This is new for a demo to me.
And if you return the software within 30 days , you pay ABSOLUTELY NOTHING ($49 US / $79 INTERNATIONAL if not returned).

Hmmm - Return the software?
Are they sending you a CD/DVD you have to return?
If not then it kind of sounds like they'll charge your credit card unless you prove you removed it from your PC.
How does this all actually work?

They are are charging you for the dongle which they want back if you don't purchase. EIAS uses a USB dongle that is sent out with the demo CD/DVD. Evidently they tried to make a dongle-less version but had issues with either having to disable features (bad for a demo) or crashes (also very bad), or demo only file types (also bad if you decide buy and lose your demo project).
So in the interest of demo users being able to run the app it it's full glory. They send you a full working copy with a dongle that expires in 30 Days. If you purchase or require more time they can give you a new code to reactivate the dongle.

Here's what I found on postforum:
I believe you all are missing some details. One, if you already own EIAS you can download and evalutate EIAS 6.5 for 30 days without giving a credit card. Two, we ship a dongle/dvd to you anywhere in the world free if you are a new customer and enter your CC info. If you choose to buy the software you pay only the price for the software and don't pay the demo fee. If you return the dongle you pay nothing.
We actually have already seen a considerable amount of demo orders from all over the world. I believe that if I was to buy software costing the price ours does I would like to see the actual software in use. Not 50%,75%, or even 99% of the features. I would like to see it at 100%. If we offer a downloadable demo that has everything turned on we compromise our security measures.
Also, EIAS Demo software in the past was very crash prone because of people opening projects that were created in a unlocked version. If a project contained anything that was turned off or implemented differently in the demo version of 6.5 then it could cause problems or even worse crash.
As, I would like to offer a simple downloadable demo I believe that with previous versions the downloable demo was actually counter productive and we lost many customers that did not feel comfortable in buying the full version with our word, "this crash won't happen in the full version".
I hope this sheds some light behind our decision.
But still, it is an odd strategy.
I went through the whole process and entered my CC#, and the site said I will receive an email with information, but I got nothing. This was a week or more ago.
(edit: thanks for the email jscott (member.php?u=2692), I'll email them as soon as I get the chance)
