View Full Version : bump map with MR elliptical filter?

Ipossibly an odd question here but is there a way to plugin the ellipticFilter node to a 2dbump node in a maya shading network...? it outputs color and the bumpValue takes alpha...?

rendering a regular bump with MR looks terrible with repetitive tile or grid textures (ignore the shadow lines):

as you can see in the distance the tile grouting blurs halfway into the center of the tiles, which basically looks wrong. the same thing happens if i plug the tile texture into the color, but it mapped correctly when i tested the color channel with ellipticFilter.

if there's another solution i'm not aware of any help would be cool :)

holy crap on a stick, i got it working :bounce: actually it was pretty straight forward, just plug the elipticFilter into the colorEntry of a ramp texture, then output the ramp's alpha into the 2dbump's value:
