11 November 2005, 05:26 AM
The heck...

Looks like Charlie's Angels meats Kill Bill with a little Crouching Tiger thrown in.

11 November 2005, 05:34 AM
Thats straight to video...right?

11 November 2005, 05:40 AM

11 November 2005, 05:50 AM
Oh... my... god... DOA!!! What have they done to you?
It even seems to have Holly Valance in it, which is even more wrong....

11 November 2005, 06:02 AM
God that looks terrible. I feel bad for the fans of the games.

11 November 2005, 06:06 AM
its more like Dead On Arrival to me....

11 November 2005, 06:48 AM
It even seems to have Holly Valance in it, which is even more wrong....

Good heavens....Holly Vallance. She really must be trying to become the next Kylie. Neighbours > Singing > Martial Arts movie.

Though I must say I'm happier to see her in this movie (constantly changing accent and all) than as the replacement of Sarah Michelle Gellar as Buffy...which her agent was happy to not deny when those rumours were around.

11 November 2005, 08:50 AM
Noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo :surprised

11 November 2005, 09:03 AM
WAHAHAA I laughted so hard, I love watching this kind of films with friends.

11 November 2005, 09:15 AM
The eye candy was nice... but geez.. a very poor presentation of the franchise.

11 November 2005, 05:12 PM
dude they even threw the beach volley ball in there. and why the hell do they all have katanas.

oh and btw anyone who thought this was gonna be a legit movie, shoulda realised when they cast effing caine kosugi as the "greatest ninja of all time" ryu hayabusa (of ninja gaiden fame)

caine kosugi is the son of the 80s ninja movie star sho kosugi, you might remember him from some greats as revenge of the ninja and revenge of the ninja II, pray for death is one of my favorites.

so anyways, jokes on us

11 November 2005, 06:06 PM
Pile of shit. The characters do not even come close to ones the game, nor the story hello the girls are enemies in the game at least most of them are. But the worst is the physics engine it is so lame compared to the game as is the camera direction. My first thought was UWE BOLL did it again but I was surprised to see a good HK movie director as director. What a shame there goes his career.

11 November 2005, 06:43 PM
I love Sho Kosugi! How could anyone hate Revenge of the Ninja? It's just so... Ninjastic!

11 November 2005, 06:59 PM
ACK! couldnt even watch past 10 seconds.

11 November 2005, 07:06 PM
ill wait until my roomates' cousin's half-brother's uncles' next door neighbor's son-in-law's girlfriends' little brother buy it on dvd then throw it out the trash so i can sneak when the're a sleep and take it from their trash.... then ebay it....
ill probably watch it when it comes on hbo tho...

11 November 2005, 04:41 AM
I'm going to practice throwing my underwear in the air and catching them with my legs...

11 November 2005, 04:46 AM
I think I would go and see 2 hours of someone playing the GAME rather than see this.

11 November 2005, 07:13 AM
I shed tears of blood for Tecmo and their legion of fans. I'm hoping this trailer is a highly biased one that showed the absolute silliest parts of the film, while the rest of the film actually contains some form of depth.

Who the hell am I kidding?! TEARS OF BLOOD GUSHING FORTH!

11 November 2005, 07:09 AM
the word ninjastic is enough for me lol

sho kosugi movies have thier use

i get enough laughs from them that i dont have to own any real comedy movies.

but seriously could we have picked a more serious actor to play ryu hayabusa lol well come to think of it after seeing that trailer i think i'll just let caine kosugi act in that movie, couldn't make it any worse

im gonna go cry now.

Oh my.... I'm trying to think of a bad film to compare this too, but I can't think of another that makes me as angry and sick at the same time. I guess this is going to be yet another film that takes a computer game franchise and instantly turns it to dust. I hold my hands up and admit to being a DOA fan boy, but I couldn't even tell who all the characters in the trailer were meant to be. Holly Valance is Christie? Are we sure about this one?

You know you're on a loser when you're making a martial arts film and the best martial artist in your film is Eric Roberts.

11 November 2005, 10:52 AM
Every industry needs it's daikatana.

But seriously... why for the love of god did they make it so bad...
Do they hate doa or so? WHAT HAS DOA EVER DONE TO YOU?
It's not the game's fault you have a bad life, really, stop picking on it.

