Latest Update: Final Image: cathedral (

09 September 2005, 03:03 PM (

Got the idea when I was out picking lingonberry.
Who knows what hides in the deep forests!
Well Im not sure yet, but some kind of abandon city or something else that is really cool.

09 September 2005, 04:55 PM
Love the idea! Though.. I think you should place real large trees around the city, that will also hide the city from for example airplanes flying by. You could make this large roots and moss surronding the city buildings, would give a nice nature/metal contrast.

I'll be following this, curious on how it will envolve. Keep it up!

09 September 2005, 08:30 AM (

Trying out some ideas on the same subject

09 September 2005, 05:04 PM
hi norberg,

welcome to the challenge. i love the economy of strokes in your painting! if only i could visulise something without having to use loads of lines!! keep up the good work.
is it going to be highly detailed or loose?

09 September 2005, 11:44 AM
I probably go for the cathedral thing. Im thinking a big, massive building with lots of different angles that reflects the light. Maby some gargoyles or an alien touch would make it look more interesting?
Right now Im sketching on a few different ideas but nothing looks anything near spectacular yet!

09 September 2005, 03:49 PM
good ideas about the building, but perhaps dont go for the 'alien ship/presence over the building' scenario. that a previous challenge:wise: .
maybe by concentrating on the building, clouds above, architecture, gargoyles on the building etc it would be cool.

p.s. these are my opinions ofcourse and i await to see what you come up with.

09 September 2005, 10:45 AM (

Got the idea from the brilliant artist Roj Fribergs work from the seventies.
Darkness falls over a city.
Think Ill have a few stunned people watching on the balcony in the forground.

09 September 2005, 10:57 AM
I like the concept ideas about a cathedral with light shining through the windows, lots of amazing color possibilities there, but the darkness concept looks promising too. I'd like to see both concepts worked out to be honest. ;)

09 September 2005, 12:26 PM (

Im thinking some kind of projection.

09 September 2005, 01:40 PM (

Building up colors and light
not sure about the composition...

09 September 2005, 02:04 PM
I think the idea about the discovery of an abandoned city is great! Im not sure about the composition though... Try to focus some more on making the viewer understand whats happening without being told what its about. Maybe some more angles also? Angkor Vat is a city that was discovered in a similar way that your image shows.. I guess you know what it is, maybe look for some inspiration there!

Lycka till!

09 September 2005, 02:10 PM
No you are right!
This composition is boring and flat.
I will try a different angle and a wider format.

09 September 2005, 03:18 PM (

trying a different angle

09 September 2005, 03:30 PM
Nice concept et good point of view. Better that the 1st one I think.

09 September 2005, 04:15 PM
the last one looks very eerie and cool indeed!

09 September 2005, 07:50 AM
I think Im on the right track with the last sketch, atleast with the colors and the mood.
Will try working something out in the forground. Not sure what but something similar as in the previous sketches.

09 September 2005, 09:06 AM (

trying some ideas

09 September 2005, 10:22 AM
Love all the sketches Bjorn,,some how I seem to like the black&white forest sketch, its a nice
angle too. you may need to add some matter to it thou!
Best of luck to you!..

09 September 2005, 02:39 PM
wow! another great moody cathedral scene! the horse gives in a nice scale focus. lets see whats next.

09 September 2005, 04:26 PM
Hi Norberg, some lovely concepts here. I really like the feeling of light and colour you'd captured with some of the earlier sketches, but I think you're right about composition. You're getting closer with the latest version, but there's one teensy thing that you might want to consider, that sprang to mind. Depending on which part of the discovery you're planning on depicting, it seemed like a little further on than that first "oh my god it's a huge abandoned city".. maybe putting some elements of the forest back in there, so you get the sense the ride has just stumbled upon it. Perhaps having him peering from round a clump of branches in his way.

It's a minor point, I'm not sure whereabouts in the sequence of events you're aiming for, so apologies if that's irrelevant. Oh, oh, if you stuck with the latest one... maybe you could have a dead-looking hand reaching out of the smog? Or a shadow of something monstrous silhouetted on the fog behind him, that the horse is looking so petrified about, make it obvious there is a reason this city has been abandoned!

