Hi guys,

Here is my first idea; I have always thought the shark was a terrific predator, beautiful, powerful and spectacular animal. So here is a snapshot of a tragic “spectacular” accident which everyone will keep in mind during the rest of the days …

Let me know waht you think ;)

good luck to everyone i ' ll make this challenge to improve my texturing skill! i don't know yet if i 'll make it in max or maya but there will zbrush for sure !

09-07-2005, 03:46 PM
Looks promising. What's the accident? Does the shark attack a boat? I look forward to more!

09-07-2005, 03:49 PM
actually it's a surfer go out of the "tube" ! surpise  a shark wait him

09-07-2005, 03:54 PM
Very happy to see you on board :bounce: :bounce:

Best whishes for you

09-07-2005, 06:03 PM

09-07-2005, 10:16 PM

09-07-2005, 10:55 PM
Correct idea you have! Sharks are fearsome and their actions are impressive and spectacular:-)

Water and wet surfaces could be also fine ones!
Keep it comin mate! See ya next time.

09-08-2005, 05:20 AM
Looks like a fun concept to take on. Looking quite good there.

09-08-2005, 08:19 AM
very powefull idea Nicola, good luck !

09-08-2005, 08:25 AM
Very nice idea, this should work well!

09-08-2005, 09:25 AM
Hi Colings, nice to see you in this new challenge, i wish you good luck !

The shark idea is really cool, i'm looking forward !

09-08-2005, 10:18 AM
Well idea Nico... just one thing, perhaps that will be better to have a human presence in your scene (not so much required, only to know this human presence... or just a human shadow if you prefer)... to increase the impact and emotion. I'm ask me the question about if this front part of boat will be sufficiant... decision is yours...

...best wishes and good work

09-08-2005, 10:33 AM
thank you guys for your suppot !

Lemog: i'll model a surfer and we could see his reflection in the water! Otherwise i can change a bit the camera angle and model an other guys sit on his board in the background watching the scene ... It's a first person shot so that why you see only the end of the surf board ;)

If you have some suggestion for the "camera frame" don't hesitate to tell me ;)

thanks again guys

09-08-2005, 10:38 AM

09-11-2005, 05:08 PM

waouw good concept, and i'm sure an another surfer on background can help to understand....
Nice start for the modeling... i'm waiting to see more...:)

Bonne chance pour le concours!! Liège Powaaaa!!

09-11-2005, 05:12 PM
This is the classic shark. Very difficult the sea.
Good luck

09-11-2005, 05:20 PM
hey nice modeing of the mouth of that shark...good work:thumbsup:

09-11-2005, 09:01 PM
Hello nico !
I like your concept ! :) the modelisation left well ! :applause:

keep up the good work ;)

09-11-2005, 10:05 PM
i'm sure an another surfer on background can help to understand....
Good point!

Otherwise, the shark is shaping up great. The teeth will be fun :D Incidently, there's no other feature that can spice up a model quite like a good set of teeth, so even though it's a bit tedious, it certainly pays off.

09-11-2005, 10:34 PM
Oh , its a good begin .also nice lip .

09-12-2005, 12:10 AM
I am interested in how, you are going to pull off the water effect, good luck to, I'll check back lata!

09-12-2005, 06:20 AM

Thank you guys for your comment :)

i'm sure an another surfer on background can help to understand..../QUOTE]

you're right, i think that too

[QUOTE=SuperXCM]Bonne chance pour le concours!! Liège Powaaaa!!

merci toi aussi

take care which he doesn't have too nice as in the "gang de requin"

aucune chance que ca arrive :D

09-13-2005, 01:12 AM
I like the concept. The model is starting to look like a pretty mean shark. I think it would add drama to the sceen if you had the shark visible through the water, coming out of the wave, but only his teeth have fully come out of the water yet. And maybe you could do more of a side shot with the shark coming out of the wave from the surfer's right. I can't wait to see how this turns out!

09-13-2005, 02:16 AM
Hi, good start. I liked also the shark, you'll go to modeling in Zbrush? Post later the modeling process this model. Good luck

09-13-2005, 02:27 AM
Oh , coooool progress .very good .

09-13-2005, 07:46 AM
Nice work so far have fun with the teeth 3 rows is alote of teeth.

09-13-2005, 11:28 AM
thank you guys ;)

09-13-2005, 11:51 AM
Cool modeling nico !

Nothing to crit for the moment, i can't wait for the big Teeth !

It will be a cool picture for sure ! Allez !

09-13-2005, 01:14 PM
it's a good start its sure !! the shark will be great if its begin like that !
just one thing on the eye, he maybe demand more work on arcade (but i know this is just a start). like this -> http://www.poc.it/stories/desktop/desk_1024/shark1024.jpg
l'arcade est plus creusé sous l'oeil et elle ressort plus au dessus, ca renforce un peu le regard psychopate :p

keep it up good job !

09-13-2005, 01:22 PM
J'avais pas vu ce post encore, comment ça se fait ?
Bon début de modélisation Nicolas ! continue !

Why didn't I see this post before ? Great start on modeling Nicolas, keep going on !

09-14-2005, 03:11 PM
Hey Nico :)

The shark looks very nice for the moment, no crits about the modeling :)
But i don't like a lot the concept, i think an underwater scene should be more spectacular.
Just my opinion ;)

modeling session #4

et salut nico! ok merci pour ton commentaire ;)

09-16-2005, 12:11 AM
That would be jsut about the worst thing that could ever happen while catching a sweet wave like that.

Great shark model so far, keep goin'!

