Thierry Schiel is entered in the "Spectacular Challenge" update: View Challenge Page (http://features.cgsociety.org/challenge/spectacular/view_entries.php?challenger=8600)

Latest Update: Final Image: The capture of a Betelgeuse dolphin.

First very rough sketch.
I'll Push the drawing during the weekend.
The idea is to have a couple of humans in our future, with a pregnant woman watching a family of swimming creatures coming from a distant planet. The baby creature is more curious and comes closer while its parents are making beautiful dancing figures above it.
Thank you to let me know what you think.

09-09-2005, 05:34 PM
Woohoo!!! Awesome, you're back with all of us crazy, hehe, but why in 3D...why... hehehe.
Man, i wish i have the software to enter a 3D entry, but 2D will do it for now. Maybe in the future.
Anyway, the concept looks really interesting. Definately like the creatures. I'll be waiting in patience for more progress my friend. GOODLUCK

cheers

09-09-2005, 06:30 PM
Wel*come Thierry

Nice sketch and mood... Can't wait what will come this weekend :bounce:
... what about adding any little smart fox ?

09-10-2005, 05:39 AM

09-10-2005, 04:41 PM
hi thierry ... good luck and have fun with this one ... the sketch is great :D

but why 3D ? whyyyyy ? :)

09-11-2005, 11:27 AM
http://features.cgsociety.org/challenge/entries/11/8600/8600_1126438037_medium.jpg (http://features.cgsociety.org/challenge/entries/11/8600/8600_1126438037_large.jpg)

Well here's another concept, I think more spectacular.
While attempting to capture a dolphin on a distant planet from Betelgeuse, humans are facing the solidarity between the creatures of that place.
The male dolphin is helpless and watches his companion being taken away, unless the huge monster succeeds in scaring the humans away.

09-11-2005, 11:36 AM

09-13-2005, 07:26 AM
Thanks NOOB!

Ptichat, salut Yann, merci pour la visite and of course see you soon!
Salut à l'équipe de 3DVF:)

Cheers you all , eddieellis, Crying Horn, percydaman, Tranchefeux, HammaJamma,
FrozZT, Mr Micro26, Versiden, so glad you all like this concept.
Modeling has started, I'll post soon some first models.

Arc80, yes you're right it will be in mostly with Max. I thought of doing it also in 2D but 3D is fun too, so I'll give it a try. Thanks my friend.

My Spectacular entry:

09-13-2005, 08:11 AM
Man I can't wait to see this coming alive in 3d! :bounce:

09-13-2005, 05:24 PM
Thanks a lot overcontrast, vincent1, Hooch, will do my best. I'm starting my work on it now.
Gee days are not long enough!:)

09-13-2005, 05:51 PM
Great concept! I'm really curious to see your first modeling.

09-13-2005, 07:11 PM
Hey hey thierry, good luck realising the fine scene you're sharing with us... It looks awesome in a scary kind of way already...

09-13-2005, 08:57 PM
I really love the energy in the sketch. Can't wait to see the elements let alone the final render.

I understand about Photoshop. I'm doing a marsh scene with a lot of splashing and spraying water not to mention atmospheric effects. Already projecting 40 to 60 layers in the final Photoshop comp. Just can't beat the level of control it gives you.

Good luck with the image. Definately on my watch list and I can't wait to see it come together.

09-13-2005, 09:01 PM
gee! great sketch looks very spectacular!

09-14-2005, 08:01 AM
Thanks for your coments aWinky, DaddyMack, belseth, Jaba153. , I much appreciate, and it gives me strength to go on and surpass myself. :bounce:
Yes belseth, I tried to put a lot of energy in this and hopefully it will still read like this on the end version, it's always a bit hard to keep this on a 3D work. Lot of post work expected on this for dust and mood adjustments.
I will start posting models this weekend as I'm still polishing the designs of the various elements of the concept. :)

09-14-2005, 10:13 AM
Very nice sketch.. lots of character in it...

09-15-2005, 05:55 AM
WOW!!! :) Great concept!!
I can´t wait to see it finished, like everybody!!
Good luck for you man!

09-15-2005, 06:29 AM
That would be an amazing 3D image... it's already awesome in 2D... It looks like it's gonna be totally cool in 3D. Can't wait... I'm watching this one. :bounce: By the way, if you don't mind me asking, what 3D softwares will you use?

09-15-2005, 09:55 AM

Good luck! you'll need it.

09-15-2005, 03:11 PM
very nice concept! good luck thierry

09-15-2005, 05:05 PM

Salut Alexandre, I'll do my best man, 3D is not new to me, but seeing the level of the participants and the results of the previous challenges, this is really going to be a
hard work to get there. I'll push it to be the best pic I ever did.

09-15-2005, 05:08 PM
I am terribly impatient to see the modeling on this start... I can only imagine where to begin on this!

The steps to the first model of the dolphin. This might of course evolve as I progress on the whole project.

Your dolphin is very beautiful.

09-15-2005, 09:55 PM

Here is a more precise design of the pod the humans are using to capture the dolphins.
I didn't try to be over technical on this one, but more to have an original design that would be in the continuity of what I usually do.
This should keep me busy for the weekend.
Let me know what you think.

09-17-2005, 11:36 AM
I Have to admit that im kindda dissapointed that your not doing the Dragon concept for a sketch it was awsome... hopefully your enter the 2d comp with that design...

Anyway... looking forward to see how you progress with this concept... keep it up mate:thumbsup:

09-17-2005, 12:00 PM
Have no fear eddieellis héhé, the last drawing is just a close up of the pod for clarity of design, the main concept of the capture of the dolphins stays the same.
I probably should have posted this new sketch in the modeling milestone.

09-17-2005, 01:00 PM
SONIC-X cheers mate!

Gunilla Your words are warming my heart, thanks man  all my best for your entry too.

Just an intermediary stage from the modeling of the pod.

Nothing much this morning, just the face I'll be using for the divers.
This is a base mesh that will be further deformed and finetuned to get the various faces of the three divers, one in the pod and the two at the front of the pic. The ears might be covered with some kind of communication device, so I didn't push them yet.

A more detailed version of the divers suit.
Still very much a WIP and here the perspective is reducing somehow the proportions of the legs.

09-18-2005, 01:52 PM
Hey! Cool modelling!

09-18-2005, 04:41 PM
Thanks comrade Grigorij_ I much appreciate! :) I like your work too mate:thumbsup:

09-19-2005, 02:12 AM

Keep it up.

09-19-2005, 02:39 AM

bahman, cheers, I try to make the most out of the week-ends héhé

vincent1, thanks mate, yes I will go for the "capture" one as I think it fits more to the theme of the challenge. I might do the second one just for me later as some of the models will have been done already.

hhssuu, thanks a lot

Hi Lemog, glad you like it sofar, thanks a lot :)

Hi Archie, glad you dropped by after that week-end. Hope you had a good time. I tried to take some advance before the week, where free time is harder to find. Thanks a lot for your encouraging words my friend, glad you continue liking what I'm doing  :)

09-19-2005, 12:21 PM

09-20-2005, 05:10 PM
http://features.cgsociety.org/challenge/entries/11/8600/8600_1127236252_medium.jpg (http://features.cgsociety.org/challenge/entries/11/8600/8600_1127236252_large.jpg)

Hi, here is a more advanced design of the main creature of the project.
I'm still not convinced it's looking enough like a water creature, specialy the face. I'll be looking for more ref from crazy sea creature, but the idea is to get a monster that is both scary and beautiful because of its incredible colours and shapes, like very often with creatures from our oceans.

09-22-2005, 05:30 PM
Man, you´re going very well, it´s just amazing. I´ll be watching!! :) I like the last sketch, i thing you could look for a king fish or a beta fish for reference maybe, i don´t know. (they´re common but very colorfull fishs) :D A doubt: do the creature have four eyes?

09-22-2005, 07:03 PM
You can be satisfied by your sketch... the 2 sides are well representing... "scary and beautiful"... perfect !

ça ne laisse présager que du bon pour la suite, bravo Thierry

09-22-2005, 07:05 PM
cool design and modeling.
love the idea of beautiful and scary creaturea lot.
can't wait for more.cheers.:bounce:

09-22-2005, 07:32 PM
Hi Thierry, I like very much your version colour of your creature, courage for the modelling. I am to press to see that:thumbsup:

09-22-2005, 07:45 PM
excelent concept! me likes alot
i dunno if your planning to or not, but going by your scatch, I'd say add more creatures.
different kinds with different amount of packs. each species will have it's own personality and formations ... i do think u should keep it with 1 much bigger main creature. but alot of others. smaller creatures around him would be awsome !

defenetly gonna follow this one!

09-23-2005, 06:40 AM
That is a great sketch.Almost like an evolved pokimon.

09-23-2005, 10:44 AM
Wow! Really like what you have going at the moment.. keep going with the bright colours. Great concept, good luck with it ;)

09-23-2005, 10:58 AM
Nice sketches and great modeling good luck to ya man, holla!

09-24-2005, 09:13 AM
 SnoK, thanks for the suggestions and liking what I've done sofar. Yes the creature has 2 eyes on that drawing, dunno if it will stay like this till the end...

Lemog, thanks mate, always good to have some comment from you.:)

xric7, thanks a lot my friend.

Chris, hehe, thanks for dropping by and for your support!

zman, these are cool suggestions man, it will all depend of the time I'll have to finish this, but true, it's open for a lot of possibilities.

SONIC-X, hehe, sorry I don't know so much the Pokemon creatures, too many of them. Glad you like it:)

alfy, cheers mate. Will keep it up

beelow, thank you, I will start my work now on the model of the big creature.

09-26-2005, 07:34 AM
Thats going to be one scary monster.

09-26-2005, 04:20 PM
Hey, good serpent model. I like it.

09-26-2005, 04:22 PM
yunisirees, hehe yes at last, after a week of thinking and trying out various designs:banghead: (I didn't post all of them...) glad you like it man:)

SONIC-X, I got still a few days of work on it but it's coming out the way I want. Cheers!

09-26-2005, 04:58 PM
cool modeling

09-26-2005, 06:47 PM
Nice modeling on the creature. It really has that creepy undersea thing going on. The fins and such remind me a little of a lion fish, I think it works well with the eel-like body.

09-26-2005, 08:27 PM
Nice start on the modeling

good job:thumbsup:

09-26-2005, 08:45 PM
The creature is amazing, I'm looking forward to see it with some nice materials!:bounce: :bounce:

09-26-2005, 11:52 PM
Just have to say: Very Nice dude! keep up!
Good luck.

09-27-2005, 12:48 AM
this creature rules! so, you will zbrush it for details and displace

09-27-2005, 02:15 AM
Very nice model Thierry   and the way you lit it is making it look like you're sculpting a maquette. Wicked design as usual. be back for more, hehe

09-27-2005, 03:20 AM
Hey :) modeling looks great so far! Though im sure it will be your colours that will make this 1 special ;) Looking forward to seeing how it turns out^^

09-27-2005, 06:48 AM
Thank you all CUBISIS, soapy, Maxter, daWinky, bahman, Gus_clifton, Arc80 and alfy

Hi everybody!
Here's another update of the sea creature. There's still a lot I want to do on it before I go the texture part. Maybe some displacement map will help for the high frequency details.

09-28-2005, 08:16 PM
Heya Thierry, that's some fine progress there mate, I especially like the little hairs/ thorns on his underbelly... Keep it coming:thumbsup:

09-29-2005, 02:20 AM
hie thierry, found u through one of the reply u made in the 2d section, didnt know u joined the 3d entry,u have great porgress going here~very interesting creature design, love some of the compositional sketch u have made in the early pages~ came in and wish u luck here~
love ur master and servant entry:)

09-29-2005, 05:39 AM
When I saw the second cavity behind the first, I don't imagine a couple of eyes more... but that increase the originality, another good point for you mister Thierry

09-29-2005, 06:02 AM
i like your concept. all elements fit together very well. i hope to see more of your great work... :wip: :)

09-29-2005, 07:08 AM
Hi. i love your sketch. nice work. good luck.