09 September 2005, 07:50 AM
Thanks alot Sam!
You make some really good points about telling a story about what is happening, but to be honest I have no clue where Im going with this.
My latest thought was that theres something in the mountains that scares the shit out of people and creatures. Some old religious place, I dont know...
I guess I have to keep sketching

09 September 2005, 08:26 AM
I love the atmosphere you have managed to capture. The angles are really good, as is the lighting. The placement of the horse doesn't quite fit right yet. It may be too close to the centre of the painting and pulls the eye too much. Not sure.

Great work though! I am looking forward to seeing more.

09 September 2005, 08:46 AM
I really like the versions with the color spilling out of the window - gives it a much more unique look.

09 September 2005, 11:36 AM (

Trying a different comp.
I want to have som sort of projection from the cathedral, but I dont seem to get it look realistic enough.

09 September 2005, 12:38 PM
hi mate

cool lines and a astonishing change form good to much better

i realy like how you create a imaginal world with so little effort

keep up the good work

09 September 2005, 12:38 PM (

OK, this will be my final concept sketch!
The final image will probably look nothing like this but atleast Ill have something to work from.
and thanks alot for all comments and suggestions. It really helps!

09 September 2005, 01:19 PM
I think the most recent is my favorite.

09 September 2005, 01:58 PM
I personnaly prefer the 1st work. Better without the chaaracter because it was more spectacular and frightening. MAybe with only one shadow or silhouette it would keep the ambiance...

09 September 2005, 05:55 PM
I like the cathedral. Maybe you could make the image taller and cathedral as well? would look even more spectacular..

09 September 2005, 07:18 PM
This is beautiful, I adore the lgithing. Nice work on the horse too! I look forward to seeing some more progress

09 September 2005, 08:45 AM
Nice Lighting and love the action of the guy pullin teh horse, good luck!

09 September 2005, 11:50 AM
I like the cathedral and the lighting!

09 September 2005, 05:48 PM
Hi Bjorn,, I must admit Im fascinated by those two last sketches, well my favourite is the previous one without the human figure in it.. and I like the lighting near the monastry in the next one... whatsoever youre almost there!!:applause: ..and Ill be surely checking for more updates!:)
so keep it going..

09 September 2005, 02:19 PM (

Ive started working high res, still pretty rough rendered.
Working on the design of the cathedral in vector right now so that will be added later.
Thanks for looking!

09 September 2005, 06:14 PM
Good looking stuff man good luck to ya!

09 September 2005, 06:57 PM
I enjoy seeing such a strong evolution in the images -growing from a basic concept into progressively tighter image. The lighting so far looks great! Can't wait to see the details come alive.

09 September 2005, 08:57 PM
Beautiful development, wonderful lighting, this is progressing so well! :)

09 September 2005, 11:51 PM
Good composition now dude, Keep the details up.
Good luck.

09 September 2005, 08:56 AM
nice~love the lighting works!keep it going:thumbsup:

09 September 2005, 12:25 PM (

Adding some details and refining the sky.
Not sure about the foreground, moss and sticks or just rocks. Any idea?

09 September 2005, 03:00 PM (

The ruins of the cathedral will be on the top of the central pillar.

09 September 2005, 04:59 PM
This is looking good... I love the amount of progress you have made... keep it up!

09 September 2005, 06:37 PM
I love the mood in this one, it's beautiful....maybe add an animal or human in the fg? keep going yo!!

09 September 2005, 06:38 PM
I can feel a lot of power in this piece. Love the colors and the scaling of these enoromous rock forms. Keep going!

09 September 2005, 08:06 AM
Thanks alot guys!
and tarrzan youre absolutley right! I will have something in the forground. I just find it easier to work on the backdrop seperately.

09 September 2005, 08:20 AM
Hello Norberg! A vey good stuff, i like it! like tarrzan said, try too add maybe more an animal than a human, in order to keep nature feeling in tour image..maybe it can be a bear, a rabbit or a stag...good luck man an keep goin'on, that's a very good work!

