hi i am just editing my animated short and i need a special transition between two movie files.I want the first to fade out and the other one fade in.Hope you know what transition i mean, but i can not find this transtion in after effects, i can not imagine that this simple transition is not available in after effects.Even in premier it is available.

You're just looking for a simple cross dissolve, right?

There's no need for a filter, since it's very easy in AE...

On your timeline, overlap the tail of CLIP #1 with the head of CLIP #2. The size of the overlap depends on how long you want your dissolve.

Open the opacity "channel" on #1 and set keyframes going from 100% at the start of the overlap to 0% at the end.

Now do the reverse on #2... 0-100%

That should do it!:D


P.S. The reason the transition is not readily found in AE is, well, it's a compositing and motion graphics program and not really a non linear editor... Now watch as someone says "Um, it's right here in this menu!" :D
