After some testing 3d-palace is pleased to announce that our new service for artists is now open - (

3dshowreel is a free hosting system for 3d and 2d artists to host their showreels on with no bandwidth limitations - artists can host a showreel as well as very high resolution images and then link them directly to cgtalk or their forum of choice without irritating popup banners, having to load a new page or any of the other problems found with "free image hosting". This is because we manually check and approve submissions to ensure that we are only hosting work by artists.

At the moment we are in a running test, having recently hosted 4 cgtalk frontpage reels and image collections. During this we are giving hosting at 35 megs for reels and 5 megs for images - may not seem much however we give as much bandwidth as you need thanks to the 3d-palace backbone servers (we have a good few terrabytes of bandwidth available per month)

Please note that we are not a gallery service - we are also not a work in progress hosting service - we are here to host your professional finished works so that you can get maximum exposure on professionally viewed websites. There are no upload forms on 3dshowreel - you request an upload and are given ftp access - after you upload, one of our team of moderators will check over your files to ensure that they follow our basic rules on pornography, piracy and decency, as long as the files pass this then they are moved to their own folder and you will be notified of the direct links as well as having a thread posted with the direct links in the 3dshowreel forums. After that you may use the links as you wish. This is to make sure that the people that need their files hosted, get hosted.

Feel free to add comments, ideas and so on, we will be running as a basic service for the next 6 weeks to test our functionality and operability - we look forward to helping you.

This sounds awesome Cris, thanks for helping out all of us not only showing but watching these videos! :buttrock:

Wow, thats really generous of you :) Thanks! Hope you can host my showreel one day.

I'd like to personally recomend this to anyone looking to have their reels hosted or anyone who might be anticipating a frontpage plug anytime soon for their demo reel. Cris was kind enough to provide a mirror for me when my reel was on the frontpage and everything was rock solid, I don't even remember how much bandwidth he held up for me (what was it, 50gb or so?).

 to Cris for this one and finally giving us frontpagers a little bit of a cushion for hosting :)

I thought I'd just add my thanks for such a great service. It truly is an invaluable service to most of us who are getting our reels together and find some exposure in the world.

Many of us will be thanking you guys for a while.
I'll book you a ticket to heaven in the process too :)

this is a great service!

I wanted to post my reel for a long time, but no way to do it.. thank you so much! =)

Thanks for all the comments about the service! Its picking up now with us hosting a few reels, I realise that the manual checking process is a somewhat laborious process however the personal checking of files is what makes sure that we are able to host artists reels and not crap that shouldnt be there and we really look forward to hosting many more reels for the community as a whole. Since starting up my team of moderators has proven excellent at their jobs - Martin, Jon and Meganne are able to locate a request for a reel and get the ball rolling now really fast! Great work guys.

At the moment I am looking into some expansion of the basic system on 3dshowreel to allow people to set up their own page, gallery and bio automatically. Hiring a code is an expensive business however I would prefer to get some custom code in place instead of a cranky off the shelf piece so I suspect it might take a month or so - in the meantime however we are concentrating on our core remit, hosting your showreels on a stable server.

I look forward to seeing more reels on the site and also look forward to seeing people enjoying browsing what is there :) For advertisers, feel free to get in touch if you like - its a new site with not many visitors yet however it would be a good way to 'touch base' and get a relationship with advertisers for the future when we are starting to get some serious quantities of reels hosted :) We have managed several frontpaged cgtalk reels now and we are looking to doing a lot more. (I would purchase a banner for the showreels service on cgtalk however funds dont permit sadly)

Best wishes to all and thanks again for the positive comments

Hi Cris, I'm just wondering if the website is down or it's just me? Or did you decide to give up running 3dshowreel?

02 February 2006, 10:06 PM
I suspended 3dshowreel a few days back as I need to find a more efficient way to distribute showreels unfortunately - the old system was eating bandwidth at a rate that even my most nightmarish planning had not forseen, making me think that users of the site were not just using the reels for cgtalk and their email portfolios and so on but also as a kind of on demand CG Jukebox.

Im working at the moment on a solution to this and 3dshowreel will be back I promise :)

Good luck with finding a solution. I would love if it was up in about a week and a half but I am a patient person. :)
