View Full Version : Help with outdoor night time lighting

11 November 2002, 03:09 PM
Good day all. Ran into a major issue with night time lighting. The software that I am using is 3ds max 4.2. The scene has to be made to a scale of 2km. I am am having many issues with extremely blocky shadows, and the light not looking right in many areas of the scene. I currently have 4 lights. 3 Omnis for general overall lighting, all set to dif shades of blues to get the night time look, and those are backed up with an free firect, set at a multiplier of .5 and a shade of grey, to help generate the shadows. Any ideas on what may help me out/places to go for tutorials?

Thank you all in advance

try experimenting withg big directional light (with bluish color, offcourse if it's night or twilight).
but, I suggest ya if you have a possibility to put your hands over some GI plugin (Vray, FR, Brazil...) or MAX 5 and his light tracer.