09-29-2005, 12:41 PM
Thanks DaddyMack, I think I should extend the teeth a little more. They are not that impressive yet.

sh@ke, thanks a lot for your comment and liking my work sofar and my M+S pic . I hope I'll be able to do even better with this one.

thanks Lemog, I think I have to push the original side even further. Got a few more ideas and will try them out for the next posts. :) :bounce:

mac_andre, cheers mate, yes I hope to have in the end something stylishly consitent for all the elements. The sporadic work I can put in is not helping to make this happen easilysofar, so I'm glad you think it's there anyway. :bounce:

ali_rahimi_3d, thanks for your support man! :)

The next steps on that character will be done in ZB.

09-29-2005, 05:32 PM
Hello, Thierry. I just notised, that there is something wrong with the serpent's tail. It looks thick in the beginning, then suddenly becomes thin. Is it supposed to be so?

09-30-2005, 12:26 AM
The model is really coming along nicely. I too am curious about the serpent's tail. It seems that the thining is not quite consistant as it goes back... unless it's body is built that way intentionally of course, so i might be wrong about it, hehe. Anyway, it looks great. I love the detailings so far. can't wait for the texturing and environment i might add   :bounce:

09-30-2005, 12:28 AM
supercute pet! stylish, dynamic and cool! keep on rocking mate!

09-30-2005, 03:19 AM
Very interesting and good sketch. Good luck.

09-30-2005, 10:20 AM
Yes Grigorij, you're right the tail is wrong on that model, I just did'nt spend that much time on it yet, it will be fixed when I'll rework the character in ZB. Besides the tail might not appear that much on the final pic, as it will be covered with dust and stones. Thanks for noticing and sharing your thoughts. Cheers!

Thanks Archie, yes man well noticed, tail will be fixed shortly. I'm not too far from starting the fine details and the textures, maybe I'll start this evening. :) Stay tuned!

Thanks Sacha, this pic is fun to work on, it can lead me still in so many directions.
thanks for your comments

banzato, cheers mate :) thanks for commenting and liking!

09-30-2005, 12:20 PM
Your monster is looking great-it fits right in under the sea.

Hi everybody.
Here is an update of the POD. I worked a little more on the inside part where the guy is supposed to sit. Sill have to add cables and buttons everywhere...

09-30-2005, 08:00 PM
Heyyy Theirry, nice mix of curves and lines there mate:thumbsup: It looks like the back end could do with a little more detailing to balance it out IMO;)

Rock on:buttrock:

09-30-2005, 09:13 PM
Damn, so youre a 3d ninja as well as a 2d one??
I loved your M&S entry, so i know youll do a good job with this one. Nice concept, and i like the creature designs. Given the spectacular majesty that you are going to portray, i think the guys face looks a little cartoony and out of place.

09-30-2005, 09:20 PM
Danm  look at speedy gonzales here. You are one fast modeler. Oooh, that pod looks so nice. The design is freakin awesome. I love the intricate detailing of the control pit. You're making it hard for me to give you a critzs  Keep it up. This is seriously kicking arse

be back again my friend

10-01-2005, 07:21 AM
Hehe SONIC-X, thanx mate, unda da sea(singing) unda da sea :scream:

DaddyMack, thanks for the comment, you're absolutely right, this is a part that still needs some more work. It will be updated soon. I think I'm not too far from starting the textures on this one.

Hi Andy, thanx for stopping on my thread and liking my 3D work. I remember you dropped by for my MS challenge and left me a cool comment  Got your point on the human face, I'll be working on it today, so stay tuned for the update, it will look different.
Cheer! :)

Hey Archie, arriva riva! thanx my friend for your  comment, glad you like the design and style. :bounce: :bounce:

10-01-2005, 08:11 AM
Hi :wavey: , love the work here , really cool design on everything. Besides the sea monster is awesome. We can see the very awesome drawing skill and style you're going on

Suscribing , watching the good work, and trying to learn as much as possible...
Bonne continuation Thierry :bounce:

10-01-2005, 09:31 AM
http://features.cgsociety.org/challenge/entries/11/8600/8600_1128159110_medium.jpg (http://features.cgsociety.org/challenge/entries/11/8600/8600_1128159110_large.jpg)

Well, after playing for sometime in ZB with the base face I did previously, here's the result on the face of one of the humans, probably the one in the pod. I'm going to do real baddies out of them with earing on the face and scars, like space pirates, capturing a forbidden or protected species.

