Good to see more people in this contest.
Looking forward to see your footage and crack!

Good luck!

11 November 2002, 08:21 PM
A bit of footage... :p  :p

11 November 2002, 08:25 PM
A preview of the fissure...
...still need to make a bump map and inside material.

11 November 2002, 09:24 PM
Hmmm.... excellent!

11 November 2002, 11:30 PM
after a little texturing spree in's what I came up with. (the bump is a bit low-res, need to remake it later)

11 November 2002, 12:49 PM
Rendered out a little test...will probably have to animate the crack bump-map later to give it more realism. :wip: :D

(use save target as....)

11 November 2002, 01:05 PM
all I see is big blocks.

11 November 2002, 02:16 PM're right...uploaded the wrong file...hehe :D :shame:
Should be fixed now :) :bounce:

11 November 2002, 09:33 PM
A little preview of the animation...looking quite finished now...
cant think of anything to add.
I didn't model the car, got it from 3D Cafe (thanx!) :D :D :D
Tell me what you think...and feel free to give any ideas :)

you have to save the file to your computer (stupid geocities)

11 November 2002, 10:52 PM
Nice work buddy, but the quality makes it a little hard to see this at its best. From what I can tell, nice crack! Might consider how the crack doesnt push the ground on the pavement? that is if it is pushing outward from the crack.

11 November 2002, 02:06 AM
That was very nice , I love how the crack forms.

The footage was a little bit too blurry though.

11 November 2002, 03:06 PM
thnx for the's actually mostly vertical movement...Isn't quite visible in this preview.
(I dont like the Sorenson codec, divX is much smaller and better quality)

11 November 2002, 12:34 PM
hey-cant download the .mov??? any other format you can save it in? mpg would be nice :)

stills looks cool

11 November 2002, 04:03 PM
very good i like, the car on the road is nice and the lamp post...
well done :scream:

11 November 2002, 04:52 PM
All I get is a page not available message, sniff. The still looks great.

11 November 2002, 01:50 AM
you have to save the file to your computer...apparently geocities doesn't support hotlinking. :wip: :shame: :D

11 November 2002, 09:18 AM
that still doesnt work for me... it saves as a 35kb file, first thought this might be a link to an uploaded mov but it isnt... cant u upload to another server?

11 November 2002, 04:14 PM
I agree with the other posts, this is looking real good. How are you animating the trees? The palm in the center looks especially well done.

11 November 2002, 12:59 AM
this is brilliant, I love all the little details. Great work. Would love to see it a little higher quality, and make some earth break of from the road when it splits.

11 November 2002, 05:51 AM
Hey man, looks great! My only crit is that I think if the road split like that it would get a little wider too... maybe I'm mistaken... but I would think so...

11 November 2002, 09:21 AM
Great work 3dsmax5 looks Very cool... i love the secondary animation. it gives it lots of realism...
how did you get the texture to animate?
looks really nice!!

11 November 2002, 12:12 AM
How did you get the trees going, it adds a lot to the shot?

Go on, you can tell us...

I'm guessing that maybe it was a windy day, and you started the footage with a freeze frame, then ramped up the speed to normal?

If it's faked motion, then it's very good.

11 November 2002, 02:17 AM
The palm tree is from the footage...the others are CG trees made with onyx treestorm. About the animating crack....Its a mix map with the bump map and a fading gradient, if you know what I mean. :p

12 December 2002, 03:38 AM's the wip links since most of them were wiped out with the server crash or something. :D

test1 (
test2 (
test3 (
test4 (

(wont work unless you save the file to the HD) :thumbsdow

And the final and footage (
