View Full Version : WIP: Musketeer

10-30-2005, 07:05 AM

A current WIP game model of a early 17th century musketeer based off of period reference (drawings, paintings).

It was modeled in Maya, and textured in Photoshop.

6000 pre-set poly limit, and I'm at 5996 right now.

I haven't yet done transparency and reflectivity maps, or rigged and posed it. There's something about it that is bothering me, but I just can't put my finger on it, so comments and criticism please.

I like this model and I think that what is bothering you are the thighs. They are a little too long and maybe the nose could be just a little bit short. I think that you are not going for a very realistic style, but I think that these two details could improve the model.
Cheers :)

agreed on the nose. the neck seems a little short, or maybe that's just the collar. ankles seem thin. hairy bits need work. they need to appear to blend out of the skin. at the moment they seem pretty stuck on, especially the eyebrows and goatee.

that said, the model's looking really good.

who set the preset poly limit? is this a professinal project, or a test?

keep it coming

who set the preset poly limit? is this a professinal project, or a test? I did, and I suppose this would be considered a test - it isn't being for someone else.

Anyways, did some of those fixes. The nose was off a good deal - it's still on the long side, but that's what I was going for character-wise.

that's heaps better. the hair coming down the sides of the hat still seem a little clumpy and polygonal though. This tute might help with the hair a little too. Some simulated sheen would help a lot:

on to the spec map? a few lines if sheen on the hair and leather a shiny nose and cheeks, and a glossy eyeball would really bring him to life.

keep it coming