Ears are still not very well done, but again they might be covered by a helmet or earphone device.

10-01-2005, 09:37 AM
Hi Zapan! welcome on my thread and many thanx to you for appreciating my work :bounce:

10-01-2005, 01:06 PM
hi thierry2005!
nice face and cool furiouse expression on his face .. will he have a cigar :)! and the pod is looking cooler!

10-01-2005, 01:59 PM
great face thierry !
The facial expression looks very good and the modeling is very nice!
keep going the good work

10-02-2005, 09:25 AM
yunisirees, Thanks man, hum, a cigar that's a good idea if he doesn't wear a helmet like the others, which is possible in the pod. That would be cool. Cheers! :)

Hehe thanks Nicolas! glad you like it  I still have some more faces to do, I'll push them even further, they'll look like true pirates!

10-02-2005, 01:23 PM
Dude you are fast... Fantastic models, almost flawless in my opinion. Can't wait to see more.

10-02-2005, 01:27 PM

Another face for a pirate, the one at the bottom right of the picture.

10-02-2005, 05:22 PM
Thank a lot keetmun, well they are not exactly finished and still have room for improvement, but I'll see with a first pass of texture how it shows up before overworking them. Cheers!

10-02-2005, 05:26 PM
http://features.cgsociety.org/challenge/entries/11/8600/8600_1128273966_medium.jpg (http://features.cgsociety.org/challenge/entries/11/8600/8600_1128273966_large.jpg)

...and here is the 3rd one, he looks like a contender for the POD place. He doesn't look exactly like a sport kind of guy to go diving with a suit.
Comments and crits welcome of course, as usual. Thanks in advance, cheers!

10-03-2005, 12:03 AM
wow man the face's are cool ! very expressive indeed ! as said before!

10-03-2005, 05:26 AM
Fast work for these pirats... but tru effective work... congrats mate... 3 strong faces with the "good" design...

10-03-2005, 06:21 AM
Nice looking faces - they suuure are ugly!
In a good way, of course

I like their teeth

10-03-2005, 06:26 AM
Great work on these pirate-heads. Good expressions and a unique style:thumbsup: . Can't wait to see more of them (especially the third one in his suit...):D !

10-03-2005, 08:27 AM
loving the work dude..you're progressing really nicely!

10-03-2005, 01:04 PM
Thanks, yunisirees , the fat one still has some place for a cigar, really got to put this idea in there. Cheers!

Thanx Lemog, yes I tried to make very different one from another, the one I'm not entirely satisfied with is th efirst one I did. I think it can be stronger and more charicaturised. Will be working some more on him. :)

Andy, thanxs a lot man, with the textures they will look even more ugly! :wip:

Thanks Sabrina, I will probably design a special suit for the fat one. There will be no reason for him to have the diving suit the others have. Will be sketching further for this one before modeling. Stay tuned, hehe!

Cheers Versiden, your support is much appreciated! :)

10-03-2005, 03:26 PM
Damn impressiv heads

Love those, soo expressive, and so stylish and soooo fast !!:bounce: :bounce:

10-04-2005, 04:01 PM
Very nice head modelling, but try some relax modifier.

10-04-2005, 05:43 PM
Your modeling has a lot of character, which is cool. Really looking forward to seeing that hydra creature with all the colors of its concept!

10-05-2005, 10:44 AM
Thanks Zapan, for liking the expressions and the style. :)

Cheers Grigorij, but 'not sure why you suggest to use a relax. Do you think there too many bumps or details? Thanks for commenting!