09 September 2005, 11:42 AM (

Just some lineart to have something to work from.

09 September 2005, 12:54 PM
Top Amazing! please keep going, I glad to learn more. :)

09 September 2005, 01:55 PM (

Building up the shape of the cathedral but as Im starting to feel uncertain about the whole idea I will go no further for a while.
I feel that I need to try some other ideas first!

09 September 2005, 11:01 PM
this looks freakin' sweet!! it's almost done!:) looking forward to some other concepts...

09 September 2005, 11:22 PM
Very nice composition, I would keep this idea. Maybe just add some details, like putting back the guy and the horse..
..looking at all these good works it seems I still have a LOT of things to learn :)

09 September 2005, 09:09 AM
Here now this lock is pleasant to me!
For increase in effect it is possible to enter strong prospect that the space leaving upwards was reduced...

09 September 2005, 10:41 AM
hey Bjorn,

thats lovely!!total thumbs up!

just an off topic question: what is the size of your psd/riff file that you are working on?

like i said just a wierd question.(probably because of the amount of detail)

nice work.... and you have ANOTHER concept coming up?!
all the best,

09 September 2005, 11:17 AM
this is impressive! Im signing in ur thread with pleasure and lots of expectations :bounce:

09 September 2005, 02:02 PM
Thanks for the feedback!
I probably stick with this concept after all. Mostly because Im too lazy to work something new out. Just need to come up with an idea of what is going on in the picture. Something in the foreground that helps telling a story! I guess thats the tricky part...

Christian: This image is about 5000 X 7000 pixels. I work this big since I tend to crop my images heavily in the end.

09 September 2005, 04:04 PM
Wow, that's one big file! :-)
Anyhow, impressive work so far - lovely colors and shading, and the sky is just great. Looking forward to seeing the foregraound in eventually too.

09 September 2005, 08:44 PM
Wow!! I love this! I love the composition, the idea, the colors and the contrast!

But it lacks something... i don't know... I think it's too plain. I hope you'll add something.

Maybe in the foreground, right in the corner of the screen, the edge of the cape the man, who's trying to reach the cathedral no matter what, is wearing. And if you were to do that cape with a dark but vivid color, it would give a nice depth to the image...

*shruggs* just an idea :)

09 September 2005, 08:02 AM
Actually Silveraxe, thats a great idea!
Ive been thinking in that direction myself, but instead of a man I picture a woman in trance trying to reach the cathedral while another woman trying to hold her down, looking back pleading for help. It chould be a dramatic and dynamic scene I hope...

09 September 2005, 08:13 AM
This is really coming along! I am loving your latest update. You really know your colours.

09 September 2005, 08:53 AM (

adding detail to the rocks

09 September 2005, 12:34 PM
This piece is getting clear on where you wonna go with this, looking very promissing :) Great mood/colors and love the feel of hight. Keep going..

09 September 2005, 04:37 PM
very beautyfull work bjorn!! the rock on the foreground are incredible really nice composition too!

09 September 2005, 06:56 PM
very nice concept it's a spectacular vision of a cathedrale, i wait the suite, good work

09 September 2005, 09:06 PM
YEAH YEAH YEAAAHHHH!! :bounce: :bounce: :bounce: very good progression taht awesome man!! felicitation i like your picture..i insist, but try to put something like an animal on foreground..:) you're maybe busy on it so keep goin'on man..seee yaaaa:scream:

09 September 2005, 11:15 PM
This is so beautiful I want to stare at it and dream about it all day! What mood!

10 October 2005, 08:57 AM
To like me color. The truth is a little, as though it to tell, it casts any tragedy.. I do not know.. It Can only my sensations. Very beautifully..
I apologize for my bad English
Yours faithfully :)

10 October 2005, 10:22 AM
That is looking very nice, great stuff so far, keep at it, holla!:scream:

10 October 2005, 11:40 AM
hei Norberg
cool and nice painting progress! love the colours and the mood created!

10 October 2005, 04:47 PM
i like how your entry is evolving, keep it up!

10 October 2005, 05:44 PM
Damn these are all pretty sweet concepts I love how the colored light pores though the windows if u took your time and detailed one of those it could come out pretty sick :-) I wish u luck and I hope u do well with these

10 October 2005, 11:46 AM
i love tour concept; is it time tower ?

10 October 2005, 01:33 PM (

10 October 2005, 01:44 PM
 Really like this man!! Well done!

10 October 2005, 04:34 PM
I like u new concept work !

10 October 2005, 06:32 PM
impressive view :) snyggt jobbat

10 October 2005, 06:37 PM
After looking over all your concepts, I think you've found the most promising with your current image :) I really like how the dark clouds give way to an area of brightness above the ancient building. Since the distance is so foggy, perhaps you could try putting some of that fog in the foreground, with a pillar of darkness stretching out toward the bottom rock platform to help make the pillar feel more dominating. Maybe a collapsed bridge and some weathered carvings in the rock would help add to the feel of age. At the moment, the biggest thing that could pose a problem for you is how dark your rock pillar is in relation to the rest of the church. In the closeup it's not a problem as you can see the details just fine, though dark, but depending on how much the final image will be scaled, it would wash out a lot of those hard-earned details :) Perhaps a contrast adjustment over the whole piece could work.

Just thoughts. I'm really love what you've got thus far.

10 October 2005, 07:37 PM
great piece, fantastic mood. I agree with TKraccoon about the comment of the "groundseparation", maybe some broken/partitial stairways in front of it could solve that, that also suooperts the sense of scale.
keep up the great work!

10 October 2005, 08:22 PM
i like the atmosfere in your work, good look:applause:

10 October 2005, 08:50 PM
that is just stunning! that cathedral looks awesome!

10 October 2005, 09:06 PM
didn't like your idea at a concept stage that much as i do now - the cathedral itself is stunning, so mystical and believable at the same time.

10 October 2005, 03:05 AM
That is a really cool idea. I really like it so far, can't wait to see you take it further. Sorry I don't have any crits right now..too busy trying to come up with a piece of my own! >_< But I'll be back, I promise!

10 October 2005, 08:57 AM
I love the concept and this verticality. How gothic it is!!
You made construction plans on one of your sketches. Will you keep them later or not? I think it could have a special impact, like a spectral effect...
Good luck for the continuation.

10 October 2005, 05:03 PM
The concept is great. And for the moment, it's coming along really really nicely!! I like the style very much!

10 October 2005, 07:54 PM
wow... this ancient cathedral looks great!! keep up the great job!

10 October 2005, 08:19 AM (

trying out some lighting possibilitis in low res.

Thank you all for taking the time to help me out with this image.

10 October 2005, 02:11 PM
yes!yes!yes! the concept is just as good as your 'paint touch'. the ambiance is just dramatic enough and the vortex of light above the cathedral is just right to enhance the dramatic atmosphere. what's more to say? you'll show us...

10 October 2005, 05:44 PM
Cool, maybe you need more stuff going on to make this pop out..

10 October 2005, 06:14 PM
very nice development! no crits at the moment just enjoyment of following the process :)

10 October 2005, 09:54 PM
I love the mysticism in your painting. Dark, haunted and chilling. Congrats on achieving that feel. :wip: Keep it up.

10 October 2005, 12:42 AM
Nice update. It's looking better and better.

10 October 2005, 03:38 AM
hey, looking awsome!! love the lighting and the mood, cant w8 to see what else u do with it,
keep up the good work!

10 October 2005, 10:09 AM
very nice concept and sketch ....more work will make it ..:scream:

10 October 2005, 11:36 AM
Hi Norberg. Beautiful piece. I like your Update.

I'm looking fordwar to see more updates.

xbo :scream:

10 October 2005, 10:12 PM
Great work! This is turning out really nice. Love the light rays and atmospheric perspective. Great textures on the rocks as well. Looking forward to further development.

My Spectacular

10 October 2005, 09:20 AM
I like this work. It don't need characters i think it has enough ambiance and details like this.

10 October 2005, 12:18 PM
Just love it !

10 October 2005, 01:07 PM
I have a look at your work once again. You're on the way!! I love the ambiance
Just about volume light through the stained glasses (thank you babelfish translator), I think it could be more realistic with greater precision and with some light filtering on foreground (through the front "rosette" for example).
Good luck and good work.

10 October 2005, 01:35 PM
Great Image :applause: :applause:

I love the mood and lighting...great composition as well. A few highlights and such, especially on the water in the foreground (I'm sure you've already planned to add these) and this will be truly impressive.....keep up the great work!! could always try adding a few birds flying in the air and possibly another waterfall cascading down the cliffs in the background...just these little details that could make this even better

Very spectacular....

10 October 2005, 08:43 PM
Wow. That's really nice. I love the lighting, and the concept.

Very well done.

10 October 2005, 11:58 PM
I really like the ambience of your scene.

Good luck!

10 October 2005, 12:31 AM
i really really enjoy teh idea of a lonely tower/mountain!
and the colors are turning out very good!
i like it!
secret cities emerging... :)

10 October 2005, 05:00 AM
It's been a while since I've checked in on your artwork, and I must say, the progress and improvement you have made is awesome! Keep up the good work!

10 October 2005, 06:53 AM
this piece is very nice and pretty.....majestic. i like your ideas on the stained glass....ever consider adding some skeletal remnants of the same glass in what you have now?

10 October 2005, 03:34 AM
Actually Silveraxe, thats a great idea!
Ive been thinking in that direction myself, but instead of a man I picture a woman in trance trying to reach the cathedral while another woman trying to hold her down, looking back pleading for help. It chould be a dramatic and dynamic scene I hope...

hey i'm glad you like it n___n
yeah that's a pretty good idea too! it would be very dramatic and powerful. it would also rid the cathedral from isolation. ;)

I love the update by the way, the rays of light is so beautiful and strong! Makes the cathedral look so Godly.

(sorry for the incredibly late reply, it sucks that you dont get notified when your message is anwered :P )

10 October 2005, 11:24 AM
Awesome progress, great concept and mood:applause:

10 October 2005, 03:38 PM (

Have no clue where Im going with this right now. Maby this is all wrong but when you have the deadline month away you can try every single idea.

I appreciate all crits and comments, Ive got some really good advices and ideas.

10 October 2005, 07:37 PM
Bad ass! I still like the idea of the guy and the horse it seemed more adventurous, but great stuff so far, holla!

10 October 2005, 12:48 PM (

decided to work some with my original ideas with the coloured glass

10 October 2005, 02:47 AM
Wow!!! I really like the detailling on the cathedral. I can't wait to see the final result of your work! Keep up!

10 October 2005, 03:21 AM
Yep, I really like the stained-glass window: perfect amongst the ruin. I like that contrast.

10 October 2005, 03:51 AM
This is looking fantastic. Probably one of my favorites so far. Keep it up!

10 October 2005, 07:12 AM
This looks great! keep it up!

10 October 2005, 02:12 PM
Wow, wonderful work. Loving the scheme and details in the tower. :)
By the way, we share the same name, heh.

10 October 2005, 08:18 AM
Hi! I really like your image! The very good painting! The colored glass turned out wonderful! I think it brighten up the scene! Good luck!

10 October 2005, 10:36 AM
I really like your latest idea, and rendering of the image.
It has a grandeur in the atmosphere.
Just try to blend the character more in the scene, 'cause imho he looks pasted afterwards...

10 October 2005, 05:47 PM
great details! Im just wondering to which level will this go. the window is amazing, hope to see color lights coming out of it in the future..

10 October 2005, 07:29 PM
eerrr... the statue looks good, but not with the rest of the composition, in my opinion.
everything looks even more static, nothing is going on etc... the picture needs some dynamism... even a torn battered plant in the foreground would do it, some weed bent by the breeze, or something like that..

but i still stand behind my previous suggestion: a mysterious guy right in front of the canvas, so close that we can only see the side of his boot and his cape.

i love the stained glass! its lovely and it kinda looks creepy in its own way...

