Perfecto Gregor S. Togle is entered in the "Spectacular Challenge" update: View Challenge Page (

Latest Update: Final Image: "Bye Bye Baby" (

09 September 2005, 07:01 AM
Hi guys, this is my second time joining, I'm still thinking of a concept due to the "spectacular" nature of this challenge's theme. I hope I finish this time since my last entry didn't make it since I didn't have enough time to do it.

09 September 2005, 09:12 AM (

Here's my first concept sketch. Finally, my brain is working again... I suddenly just thought of an alternate version of this concept. My brain is working... must not stop working...

Anyway, here's what its all about. A kid is playing with his toy robot imagining it burning buildings which are simple boxes or wooden blocks. At the same time, a real robot is destroying the city.

09 September 2005, 09:16 AM
Sorry, there was something wrong with my internet causing my double post...

09 September 2005, 03:34 PM (

Here's another concept a more serious and somewhat dramatic.

This concept shows a baby amazed at the "spectacular" flight of jets near their building.

I think this concept is way more original and dramatic than the first one... what do you guys think? Suggestions please...

09 September 2005, 04:02 PM (

This is the basic shape for the jet I'm planning to use. I'll still be adding more details later on. I based in on the F5 Freedom Fighter Jet but I'm making some changes to make it more different and add some of my touch to it...

09 September 2005, 11:54 AM
hi Jepster2005
nice concept maybe pose the baby streching arm as if to touch the planes and the angle could make as if its actualy touching? :)

09 September 2005, 01:35 PM
Yey, my first reply! Thanks yunisiress! I'll try your suggestion but that's actually what I'm aiming for. The expression of the baby. I'm still experimenting on angles to achieve the baby's expression along with the look of the planes. Hmmm... I'll try to fix my angle a bit more... maybe I don't need those building blocks too much...

09 September 2005, 01:44 PM
Nice concept. Aircraft really look spectacular. Will they be combat aircraft, or will they fly formation for an air show or something like that? In the letter case, some nice smoke from the wingtips would be nice. Or two formation of aircraft flying in opposite direction. Anyway, I'm sure it will be nice.

09 September 2005, 01:58 PM
Actually Profg, I'm still thinking if I would use a combat plane attacking the robot from my first concept or letting them do a formation. Hmmm... But I like the idea of smoke coming from the wing tips. Hmmm... now I'm very confused. I think I like the formation better. The planes against the robot seems to cliché. I'll be updating my concept sketch soon. Thanks guys! This really helps a lot.

09 September 2005, 02:39 PM
cool idea. It reminds me of the movie "Empire of the Sun." The little kid, was very engrossed with planes and loved to watch them whenever possible. Frequently he had a model airplane in his hand while doing this. Cant wait to see more.

09 September 2005, 03:19 PM (

Here's what the plane will look like. I'm going to add the details later. Right now, I'm going to update my sketch. I'm going to take yunisiress advice on the angle. :)

09 September 2005, 03:24 AM (

Since some of my new sketches and files are at home, I used some of my freetime at work to do a little sketch on the baby. :) I'm not much of a 2D guy and I used a wacom pen/tablet for this... so, some parts are a bit rough.

09 September 2005, 12:36 PM (

My updated sketch. I'm on a very slow pace. Works gotten busy lately and I get really tired when I get home. I tried starting on the baby but I started back from scratch cause I didn't like my model.

09 September 2005, 12:46 PM (

This is an updated version of my sketch...I'm getting pretty slow... Tired from work... I started working on the baby model but I didn't like my start so I'm starting from scratch again.

09 September 2005, 12:55 PM
I apologize for the flodding. There's something wrong with my internet connection. How do I delete previous posts?

09 September 2005, 05:18 PM (

Hi guys... I went on a modelling streak last night... I'm very sleepy... got the head almost done. I still have some ears to do. I'm really sleepy... zzzzz... I'll continue it tomorrow...

09 September 2005, 02:12 PM
very interenting youre idea:)

09 September 2005, 01:52 PM (

Man, is my pacing cluttered, I do this, then I do that... I can't seem to finish a single model... oh well, here goes. Here are some buildings. The textures are not final since I just wanted to see the apperance of the buildings in their respective colors...

09 September 2005, 04:15 PM (

Baby's head is done. Did some basic lighting to see anything that might be wrong with the mesh. So far, so good. But still too slow... Go baby go! I'm sleepy... zzz...

09 September 2005, 07:30 AM
I think the jet could use a little bit more tweaking, it lacks the accurate details. Maybe you could practice more on controling your mesh smooths to achieve a more accurate model of the wings and body of the jet.

09 September 2005, 04:45 PM (

More buildings... I feel like I should redo my plane... I think I should find a better reference... I'm sleepy... zzzz...

09 September 2005, 03:13 AM (

Hi guys, I'm remodeling my plane... This time it's an F-14 Tomcat. I find it easier to model this plane since it has more parts than my previous one. And besides... this looks a lot cooler. Anyway, thanks MQdice for your criticisms.

09 September 2005, 06:57 AM (

Updates on plane... I'm really liking what's going on here... Oh my... I'm giving comments on myself... Suggestions please...

09 September 2005, 02:39 PM (

I got the plane done. I'm still thinking if I'm going to make have that camouflage look. Any suggestions?

09 September 2005, 02:56 PM (

Finally, I got to the texturing phase... I've been quite sick so my updates haven't been that quick lately... Anyway, does anyone know how to use SSS without Mental Ray? Help please...

11 November 2005, 01:25 PM (

It's been a while. Been doing too much lately... Oh well, the baby's done. I'm still thinking of adding more detail to the clothes but I'm not really going for the realistic look.
Comments and suggestions?

11 November 2005, 04:26 PM (

I'll be posting a series of images of my Work in Progress, I don't get to submit each finished milestone since I'm working continuosly to reach the deadline. Here they are...

11 November 2005, 04:27 PM (

Textured Jet

11 November 2005, 04:29 PM (

Crib Textured

11 November 2005, 04:33 PM (

My first attempt at lighting the scene... I just wanted to see how it looked like with some of the "final" elements in it. Well, that's all for today. My gosh, the deadline seemed so far but now it seems so near...

11 November 2005, 05:00 PM
hey man excellent modelling of the jet, and the baby is funny....good work boy

11 November 2005, 02:48 AM
Thanks melkao, you're my first reply since... um... I can't remember. I'm not sure though if you meant that the baby looked funny or looked cute. But thanks anyway.

11 November 2005, 04:47 PM (

Still a lot more to go. I still need to setup the buildings, etc. Anyway, some may be asking what the desk is for. Well, as you can see one of the windows are open, meaning some object on the desk will fly out of the window. I just wanted to add more action to my scene since I felt it was still kind of plain...

11 November 2005, 04:50 PM (

I just wanted to light up this scene correctly meaning, I want the lighting on the indoors and outdoors to be different... so far, quite good.

11 November 2005, 04:54 PM (

Just testing on what color of the sky will make the image have greater impact, I've always liked the time of day when the sky turns red with a touch of yellow or orange. Turns out it looks kind of great with the blue baby room. Somehow, I got to use complimentary colors correctly... I think. This isn't the final BG though, since the buildings aren't set up yet.

11 November 2005, 11:35 AM (

Well, I added the buildings, and changed the angle of the jets since the previous renders were quite dull. Maybe it was because everything was going through the same line of action. So this time, I changed the position of the jets, this time instead of a flight exhibition, this time it's a dogfight. I also did some color corrections and adjustments to add to the image. I also did a depth of field effect, and some motion blur. So far, I like my image. I have to work on the textures and add more elements to the scene to make it more spectacular.

11 November 2005, 05:55 PM
good work! haha antipid ng comment ano, nagiipon kasi ko ng engles para may matira pag kelangan ko pa. ayos yan, sa tingin ko lang e mas ilapit mo yung jet sa window para mas dramatic, tska bwasan mo ng unti yung motion blur, tska pano kya kung lagyan mo din na nagroll yung eroplanong isa para makaiwas sa missile kasi parang hindi sila nagdododgfight sa pose nila tingin ko lang naman. sige taguyod mo ang bandila naten:thumbsup:

11 November 2005, 01:21 AM
Uy pare, thanks. Nice comments, nice point about the plane rolling. Magandang ideya yun a. Astig pare. Salamat, you just made my day. :buttrock: mAbuhay ang pinoy!

11 November 2005, 04:17 PM (

Added some particles and the pillows the baby piled up to climb over his crib to reach his "toys" on the desk.
Just a few more additions and then the sky... ohhh... the sky.

11 November 2005, 06:21 PM
hiya Jepster2005

11 November 2005, 01:49 AM
Heya Yunisirees...

thanks for the comments... My work must be working well. Yuni just gave me a good comment. Wow. Thanks Yuni...:bounce:

11 November 2005, 02:19 AM
Hi Jepster..

Very nce stup, I like the arrangement of objects an mood of your scketch better, but this one is nice too, I like it to be that colored, I just think it has to much of strong yellow..

keep it up.1

11 November 2005, 02:24 AM
Nakary: Thanks for your comments and suggestions. Many people do say it has too much yellow or it is too yellow. I'll try to fix that... I was really planning more of a mix of yellow and red... Thanks by the way...

11 November 2005, 03:47 PM
i posted the comment in the 3dpinoyforum ( ;)
goodluck in this contest ;)

11 November 2005, 04:10 PM

11 November 2005, 01:54 AM
Phoenix_ace: Thanks for the comments.

Melkao: Thanks also.

In making the sky, I took some photos of skies around my neighborhood. Thankfully it was a sunny cloudy day so I got some awesome cloud formations everywhere. I took three pictures and choose one. Which is in STEP 1. In STEP 2, I edited the cloud by resizing, duplicating it, inverting it's colors, changing it's hue and saturation, then use a DARKEN layer blending to make it look like it was underneath the original cloud to match it's perspective with the final image. After some tweaking, it's time to resize the image to fit the view of the clouds in the image that could feature all the shadows and highlights of the clouds. After doing STEP 3, I composited the clouds into a "TEST" render of the image. And finally I got my sky. Now time to finish the image itself!

11 November 2005, 10:37 AM (

Toys on top of the shelf. All done in box modelling and shape extrusion. The swashbuckler is the toy_soldier type of toy. The jeepney is the baby's "vehicle" toy.

11 November 2005, 10:58 AM (

Building blocks spelling the aftermath of what may happen in the scene. :) I'm not making fun. That's what it's going to spell in the final image to add some humor to it. :)

11 November 2005, 01:06 PM (

Almost done... still thinking of what to add... any more comments and suggestions?

12 December 2005, 12:36 PM (

One sunny afternoon during the setting of the sun, a daily air patrol flies over the skies of "Safetown".

Pilot: Charlie to Black Blue Airbase, perimeter 0-500 is clear, no signs of hostile forces on air. Do you copy?

Base: We copy you Charlie, how about ground hostilities? Copy?

Pilot: Neither sir, all civilians safe and sound, no ca-- What the!

Base: Charlie what is going on? Do you copy? We didn't get your last--

Pilot: Charlie to Base! Air hostiles in the area, I repeat hostiles in the area! DO YOU COPY!

Base: We copy you Charlie! What is your status? How high are you?

Charlie: I am below sky level! I am on civilian building level, I can't pull up! I have to eject! I'm going straight down to the Safetown Capitol Building! Do you copy!

Base: Pull up Charlie! Pull up! Do you read me?!?

Charlie: Damn it, I told I can't pull up! Oh crap! I've been locked on as a target! missile distance in thr-- oh no.

Base: What is it now Charlie? Do you copy? Are you still headed through a building? What the hell is going on?!?

Charlie: I'm headed for a building... and I'm headed for a room... a baby's room...

5 minutes earlier..

Little Soft junior, wakes up. He looks around and sees that no one is around. Beyond his crib is a desk full of toys. He sees his favorite toy, the toy Jet, his father gave him on his latest birthday, his third birthday. He piles up his pillows and tries to climb out his crib... but before he could go out, he heard a loud noise. But still he tried reaching out for the toy plane beyond the desk, he's almost there. He could reach it but he looked out the window and uttered his first words that his parents were longing to hear...

Baby(while looking at plane out the window): Airplane!

Whew, that was one hell of a competition. I tried my best and used most of my freetime for this competition. I would like to thank the following for their help and guidance in the making of this piece.
