how do you bake textures in maya/mental ray, are there tutorials for this?

I am also looking for a tutorial. I have only found one on highend3d but it is rather old. I tried the batch bake but with the same workflow i get different results. The baked textures looks very poor.

Here my workflow:

1. Select Poly and assign texture.
2. create new uv set
3. Normalize UV
4. assign new Bakeset

Bakeset settings are set to max quality. 1024x1024 maps.

Said as before i wonder why the quality of the maps are poor refer to the original texture.