10 October 2005, 03:09 PM
Thanks alot for the encouragement!
To answer a few posts:

ewb513: Good point regarding volume light! Im working on that but I find it hard to make it look realistic

MrFreeman: Ive been laborating with birds, more buildings and such but I think I keep it pretty clean. Will add other details though.

Beelow: Ill maby use the horse but with some other caracters

Evanfotis: It was supposed to be a statue, but its gone now

NinjaASSN: I will try to make this look as realistic as possible. As if its believable in real life.

Silveraxe: Yes youre right, but there will be plenty going on. (just not sure what)

10 October 2005, 07:52 PM
can't wait to see it!! ;)

10 October 2005, 08:21 PM
just saw this entry now, wow! i love it! great angle, great atmosphere, great work!!
the structure looks almost real! great work

10 October 2005, 11:31 PM
yep, nice add of colors to it, the colored glass was a good idea. fantastic work so far, keep on rocking :D

11 November 2005, 01:33 PM (

Decided to have a mossy foreground instead of rocks and water. Some characters will be added when Im done with the ground.

11 November 2005, 04:21 PM
Beautiful atmosphere! I love light and color too very good! Good luck!!

11 November 2005, 05:57 PM
this piece is getting better and better really like everything in it thus far aside the far background. just seems too plain to me. but i am sure you are yet to work on that. just felt the need to point it out :P

good job mate.

11 November 2005, 06:18 AM
So far, I much prefer the puddles/stream in the forground reflecting the sky.

11 November 2005, 11:48 AM (

adding some detail.

11 November 2005, 01:14 PM
This is just beautiful. :applause:

11 November 2005, 05:23 PM
Hm, the mossy cliff in the front looks not half as menacing as the high rocks in the background.

How do those both fit together? What will be the story with the horse and the man (on the sketches) in the end?

sorry, if I'm just asking stupid questions ^^'

11 November 2005, 06:07 PM
I love your concept.... amazing, the details and the background... all  good luck...

11 November 2005, 08:01 PM
Beautiful piece dude, nothing to say as of now but Beatiful!

11 November 2005, 07:09 AM
Wow, you nailed the "spectacular" concept. Great work.

11 November 2005, 09:49 AM
Amazing lighting

:applause: :buttrock:

11 November 2005, 11:40 AM
Hi Norberg

Super work and lighting, a human character in the foreground would be nice
look forward to the finished art.

11 November 2005, 05:16 PM
Wow, that came out just lovely. I know you're still going to add more in the foreground, but is the background done? (it sure looks it!) Nice work.

11 November 2005, 09:14 AM (

Zeitwolf: I want the foreground to break off from all the rocks in the bg. But youre right, it need to get more interesting. Hopefully the stairs will help.

Patina: There will be a human character.

Walrus: I might add some detail in the background but no bigger additions.

Thanks for your comments

11 November 2005, 03:23 PM (

closeup on the stairs

11 November 2005, 06:06 PM
I love the stairs! The moss looks very realistic :)

looking good, keep it up! ;)

11 November 2005, 04:02 PM (

So, Im done with the environment.
Now remains to add some characters. Dont know what story to tell yet but I guess it will come to me if I give this project some rest.

Thanks alot for all support and help this far.

trying some poses for the characters.
they are hypnotized by the cathedral.

11 November 2005, 12:56 PM
Great idea Norberg! add this female character give a more drama feeling for me.keep it up!

11 November 2005, 01:35 PM (

adding the basic colors.
Not sure if I will keep the right girl.

11 November 2005, 02:17 PM
Hi! Your "Final Coloring: cathedral" from 9 November looks very great! The really excellent atmosphere! But I don't understand where the stairs are leading. Now it looks like the stairs are leading us away from the cathedral. I think, maybe you should try to show the staircase winding between the cliffs. I wish you good luck and success! :)

11 November 2005, 03:14 PM
Interesting point that atris made maybe go with that if it is not too late, looking great!

11 November 2005, 03:31 PM
Atris, beelow, thanks for your comments!

You make a good point Atris that I for sure will consider.
However, the story that I have in mind for this image is that this will take place sometimes in the future. The world as we know it is gone, and the only intact building that remains is this cathedral (well atleast in this area). The people are entranced by it and since there is no way to reach it people are going mad.
Thats why I hesitate to put stairs windling through the mountains closer to the cathedral.

