This is actually my first post here. But i wanted to show some stuff i did at work the last few month. Those are realtime models of famous buildings in Vienna. Some are a bit high with the triangle count (ranges from 5k to 200k because of some statues and fancy details) which will be cut our when importing into the engine.


Burgtor at Heldenplatz:

Castle Schönbrunn (completely modeled, this one weights at 200k tris together with the Gloriette):

A pity i dont have any wires at the moment. probably ill put them up later.

very good stuff, I hope to visit Vienna some day! You should give us a flythrough or something when you put it all together. Maybe a little more dirt near the bottoms of the structures, otherwise incredible texture work so far.

I also wouldnt mind seeing a few of your textures (and at full size, i cant think about how much detail could have gone into those) did you take photos yourself or use stock?

well, i took the ref photos by myself.

im sorry that i cannot put the texture sheets up cause of an NDA... but i'll make some wires later

btw, here is the missing picture. the building in Kärntnerstrasse ;)

Wow, these are very well executed. Could you please provide an insight into how you textured these; Texture sizes, are they tiled or sheets? Perhaps an explanation of how 1 of the building was appraoched would be useful.

Also what game are they for?

well, i'm under an NDA that includes that i must not talk about specific things of the creation process.....

but i can say i used texture sheets and for some parts tileable textures....but i still try different ways to approach.

texture sizes on these are 1024² for showoff cases ;) the larger buildings use multiple sheets

what language are you using when executing these objects?

i'm really interested on doing this, especially the walk-through and the 3d orbit.

a texture sheet is just a bitmap with all textures of a certain object mapped on ;)

I am totally amazed. They look like photos of real buildings. They are sooo beautiful. Thank you for posting them. Is this for that new game True Crime Vienna?

btw i made some Detail renders, nothing fancy tho.

you can see that i modeled a small room inside the secession where you can view some paintings (i made them some time ago) and a statue when looking through the glass roof.

the roof there isnt 100% accurate, but when i ve time i'll fix that ;)

i'm curious how do you work? do you visited all these places yourself and took pictures of the buildings and then visualize them in 3D?

yes, as i live in vienna its not hard to reach the places and take photographs ;) makes work much easier ;)

Hey man, those buildings look friggin sweet!!

Im curious as to how much (if all) you photo sourced the textures. I have absolutly NOTHING against people who do this (hell I do it sometimes), but I'm just curious as to if you did it to get that level of detail.

well, i'd say 90% of the textures are photosourced. except the statues and some of the roofs (and few details)....but i was told to use mainly photo sourced textures, so it has a nearly "photorealistic" look.

With such neoclassic buildings it would be a hard job to paint all those with all the fancy ornaments and architectual things on it ;)

great work! really amazing models/textures you have done here! what software/renderer did you use? did you bake lighting (gi) into the textues or just used it for the renders? looks nice!

just wanted to ask if you could give me some background info to this project - i am from vienna too, so i´d like to know what is going on around here. is it a game? a realtime sightseeing tour through vienna?? what is tisc media doing - never heard of them...?

anyways... good to see there is some high quality work coming from vienna, even if its quiet small in a sense of game studios and post-production companies... keep it up!

well for the renders i've just used the 3dmax standart renderer wirh a sunlight placed in the scene...

when preparing the models for ingame i use lightmaps (with dropshadow).

yes you're right, in austria there are not many companies and even less that produce good quality....

heres the latest wip from today:

tomorrow i'll finish it...

this one took me one week, but it depends... i'm working average 30h per week...but castle schoenbrunn took me a month to finish (had serious coputer troubles tho ;) )

the normal house (kaerntnerstrasse) i built in one day, i think 8 hours included taking photographs.

Oh. My. God. This is positively amazing work, especially considering the speed at which you're doing these. The models are beautiful, and the texturework is fantastic. I'd love to see more of these.

for the quesition what camera i'm using to make the texture refs ....

well i just have a "Lenovo V30" with 3.2mp not realy a top notch product ;) ...

(the photographs are heavily edited, with lots of hand painted parts in the textures)

Really really nice work. I have not been to Vienna or seen these buildings, I would love to. However from what I can tell, you nailed the scale down with your proportions and all the little details, not an easy thing to do on structures of that size, well done! :thumbsup:
