8 right, if so you have the best normalmap tool in max, render to texture tool.

hit my website, Doom 3 tutorial section has a vid or two on NormalMaps from Max. Procedure gets tweaked as you learn more, but that will get you started. Ben Mathis' info in indispensible, as well.
