i wonder whether anyone could give me an advice or maybe even
exactly explain what "shared materials" are ? I have run into a
problem while baking lightmaps with Maya (7.0). More or less
the same scene with just on lambert material assigned to the whole
geometry. Baking with GI, an MR area light, no FG. One scene
renders perfectly quick while the other seems to bake forever even
with the lowest settings (128*128, -2,0 100 GI acc etc.)
(it probably does but i have canceled the baking process every time
after a few hours). Rendering the scene on the other hand is not a
I checked the script editor on the 2nd scene and Maya spits out this message:
// Info: (Mayatomr.Lightmap) : SG: material is shared
So i guess this is where my problem is. Unfortunately the MR
documetation provided with Maya isnīt all that great. I found
one match and i basically understand what a shared material is.
Since this material seems to be somehow referenced the GI
calculation probably is running in some kind of circles. But how
can i avoid assigning a shared material to objects in a scene ?
What did i do wrong ?