Maybe if we pretend it's coyote ugly 2: the combat beach edition...

11 November 2005, 11:55 AM
why doesnt the link work when i click it? you guys all seem to be doing fine... And i just looked at all the titles on the trailers page and found nothing to do with DOA...

little help learned friends?

11 November 2005, 11:58 AM
Didn't work for me either, but found it here :

ummmm "enjoy"? ;)

11 November 2005, 12:39 PM
cheers drag-on

what the.....

im just such a sucker for anything to do with samurai's. (i know i should have said something else there). But the style and choreography of the fights looks pretty cool... wouldnt mind seeng them...

but damn. That film looks weak. why does everyone always have to sell out to the lowest common denominator. It looks very seperate from the game. I would have made it different if i had the oppo. (wishing on a star) More focus on atmosphere, honour, and a more srious storyline seems like the order of the day.

Am I the only one that thinks this just looks like Charlie's Angels Part 3?
Maybe the gaming world will get lucky and Takashi Miike will force them to change the name?

11 November 2005, 12:54 PM
the problem cgtalkiest, is that if you've played the game, it had NOTHING to do with samurai.

making the fact that they ALL have samurai swords in the beginning of the trailer, confusing and well just plain f@#king stupid.

i dunno if they are gonna follow the games storyline, which was pretty cool but it doesn't look like it, judging from the fact that they had a few girls fighing along side each other that were enemies in game, but if i had a chance to direct it , that would be the first thing i fixed, that and i would be taking out the beach volleyball part, i mean...dude...come on!

did i mention HAHAHA?

11 November 2005, 08:43 PM
I can be considered Paul Anderson's Champion here on CGTALK( I'm assuming he is the director, here... ) , but I really think he's leaping into Amnity bay with meat bags attatched to his body... :curious:

This is stupid. DOA has no story whatsoever - whats the point? :wip:

white dragon
11 November 2005, 09:02 PM
Wheather or not you think DOA has much of a story is one thing (I'm not going to try and argue that it does!) but it certainly has strong characters, so why have they messed with them? It's an excellent hand-to-hand fighting game, and while it's got its artistic license, most of the moves and fighting styles are grounded in reality. Why then give them swords?!? Tina with a sword? Not saying it couldn't happen, but she's a wrestler for crying out loud!

I was really hoping for an explosive hand-to-hand martial arts film, something along the lines of Donnie Yen, or Tony Jaa? I guess it's good the 4th game will be out before the film as I think this is realllllly going to put me off the series :(

11 November 2005, 09:34 PM
Re: White Dragon.

Str-Stro-St-Suuu--sooo-STRONG CHARACTERS?!?

This will be another Mortal Kombat - I bet next month's wages on it! :wise:

white dragon
11 November 2005, 09:41 PM
hahaha, ok not strong as in "rich back story" I'll give you that! I meant strong in regards to all being different and actually feeling different when you played them. This again was down to the good use of martial arts. And this again would make an excellent film. Imagine Ryu's ninja styles against Bass's wrestling, basically it's everything Bruce Lee could have wanted in Game of Death. Instead it looks like we end up with some generic fighting, with or without swords, which just destroys the one thing the film could have fallen back on. *shrugs*

11 November 2005, 09:45 PM
well doa did have a pretty cool plot involving ryu hayabusa, ein and hitomi, and this whole super soldier deal. and then the other characters served the story from thier perspectives.

it woulda made a good movie if it was done right, paul anderson is only producing, the martial arts choreographer cory directing....

but anderson did make avp we can see he's not out to make doa good....or anything..

11 November 2005, 11:06 PM
This could have been so cool....

But well I can't think of anything to say... I guess Uwe Boll has some competition now....

11 November 2005, 05:24 PM
Imagine the pitch meeting for this film:

"well, it's Charlie's Angels meets Kung Fu Hustle...only much lamer than Charlie's Angels!"

"Now that sounds fantastic for a xmas release...maybe this film can redeem the creatively bankrupt creative teams in Hollywood!"

11 November 2005, 07:56 PM
Re: Archerx.

Uwe Boll...hmmmm...maybe he is the guest director on this production? :D

11 November 2005, 08:15 PM
damn, i loved DOA 2, that is like my favorite game, i was certain that nothing could stop the DOA series, but... damn, they did it for sure. anyway the new soul calibur is way better. and plus XBOX 360 is gonna blow everthing out of the water. well whatever. i just t9'ed ( it to my coworkers, and they are gonna be more pissed than me, being in the games industry.

