View Full Version : mentalray doesn't like my SubDs

Hello my fellow autodeskers  (sorry, couldn't resist).

I am trying to render out a SubD cube. I created the creases for the edges and all so it would look like a HARD object rather than a "soft box". I then went to mentalray for rendering but even now it renders as a soft box. This is very weird because the Maya software renders it correctly.

I went to the mentalraySurfaceApprox node and tried different settings but I still get the same soft box..

Any clue?

Hi if you've used creases as you've said then you should use collapse geometry.
Because mr has a hard times with creased sub-d's.
To retain the details you should use a level other than 0. As I understand the level works with conjuction with the finear/coarser. After creasng check how deep can you go and still see vertices if you feed that level number to collapse it should redefine geometry and render good in mr.
I don't know exactly if this explanation is true but it works :)

PS sorry for my english

I shall try that. Thanks :arteest:
