View Full Version : Virtualstage - Open ended story telling tool - Thoughts?

I was wondering if anyone here had come across VIRTUALSTAGE (http://www.dakinewave.com/virtualstage/) by Dakinewave as yet?
It is an open ended tool with an ever growing number of characters to use as well as props to build sets with that lets you set up and create acted scenes with dialogue and facial animation. the simple animation system is built in so you create a few animations and have your actors perform them during the scene as well as have them speak to each other using either recorded voices or voice synth.
here is a scene using voice synth and facial animation and a walk created within VIRTUALSTAGE
they have a LITE version that is for people to see it's potential.

Do you think there is a market for such a product? I really want to see it grow but I think it's a tool for Real story tellers to assess.
Let me know what you think please, I'm most intrigued?

this looks like a cool idea... somthing to get to start off with maybe somthing that will be a use to visualization...
i'm wondering if there is an idea to seperate out different modules- maybe an action module that you can have people fighting or maybe croud simulation.
i didn't read anything about exporting the models out for use in other programs... maybe use it as a lyout program...
thinking out loud

seems like a great pre-vis tool but not any kind of acting simulator of course because you can't simulate real actors (assuming it's for live action). importing your own 3d models is nice too. I'm always a little worried when a software company boasts of things like a "powerful timeline editor" that lets you... edit scenes and ... add actions and dialogue that weren't there. It's like when i buy a dvd and under special features they list "fully navigateable menus"
i'll buy the lite version later today and try it out

REsponse from a mod on the site to my question about the software's lack of exporting
"To clarify, VirtualStage is not a professional animation package along the lines of, say, Maya. Rather, it enables the lay person to create animated dramas and movies. However, it does include tools that may be useful for beginners in animation by allowing them to play around and create some human actions and gestures. Unfortunately, these cannot be exported for use in other packages (e.g. Maya, Studio Max etc). Within VirtualStage though, the same actions and gestures can be used with any of the actors."
this makes it useless to me personally. I can just rig basic animations in maya