But hey, I could allways change the story some to get a better pic. Theres still plenty of time so who knows.

11 November 2005, 03:42 PM
that's a good story and the painting looks great so far.
Maybe you could only indicate the stairs or at least give us a hint
that there was a bridge which is destroyed now, or somwthing else.
greetings and good luck

11 November 2005, 03:53 PM
Great work, Bjorn. I'm glad you added the women. They look great.

11 November 2005, 09:32 AM (

trying the composition with only one of the women rendered. The foreground is too plain as it is now so I need to do something about that. Will add some highlights where the colored rays hits the ground as well.

11 November 2005, 02:22 PM
I love so your cathedral that I think there is just one thing to do with ypour foreground. Just cut it off, supress it. Continue your mountains going to a darker side to simulate a big hole. ANd we'll concentrate on the cathedral.

11 November 2005, 02:26 PM (

So I took Atris advice (it has been mentioned earlier in the thread as well) and added some more stairs, and I think it just might work. Just need to make them fit the mountains.
Allso some colorcorrections on the girl.
Thank you for all good advice!

11 November 2005, 03:44 PM
Interesting to see what you do next!

11 November 2005, 04:05 PM
Hi! These stairs turned out very good! I really like! And this break in the stairs agitates imagination! That's cool! :) And I like your girl very much too! Keep it up! Good luck! :)

11 November 2005, 04:08 PM (

A few changes on the stairs and light.
Allso working with details that probably doesnt show in this res.

regarding cutting the foreground off. I tried that at an earlier stage but I the foreground helps me telling the story so I kept it.

11 November 2005, 12:08 PM (

detail of the stairs.
Some moss had to give room for stone to better fit the surrounding. I allso flipped the canvas and cropped some of the lower part away.

11 November 2005, 04:31 PM (

So Im allmost done!
however Ill wait to post the final + background story to keep it open for further updates.

Any suggestions to improve this pic are welcome. There are still plenty of time!
Thanks for looking.

Spectacular picture Norberg :buttrock:

May I suggest a few birds, circling the Cathdral. I'm not sure if it will look better, but it might give the cathdral some sense of scale. Yet again excellent picture.

11 November 2005, 05:39 PM
Very cool. One of my favorite 2D spectaculars.

11 November 2005, 07:57 PM
It turned out very well, as we all expected I asume :) Great style and everything, but I still have some suggestions. That sunrays that r coming towards us, could be a bit more blured, will work better I think, and this lights should be shown as well on the rocks where the girl is. I see u did some lighting work there, but a bit more I think it wouldnt hurt. Thas all from me. great pic once again!

11 November 2005, 08:42 PM
Hi man. I've been watchin' u. I agree with eggs about the birds. The whole illustration feels like it's still missing something, feels somewhat empty. But yet, it already looks so good. Perhaps some more details on the girl could help like, I dunno, textures on the clothes or something... Just for us to get a hint of where she came from and why she seems so desperate to reach the cathedral. Maybe she's kinda burdened by some sin she commited or something like that... By the way, what's the story anyway?

11 November 2005, 01:16 AM
Coning along nicely, good stuff so far, good luck mate!

11 November 2005, 02:47 AM
Looking beautiful so far and a wonderful progression of paintings you have shown. I would like to see the girl in the forground lit a bit more.

11 November 2005, 05:25 AM
Really beautiful picture. Very atmospheric.
Only suggestion I have would be to perhaps put more high frequency texture on the rocks, they are very nicely rendered but perhaps a bit too smooth.
Lots of emotion in this picture. Well done and good luck.

11 November 2005, 06:05 AM
Nice composition. lovely colours. Nicely done

11 November 2005, 08:55 AM
Literally, this is breathtaking!!!

11 November 2005, 09:48 AM
Such a wonderful painting the details in the old church is awsome. My first impression of what's going on is...something like... the resurection of religion to a future woman or some ancient place's power is being called on by the woman.

