View Full Version : Painting Weights Problem

I hope I can find a solution here. I am drawing a complete blank when I try figure out what the problem is......Anyways here is my problem....
I have completed rigging a character, so now I have begun the task that everyone loves doing..hehehe....painting skin weights! Yay!!!...anyways..hehe..I am not able to paint weights. Not even with the component editor?? It gives me a warning message:
// Warning: Specified weight could not be set due to locked influences. //
And it does nothing. I am going through all my steps, and have no clue why this is happening. Does anyone have any ideas why this is happening?? Any help would be GREATLY appreciated http://forum.simplymaya.com/images/smilies/new2/smile.gif

i had that same thing happen to me one time and i think it was something to do with maintaining a max number of influences in the option when i did the smooth bind. id say rebind it with that option off or like copy skin weights off to a duplicate of that model. its been a while since i had that happen but i think thats what i did.

Thanks for the help Malcolm. I tried turning the max influences down to 0, and it did not seem to work, but when I turned it up to a high number, 3 in my case, it seems to let me be able to paint weights now :) Thanks so much for help, greatly appreciated. :)
Andrei2k...Heya, my joints weights are not locked no, not too sure why this was happening, but seems to be working for now. :)

haha you can't turn your max influences to 0 (that is equivalent to locking all your joints) nor would you ever want to. Max influences means the number of joints that may affect any single vertex at any one time. 3 is a good number I think as long as you dont have too many concentrated areas that require more. Your rig usually helps you decide on what max # to use.