11 November 2005, 09:21 PM
i can't say i'm a fan of the games, seems like it's just a bunch of boobs and kicking, but is anybody surprised at this, from the makers of DOA, eXtreme beach volleyball?....this trailer looked like a joke until i thought of that, it's just staying true to the franchise, in my opinion.

white dragon
11 November 2005, 09:56 PM
DOA is just boobs and kicking, same way Final Fantasy is just big hair and swords.

11 November 2005, 11:54 PM

did i mention HAHAHA?

Quoted for agreement. Can it REALLY be so hard to make a video game movie? Except for the first 'Resident Evil' movie, there isn't a game-to-film that I'd rather see over 2 hours of a good game's cinematics or even watching a descent game be played!

Of course, I'm just slightly biased...

Here's hoping the Halo movie with a little help from Peter Jackson can stop this trend in it's tracks.

11 November 2005, 12:34 AM
I think it's always going to be hard for them to make a good film if they keep choosing games without much of a story. For example, you wouldn't make a film of something like Crazy Taxi, where's the plot in that?

oh no, wait.....

11 November 2005, 01:59 PM
For example, you wouldn't make a film of something like Crazy Taxi, where's the plot in that?

How about a film based on the plot of Katamari Damacy? Get Tim Burton to direct.

There is one hope for a good game to movie adaptation- Silent Hill. It's supposed to come out stateside in the spring, and supposedly Konami has had a very tight relationship with the production team. If I had to pick one game that could make a decent movie, Silent Hill would probably be at the top of the list, so here's hoping they don't screw up a great opportunity.

11 November 2005, 08:11 PM
If I could have just one wish - it would be to have the plug pulled on the forth-coming Metroid Movie.

Samus Aran is supposed to be Jane Fonda NOT Michelle Rodregiez! :wip:

I will lose the will to live if they piss over the Metroid franchise....

Actually just watched the Doom movie which I didn't think was too bad. It didn't have any of the claustrophobic atmosphere of the last game, but it also didn't have skeletons with rocket launchers, so it at least earns points for that.

11 November 2005, 07:51 PM
Re: White Dragon.

I'm looking forward to watching Doom on Friday night. Karl Urban is a dude!

11 November 2005, 08:04 PM
It's an odd film as it manages to feel very short as if there's always something happening, but at the same time, nothing really seems to happen. I'll be interested to see what you think. The chainsaw bit was fantastic though, that's the sort of thing I want to see in a proper "next generation" video game :D

11 November 2005, 08:10 PM
Re: White Dragon.

I'll be sure to pop my review in the DOOM thread...

11 November 2005, 09:06 PM
Good man :) Now where were we? Oh yeah, DOA..... eeesh!

11 November 2005, 09:28 PM
I second that eesh and raise you with a barf! I might watch it when it comes out on tv in Sweden... In 4 years or so.

12 December 2005, 06:29 PM
And who cares about Holly Vallance, anyways? WE WANT LUCY PINDER AND MICHELLE MARSH! :bounce:

Hell, I'm a modest man and would even settle for Lucy Lawless...

12 December 2005, 04:21 AM
I'll see it for the eye candy. That bra flying up in the air, and that camera angle is superb.

12 December 2005, 05:28 AM
OKay, that was purely crap to me...and I own all of the DOA games...

12 December 2005, 10:05 AM
I'll see it for the eye candy. That bra flying up in the air, and that camera angle is superb.

....your kidding right

12 December 2005, 09:23 PM
And who cares about Holly Vallance, anyways? WE WANT LUCY PINDER AND MICHELLE MARSH! :bounce:

Now THAT would be a real breast jiggler in the spirit of the games :) . On a side note, If they could do this to DOA, imagine what they'll do to Soul Calibur or, even more frightening, Tekken!!!

12 December 2005, 03:37 AM
I've seen better acting in a porn film...

12 December 2005, 03:42 AM
I would kick my own ass, if I wasted my money seeing this...

12 December 2005, 06:02 AM
I've seen better acting in a porn film... wasn't a porn....