Thanks Diego, the creature will be worked on this weekend. Cheers, I like your work. :)

10-05-2005, 01:20 PM
Great style for the heads! In fact, everything is very stylish so far, no crits from me

10-06-2005, 04:46 PM
Thank you very much Gunilla for your nice comment:bounce: .
I'm a bit unhappy right now not to be able to spend my whole days on this illustration, I guess like most of you on this challenge. So is life...

10-06-2005, 06:53 PM
I think this heads are just perfect in modeling.

10-06-2005, 07:39 PM
Ahaaaah lol... Great work on cramming their personalities and expressions into those models mate:thumbsup::thumbsup: Made me laugh at each one... Keep it coming Thierry, this is shaping up to be a truly great piece...

10-08-2005, 05:02 AM

Hi everybody!
Here is the first global composition of all the elements built sofar. Many places still to tweak of course as the models are not yet completely over, but it gives a sense of the direction it's going to.
Hope you'll like it.
Waiting for your crits!

10-09-2005, 09:38 AM
I'd love to give some useful crits but this is just so beautiful...

Very nice movement in your comp.

10-09-2005, 09:43 AM
So beautiful composition.
Poses are great. The sreaming guy on the front is excellent ahah.
It will be very spectacular with your all artistic skills and style.

Go for that one Thierry :bounce: :bounce:

10-09-2005, 10:07 AM

It's fantistic. i like your Dragon.

10-09-2005, 11:45 AM
yeah man! thats look mighty cool! ur on the right track here!

10-09-2005, 05:03 PM
very cool idea. nice model. good luck.:bounce:  :bounce:

10-09-2005, 05:31 PM
Great work, mate. I really mean it. Just one note. make your monster look at humans.

10-09-2005, 07:29 PM
Excellent composition... i see a solid concept, great detail and clean modeling:thumbsup:

10-09-2005, 08:28 PM
Hi Thierry,
the characters posing looks very great!
Also like the composition !
Keep it up ;)

10-09-2005, 08:40 PM
Umm... Yoinks!!! What an amazing shot thierry!!!

I agree with Comrade Sukhov about the beast and would add that I feel his mouth could somehow be more menacing too...

Wow!!! Good luck mate:thumbsup:

10-10-2005, 04:57 AM
Composition is looking really good I must say. Perhaps you could have the first scuba diver a bit closer to the camera? I think it'll really enhance the shot on the whole, show his emotions and all. Also the monster suggestions are great.

Cheers man

10-10-2005, 05:07 AM
Thierry super compo

I like it alote, I just find the monster to stiff looks like it's on solid ground not in water.

Otherwise awesome work

10-10-2005, 08:05 AM
Thanx Gunilla, glad you find this beautiful:) !

Zapan, your support is much appreciated, thanx man

tuck, thanks for visiting and commenting, man I just saw your work, very stylised and nice:thumbsup:

yunisirees hehe, thanks mate, so much I want to cram in it, dunno if my machine will handle it:scream: :)

creatingreal, thanks for your comment and for liking what I do, cheers!

Hi Grigorij, thanks man for the positive comment.:) hum, 'been thinking at what you suggest and maybe making the monster look at the humans would look clearer, but I think it has to go for the captured dolphin that is in the pod to try to free it.
I will bow the head and the body of the creature further down to make it more aggressive.

Thanks a lot Maxter !

Nicolas hehe thanks my friend:thumbsup:

DaddyMack, will work in that direction, thanks a lot mate!

keetmun, good suggestion, will see where and how I can pose that diver to see more clearly his expression. Thank you!

Hi Gérard, yeah this will work better after I reworked the posing. The idea is still to have him come from the ground to make it more spectacular with some dust and stones bursts.
Thanks for the comment man, mucho appreciated!

10-10-2005, 08:31 AM
Compostition is good, keep rokcing!

10-10-2005, 08:38 AM
This way is great Thierry... just to tweak a little you comp to have more depth... your a chief mate

10-10-2005, 11:09 AM
bahman, thanks ! 'will be rolling too hehe:)

Lemog, thanks Laurent, a few more days of modeling needed and then I'll be starting texturing.
Still so much work to do on this, and I still haven't started serious rendering yet...:D

Cheers for your support!

