Hello, this is an image made as a personal work. It was my take at the topic two characters dueling in the city. It was for a contest. I started with some rough pen thumbnails and switched to digital. It was interesting to look for different ways of presenting the picture and make a more inmersive perspective.
Hope you enjoy it.

Nice work ! I like your strong stroke style and your colors.

Somehow, I'm a little puzzled by the details you gave the same way for the caracters and the background. To my mind, our attention should be focused on the main caracters if you've left the background a little more blury.

And at last, as a martial art performer, something else disappoints me : it seems that the mechas head is cut by a horizontal slash while its body vertically cut.

11 November 2005, 12:05 PM
Just amazing!

11 November 2005, 01:10 PM

11 November 2005, 08:13 PM
One of the best works I've ever seen so far, Duel is a work with everything on it. Good ideas, very well done concepts, superb color and a genial frame!

In synopse, this work has such details.. I would love to see it in his original size!

Congratulations on this work, and you have my 5 stars!

11 November 2005, 09:15 PM
just beautifull.

11 November 2005, 12:04 AM
I agree with Van hoan The way the warrior is cutting suggests that the head should be split vertically. With the rest of the detailed and decently contrasted ships I initially mistook the head for a ship coming at as from the mid to background.

The main character gets obscurred by the combination of a (tough to do) top down angle with a myriad of hair strands and costume trails (which also competer with each other.

Don't get me wrong though - It is a very interesting piece - I especially like your framing choices and the character it gives the entire composition.

4 stars

This piece reminds me of the older cover art from the 50-60's. Nicely dynamic, yet humorous and deep.

Muy buen trabajo Pablo, eres el mejor.

12 December 2005, 10:22 PM
Oh, I love how you made parts of the image expand beyond the frame -- really draws me in and adds even more to the feeling of motion, and the wonderful perspective! Great use of color as well. The only thing I notice that could be improved is that some of the clouds look a bit flat.

12 December 2005, 10:32 PM
Great piece, very inspiring !

I especially like the way you continue your painting outside the borders...Plus I dig the environment..

Bravo, 5 stars

12 December 2005, 02:03 AM
Great stuff, love the composition :)

12 December 2005, 03:26 AM
supper nice. Excellent palate, wicked angle and fresh presentation. It has both a refined and a loose feel because of the way you've handled the boarders. One thing though, is that motion blur to the left of the decapitated flying head? If so, it should be to the right of the head(behind), no? Since that's the way the head is flying.

12 December 2005, 04:14 AM
wow....very impressive :D 5 stars

12 December 2005, 04:25 AM
it is technically well done but it lacks of contrast.

12 December 2005, 06:06 AM

12 December 2005, 11:55 AM
One of the best 2D pieces I have seen in a long time.

12 December 2005, 12:11 PM
Thank you! really appreciate it! Here is a process pic for you. First I made a pen sketch, scanned it and finished with photoshop. I think it may be interesting to see some steps.

12 December 2005, 03:23 PM
Very intense perspective.

I bet you got inspired a bit by the know...the lightsaver (I think that's what it's called)

But then turned it around and made it utterly unique and your own.

Very, very good.

Congrats on Front cover!

12 December 2005, 05:18 PM
Holy Shnikies!!! This is AWESOME

It's so spot on it looks 3d. The matte b/g is especially impressive.

Can you give us a peek into the WIPs or your technique?

12 December 2005, 05:54 PM
Only crit would be in the final I feel the horizon draws your attention more than the characters cause of the brightness and perspective.

Great work!!!:thumbsup::thumbsup::thumbsup:

12 December 2005, 06:28 PM
Great work. Strong and dynamic touch, with a very efficient composition.

5 stars for me.

12 December 2005, 01:26 AM
awesome perspective! i love the blade ghost trail! its awesome

12 December 2005, 03:39 AM
Amazing work! Awesome perspective! Very impressive!
It's nice to see your process of work

how long it takes you to make it?
5 stars for me!!

12 December 2005, 05:37 PM
As said before, this is stunning work. It's a take on the battle between Obi and Grevious right? I'm supprised nobody has said that yet, it's the first thing I saw (and I'm not a SW fanboy) :) It's what SW would be if it were darker and more organic. Once again, great work.

12 December 2005, 09:32 PM
Hey Pablo! :) amazing work!!

12 December 2005, 10:17 PM
This is sweetO...great work.

well everything i wanted to say has been said! so its really beautiful work and the border really does give it a real unique feel

01 January 2006, 06:56 PM
You work is full of imagination and the angles are awesome. When I looked at I first thought of a scene from Star Wars, the colors and the presentation of the art work is well thought out. Perhaps I'll be that good soon..

02 February 2006, 02:58 PM
Great painting and perspective.I really feel the action in this picture.I saw your site but there is one 'but'....there is too little of your works there!!!;)They are realy nice too look

02 February 2006, 04:07 PM
Really Fantastic!

02 February 2006, 04:20 PM
Great! I like it very much~!

02 February 2006, 10:46 PM
Really great perspective. The outer frame gives it a nice touch. That electric blue and gold color scheme really caught my eye in the thumbnail and brought me into the picture. Right on.

I DO have to agree that the work is very good. However there seems to be sonething wrong with the inclination of the arena the... things are fighting on.... Regardless, I can offer you five stars for the DRAWING.

But also take note that I have joined the forums for your drawing, dearest Pablo.
And this is why: Your drawing depicts the fantasy future of a hi-tech fallen world in which robots fight with both laser pistols and glowing iron sabres. This is one of the most pupular Digital art cliches, Pablo. I am so sorry, but this drawing lacks originality. Your tehnique is marvelous, you truly have potential, but you should probably try to focus it on some other direction (like maybe game developing - that could even raise some serious money for you). I have seen TONS of works just as good as yours in technique and following the same cliche, they came from both passionate youngsters and experienced drawers, they were not awarded in any way and, indeed, they were invaluable. The score I will give you is the following:

5 (technique) + 1 (orig) = three stars. Which is pretty high for how this newly emerged fashion appeals me, but, as I said, you have THE technique.
