View Full Version : Need help with outdoor lighting rig

I am playing around with the 9.5 demo, exploring the new SKY plug-in and I have a few questions...

I have an outdoor architecture scene I'm trying to light. I'm just using one of the sky presets w/ area shadows, my scene looks ok but seems to be lacking in the realism dept. Is SKY the best solution for high-end realism? If not, then what approach should I use?

I've always had trouble with outdoor lighting. In v.9 I usually use a skydome that's giving off some GI, a sun, and a bounce. My results were just so so.

Does anyone have advice on lighting an exterior scene in C4D 9.5?

use GI, a sun with area shadows, a sky with gradient or hdri.
i also use ambiet occlusion in combination with gI.

the rest is GI setttings, materials, viewpoint etc, maybe use some filllights where needed. position the sun that you have visible shadow areas.