I'd like to add some constructive input. The light that hits the cliff with the stairs seems to brite as if the stone is a very light color, even more so with the neighboring cliff the light is to brite. You can really see what I mean if you squint your eye's, the two lite cliffs look almost briter than the light comming from the clouds. That's just my opion of course.

11 November 2005, 01:37 PM
Ohh... I like the mystery! The church being either heavenly or menacing ;) The girl needs to be spot lit to stand from the dark foreground.

11 November 2005, 01:53 PM
Great work! Now I like it more, with women it looks better, and new bricks ground looks great. :applause:

11 November 2005, 04:01 PM
Damn you! here I was thinking this piece was allmost done..
No, I really appreciate. as I said, thers still plenty of time

Eggs: Thank you, birds might add to this pic. The problem is that they would just be tiny dots if they were to circle the cathedral. I will give it a try though.

Novacine: Thanks alot! Just hit me when I looked at your entry that theres allso a 3D-section. must look further inti that.

NinjaASSN: Regarding the rays, I was afraid to blurr them too much and maby they seem crisper in low res. But when you mention it I see I have to do something about them. Maby lower the opacity in the edges? Ill have to try something...
And the stairs in the foreground... They was supposed to be shadowed by the cathedral only letting the rays from the stained window lit it. Evidently I havent achieved to portrait that so that need some more work too.
Thanks for your comment!

ahbeejieh: Thanks, will try to figure out a way to help telling the story.

Beelow: Thanks man, Good luck to you too!

WilliamWonka: Thank you. Will give the girl a more distinct lighting. As she is now its hard to tell where the light is coming from. I see that now

SquishMe: Im not sure i have the energy to work more on the rocks. Thanks alot anyway.

Voytek, Pat Piper: Thank You guys!

tAsty BITs: Youre absolutly right! I changed the mountains as soon as I read your post. Thanks alot!

Rawwad: Thank you, the moss didnt really work as I hoped.

11 November 2005, 04:16 PM (

A few of the suggestions you made. Repainted the girl with a more direct light, lower the intencity on the mountains to the right and som more detailing on the foreground.
Still a few things to do but Im getting closer.

11 November 2005, 04:49 PM
Really great work, environment is very pleasant.
good luck

11 November 2005, 06:32 AM
Nice... this is really breathtaking!

Only thing I could think of that you could add is some textures to the rocks - especially the ones hit by the light on the right hand side (with the stairs). They're look a bit too smooth.

Otherwise, this is one of my favourite pieces I've seen here... Good luck!

11 November 2005, 04:30 PM (

some more detail on the girl and stairs.
The carvings in the stone is the same pattern as the stained glasswindow

11 November 2005, 10:23 AM (

So this is my last update. some adjustments on rays and light. Decided to keep the foreground pretty dark so it wouldnt draw to much atention from the cathedral.
Thanks alot for all constructive crits and encouragement!
Will post the final as soon as I manage to write an understandable story to this.

11 November 2005, 10:43 AM
I like your concept.

Do you have any background story perhaps on why the girl is there?

Good job so far. Good luck.

11 November 2005, 11:08 AM
great piece ,the atomosphere is really good, and strong focous on the church, cool concept,I am waiting for your final story dude, cheers:)

11 November 2005, 03:39 PM
This really is a fantastic piece, Bjorn. I just love everything about it. The details of the moss and the pattern on the dress are wonderful. There is such a great mood to this. Congratulations on finishing this.

12 December 2005, 11:59 AM
Great atmosphere. I think it is really spectacular. Good luck.

12 December 2005, 01:15 PM (

It stands there on a singel pillar of rock, a witness of an ancient sivilization.
They are all brought up with the storys about its great power. They dont know where it comes from but there are myths about a fantastic world with machines and large cities with buildings reaching up to the sky.
They fear it, they long for it, they worship it.
Many have tried to reach it but no one has succeed.

On a few rare occations when the sun breaks through the ever grey sky it lights up in bright colors as an answer to thir prairs.

This image portrait the surrender of a young female on such a moment.

Thanks again for all support!

12 December 2005, 02:43 PM