10-10-2005, 11:52 AM
Hi Thierry how are you?
Beautiful poses for your characters they look very scary ! and i undestand them !!!
That will be a very good image if you have time to do all you want to do, I think you will!
Impatient to see more!

10-10-2005, 01:29 PM
Hi Pierre, thanks mate .:) Sometime I feel I'm only starting the damn picture :scream: hehe!
I'll see how far I can go on it. Thanks for the support and welcome to the challenge.
Happy modeling to you

10-10-2005, 04:26 PM
whao, whao, whao

It becomes better & better ...man.
I adore the engin.I am to curious to see it with all the lights under the sea.
ps: work faster ...I can wait,

10-10-2005, 04:44 PM
Hehe thanks Fia, I'm trying to work faster, my eyes are crying:cry: and my hands burning:scream: .

Doing my best to keep the rythm:banghead: . Check the next post to see some fishy pictures...

These fishes are not meant to show up big on the final picture, so I didn't work too much on them, but I'm posting them anyway.

10-10-2005, 05:42 PM
this fishes are so cute... :bounce: hope your dragon not gonna eat them...

10-10-2005, 08:15 PM
Very nice and sweet textures thierry... candyfish and jellyfish

10-11-2005, 08:04 AM
Thanks Makaron and Laurent, hehe no the dragon can't even see them as they will be very small:) . I'm thinking of populating the sea with various other little creature with even stranger designs. I'll start them after texturing the main components of the pic.
Thanks for the support

10-11-2005, 08:08 AM
Great designs for the sea creatures - they remind me some of Ernst Haeckel (http://images.google.com/images?q=ernst%20haeckel&sourceid=mozilla-search&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8&client=firefox-a&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&sa=N&tab=wi) Perhaps you'd find his work inspirational. I do :)

10-11-2005, 10:41 AM
Hey thanks Gunilla, that's a good source of inspiration, he did so many beautiful plates of illustrations.
Good stuff! Cheers:)

10-11-2005, 11:46 AM
Your composition is looking great and gives a great idea of what you want to do.Keep it up.

PArt of the modeling WIP and I still dunno how this will behave in the final pic but it's kind of an alien underwater bubble-plant. I'll try to put some in the front and at the back.
Thanks for watching.

Cheers Sonic, glad you like tho compo sofar man.

10-11-2005, 09:14 PM
hi thierry2005
nice cool fishes there and specially like the unique looking alien plant!
cheers and nice going there mate!

10-12-2005, 05:14 AM

Another creature that will populate the scene. Agian it will be quite small compared to the main elements.

Thanks yunisirees and Laurent for your previous comments and appreciation. Still trying to keep the elements with a certain style. Glad you continue liking it.:) :bounce:

Hi again,
this time I started texturing one of the key component, the dolphin. This is the male one outside of the pod, the female will be slightly different.
This is still a rough first version as I plan to work it further and add small details.

10-12-2005, 03:16 PM
Some cool lil creatures here - pretty quickly done too!

10-12-2005, 03:19 PM

Hi everybody,
Did spend some time yesterday evening modeling some crazy plants. Here they are with just procedural textures, no painted bitmap sofar. Think I'll keep that technique as it will save me precious memory for the final rendering.
Hope you'll find them funny, like I do.
They are very colourful right now, but I'll wait to see how they show up in the global lighting before tuning them down.

10-13-2005, 11:39 AM
Really crazy Thierry... nice procedural shader... ça le fait vraiment bien... superb design and really poetic colors

10-13-2005, 02:01 PM
Thanks a lot Laurent, maybe they could be used as designs for new types of candies hehe:)

10-13-2005, 02:06 PM
all this color and your design, just put a big happy smile on my face :)
I say it again... It´s soooo cute... and how need a fishtank, when you finish with this, not me... I can put your image on the wall instead... :bounce:

10-13-2005, 02:15 PM
so beautifull , love the style :bounce: :bounce:
Procedural textures ? , well keep that technic , it rocks !!

maybe they could be used as designs for new types of candies
Ok I take them , how much money ? :)

Here is a first rough compo of the elements. Lots of textures are still missing but it's getting there.

