View Full Version : Book cover

I'm working on a book cover where a pale and tired 12-year-old girl is attacked by a shadow creature (which you can see reflected in her eyes - her bright green eyes are supposed to be the main focus of the image). I need criticism. How can I improve the image?

the green eyes are definatetly the focus, i like what youve done there a lot. however you say where a pale and tired well she doesnt look very tired to me. i think its mainly because of the extreme nature of the eyes... the only thing i could suggest that doesnt involve changing the eyes some, is to enhance the bags under her eyes. also i would think that a a pale and tired 12-year-old girl being attacked by a shadow creature would be at least a little scared, i can't see this reflected in the painting. then again i might be wrong and this is the type of pale and tired 12-year-old girl who isnt scared by shadow monsters. lastly i think you need to do some more work on the hair, as is it i think it looks quite flat and lifeless... it wouldnt take much to breathe some life into the hair. have a look at this and see if it helps you some.
keep up the good work and i hope to see some updates soon!

I hope you dont mind... it's looking good and I had free time.. so I took liberal and played around with it to add some focus to the eyes... and make it look more creepy somehow. The eyes aren't right though... u might want to fix that. I fixed face anatomy a bit... but don't mind me... I still am not good at anatomy like other people do. I'm hoping you see what I mean by that lighting can affect the focus/composition big time. :)
I hope it was helpful. :)

Here are two new versions. Which one looks better? How old does the girl look now?

(BTW, the girl is supposed to look more determined/angry than scared.)
