View Full Version : My first real maxscript is out

Just letting anyone who might care that I've posted my first maxscript to the public. You can find it over on the autodesk 3dsmax webboard.
The script is called Mechnology Viewrender. It's a basic script that I'd love help to improve upon. It renders the active viewport in realtime as you work. It's not really suitable for big complex scenes, but if you need a tool to help you tweak your lighting or textures without having to keep hitting the render button all the time. It designed for use with the scanline renderer, but should work with any of them, at the cost of any overhead the other renderers may have. Read the message with the script for more details.
Let me know what you think, and if you can contribute code, or any help, I'd greatly appreciate it.
Thanks in advance!
cool script, simple idea - impressing result.
It works with illustrate 5.3, too.
I am missing, a disable function - and the callback stays in function if the dialog is closed.
It seems that something disables the right click? I create a Box and convert it to editable poly throught the right click menu -> but is still a box ?

First, Thanks for the feedback, you're actually the first to do so outside my company ;)
Unfortunately for now, the way the script works means you have to work differently than your used to. The right-click menu doesn't seem to work while the script is running. I'm looking into this. In the meantime I'll be posting an update that includes viewport scaling presets, the ability to pick a camera and lock the renderer to it, and the option to turn mapping on/off.
By the way, if you setup the script as a toolbar button, then it will act as a toggle and cleanly disable the callbacks.

Here is a copy of the latest version. Right-click on the link and do a save as
Please be aware that there are still problems with the ui. For instance I can't figure out how to uncheck the camera lock button if you had not picked a camera first. Anyone have any ideas? ;)