10-13-2005, 06:12 PM
Woderful modeling and texturing on those plants. your comp is looking good. I like the reations of the divers. Keep going!

10-13-2005, 07:27 PM

10-13-2005, 07:33 PM

Oy... been busy for almost a week and a half now  (moving to a new house is a pain in the arse :banghead: ) Well, i finally got a decent internet connection and drop by at your thread first. First of, AMAZING works. love the texturings and designs of the extra creatures   The colours looks wonderful and i can't complain about composition, so no critzs, just TRES BIEN.
Be back in a few days again, hehehe.

cheers my friend

btw, me want another wallpaper for this :D

10-14-2005, 04:54 AM
Vache... ça fait du monde  a little bit confused for the moment, I'm waiting the next step... missing textures, etc...
...but no prob, you have all good elements for a perfect result :bounce:

10-14-2005, 07:08 AM
Great use of colors dude.Comming along nicely.

10-14-2005, 07:28 AM
makaron, hehe, really hope this smile will stay til the pic is over. Thanx a lot! Besides fishtanks are giving too much work:scream: :)

Zapan, very glad you like the style and the colours man, cheers!

P&P, thanks for the comment. It will read better as I progress on the rendering side. ;)

FrozZT, cheers mate, glad you stopped by to give your opinion:thumbsup:

Hi Archie!! So you moved, man that's a lot of work, so that explains why you haven't had that much time these days. Well, hope you'll be back on the mousewheel and the wacompen soon:arteest: to create wonderful stuff. Thanks for the nice comment on the work done sofar. Still so much to do on it though, but its taking shape. Rendering will be crutial of course. I'll be gone for a few days again for a TV market in Cannes and I'll hope to see an update on your thread when I'll be back.
Hehe no prob for the wallpaper:thumbsup: !

He oui ça se peuple, thanks Laurent! Yes, true this composition is just a WIP without proper lighting, the light will concentrate the focus on the center and the rest will gradually fade to not attract to much attention. There is still a lot to do on the texture side too as most of the floors are just pics from texture banks dropped on the surface.
Readability will be my concern as I move forward.
Cheers:beer: !

10-14-2005, 08:45 AM
wow! awesome designs thierry ... i am still a little bit sad youre not in 2d aswell

just keep on like this :D i wish you a lot of time and energy

10-14-2005, 11:04 AM
Thanks SONIC-X, though the final result might certainly look different in colours and especially in mood.

Hehe thanks Vahn for visiting and liking it. I wish I had time to try the 2D part, but I might disperse myself too much. Some incredible entries there already. Good luck man and thanks for you support:thumbsup: :)

10-14-2005, 12:16 PM
I think your composition is already spectacular and I'm looking forward to more texturing. Especially texturing of your amazing dragon:) .

10-14-2005, 01:28 PM
great work...

10-14-2005, 03:46 PM
Hi Sabrina, I kind of wait before texturing that big snake, I feel like I need two or three days in a row to do a good job on it and I don't want to be interrupted by things like going to work...
A weekend would be good for that. Cheers!;)

adel3d, thanks a lot, very glad you like it. Your entry for the last challenge was awsome.
Good luck on that one.

10-14-2005, 04:00 PM
I like what you hav so far, however, I think the scenery is too cluttered right now. It took me a while to even figure out what was going on.

10-14-2005, 04:53 PM
Hi gardogg, thanks for dropping by and liking it sofar. Yes I agree with you, there's far too much like this in the scene at the moment, hopefully it will be clearer when I start serious lighting work and when textures will also be finished.
Cheers mate!:)

10-14-2005, 08:04 PM
A really nice work on your character and your sea "props" : fishes, subaquatic flowers, etc.

I love it, tout simplement.:bounce:

10-14-2005, 08:21 PM
Greate job here!!!

10-14-2005, 08:26 PM

Hi everybody!
To dive back again on the project after some days of travel, I worked on the textures of the POD. It's still not over yet but it's getting close.
Still room for many fixes so crits are welcome!

10-21-2005, 07:48 AM
Beautiful start for the texturing - this one is really one of my favourites, just love the style
