Company acquisitions are an exciting part of any business. Takeovers involve long drawn out meetings, intense negotiations, until finally a deal gets struck.

Recently such an event took place between AutoDesk and Alias resulting in AutoDesk finally agreeing to purchase Alias for $182 million in cash. For many this was an unexpected move by AutoDesk and considered a bold if not an aggressive strategy. Two industry favourite products will now stand side by side, Maya and Max under one single banner but for how long? Intense rivalry has existed between AutoDesk and Alias for years, where users of each application seemed to despise the others existence. It is an interesting time for the CG industry will it be filled with dread and trepidation or is this now the dawn of an even brighter future?