Goodluck with the water...man that's gonna be tough to get lookin' good, but after you do, you'll be a pro at making waves :)

09-16-2005, 08:00 AM
Keep it up, I'll be back my friend

here is a second idea! may be more dynamic and more spectaclar!

Shark attack !!!

Let's me know what you think please ;)

thanks Rye and Thierry :)

09-22-2005, 05:45 PM
Hi, cool Idea, I like it.

09-22-2005, 07:40 PM
hey nice progress. very big mouth.

PD: i know you know, and seen that line in the half of the model, don't forget fix that with the symetry or any method that you are using to do this model.

09-22-2005, 08:11 PM
Update of your shark is very good mate...

Ive just thinking about your second concept... but finally... I prefer the first one... the spectacular rapport between human/shark is more present. But the final choice is yours :bounce:

09-24-2005, 08:58 AM
Hum, this will be a bloody scene! It's a change so good luck man; By the way your avatar is too cool, nice model.
HAve a good week-end Nicolas! :)

09-24-2005, 10:49 AM
Nice concept. its a realy difficult shoot to become real, and you will have a lots of big challenge on this. good luck

09-24-2005, 03:27 PM

09-26-2005, 03:59 PM
Nice shark, but, um... don't they have gills on the outside too?

09-26-2005, 04:51 PM
Ahh, glad to see an update :)

The sharks body seems a bit rigid and a bit small.

Here is a ref for you :

keep posting mate ;)

09-26-2005, 06:00 PM
ChrisThatGuy:: yes but i 'll make it in zbrush ;)

Goul:: thanks for the ref Goul, i'll fix it for the next update

09-27-2005, 01:59 AM
The head of the shark is great but the rest of the body is out of proportion. I don't know what kind of reference material you have but if you need a side view of a Great White let me know, I have one I can dig out for you.

Modeling teeth shark!

09-27-2005, 04:04 PM
SNoWs:: Thank you for the refs it's really helpful

I'll put some randomness to the teeth when i 'll colapse the symetry !

09-27-2005, 04:17 PM
Yeah.... des détails mordant maintenant... :scream:  bonne continuation gars...

09-27-2005, 05:38 PM
T'as été avare sur les dents ;)

A shark jaws has more than 300 teeth, ;)

And look at this :

The teeth of the bottom jaw are different than the teeth of the top jaw, and have nearly the same size

09-27-2005, 06:19 PM
SNoWs:: Thank you for the refs it's really helpful

I'll put some randomness to the teeth when i 'll colapse the symetry !

not a problem man:thumbsup:

Looking forward more updates.

09-27-2005, 06:32 PM
Wow, that shark is looking very cool. I would suggest that you give the teeth some more personality though. Maybe give them some curvature? Also maybe they are too flat right now.

09-27-2005, 10:41 PM
-at this time, the teeth are just a simple cone! i don't work on it yet. I'll put all the details in zbrush!

-d'après cette ref là (ma ref principale que j'ai utilisé pour modéliser la tête) J'ai pas l'impression qu'il y a autant de dents que tu le dis sur la partir inférieur de la machoire...
But ok i gonna add some more teeth

09-28-2005, 06:57 AM
teeth or not teeh, this is the problem... :scream:
Looks very nice with this open mounth... I like it ! And I'm sure viewing your shark with thexture will change our perception on the actual model.

Updates- Modeling + posing test !
i made also a quick sketch to light my idea.

09-28-2005, 04:18 PM
The shark is looking a hell of a lot better:thumbsup: but I gotta tell you that I don't particularly feel is all that "Spectacular". IMO needs something else... like have a SCUBA diver hanging bar coming from the boat and a couple of divers making their safety stop... one of them notice the shark the other one dosn't... THAT would be a spectacular shot, one that would take my breath away.

Just my opinion tho. Keep going!

09-28-2005, 04:54 PM
Really great work on the modeling Nicolas as usual.

He's already alive even without you zbrushing touch
I'm very glad following this.

Keep up the great work no crit from me only support :bounce: :bounce:

09-28-2005, 08:40 PM
Goul:: thanks dude !
ar LutiK:: ok i'll fix that in the next update ;)

09-28-2005, 10:51 PM

Imagine a future without dry land. A future where the earth is covered in water. The inhabitants of this once-flourishing planet cling to life on incredible floating cities, their existence constantly threatened by predators. The sharks is become the first link of the food chaine and nurtured their babys of human being.

The shark mother brings in her mouth some humans being for its babys.
In the foreground, there is a skull and an arm bones.
In the background the rocks form a big disturbing mouth.

Zapan, Goul:: thank you guys!

I create the displacement map but i don't know how i can apply it to my model in maya! So i learn and i'll post it as soon as possible ;)
I don't create the shader yet !

10-05-2005, 07:07 PM
this is everytime getting better and better, great update mate,, that shark is very cool:thumbsup:

10-05-2005, 07:18 PM
Hi Nicolas, the both model and the textures i really think so good :applause:. No critic so far

10-05-2005, 07:28 PM
I think the red inside of the jaws is a bit oversaturated, i've never been in the jaws of a great white, but i think it's pink on the jaws and grey/white inside.

keep it up ;)

i've started to model the skull which we'll see on the foreground!

10-09-2005, 08:27 AM
Hey Nico

Cool modeling on that skull ,
one tiny crit : border of the nose cavity and the back of the cheek bone seem very thin to me.
(pas facile en anglais, en gros la cavité nasale et l'arriere de l'os des paumettes ont des bords the fins, ca me fait un peu bizarre.)

Keep up the great work Man :bounce:
