09 September 2005, 03:45 AM
hi everybody,
my first internet challenge , the concept sketch will come soon
for sure we`ll have lot of fun with this amaizing topics

sorry for my english..........

09 September 2005, 03:57 AM

here it is , my concept for the challemge, it`s really the first idea witch came to me and i need still to develop it, i like the camera angle and the dinamic of the picture.
a man who`s jumping from a buildind for catctch something, the camera angle will be from the ground to the sky with a accentuate perspective.
Now , i`m still thinking about the reason why this character Benji Jump from this building...
- maybe the building is on fire, the fire man can`t go there because it`s too hight so the man has to jump for catch a extinguisher...
- just the character has a cigarette and want to light it with match witch are on the street
-still thinking for other idea[url=""] (

09 September 2005, 07:22 AM
i get now a second idea witch will permit me to play with the color and the lighting:

-a old poor fisherman on a old little wood boat is fighting for catch a giant scary fish,on the final picture we will see both up and under the sea , the giant fish arrive and the old man fighting for try to get this SPECTACULAR catch... but he still doesn`t see this fish and ignore that this fish is soo big and dangerous...he`s fighting and he`s obstinate to get his own dead...

i quite like this idea, but the first one also , i`ll think about this tonight and make my choice for tomorrow for begin the modeling as soon as possible...

09 September 2005, 08:08 AM
cool idea, the camera angle is indeed very nice!
perhaps let him jump after somthing he dropped, and is able to grab it just before impact...
dunno what really :p or he steals candy from a kid that just passes :)
you'll figure something out! good luck :)

09 September 2005, 08:39 AM
thank you , i like your idea of the candy witch can be steal from the hand of a child who just pass in the street , i`ll decide for tomorrow if i chose this or my fisherman idea.....

09 September 2005, 03:41 AM (

after a long brainstorming all night long yesterday i decide to chose my idea of the fisherman and the spectacular fish , this concept will permit me to play with the lighting and the environment much more than my first idea and i really like the subject, now let`s the modeling begin!!!!

09 September 2005, 04:34 AM (

here is the reference picture i`ll use for the concept of the giant fish/sea snake, for sur it`ll have the looking of one of these ugly and strange fish we can find in a deep deep ocean

09 September 2005, 04:42 AM
I like your idea, and your going for one ugly fish.

really cool perspective you got there to, gonna keep an eye on you.

09 September 2005, 05:06 AM
I like the concept comp you have. It would look gret if the fish is have emerged from the water so we see the details on its face as well. Neat idea!

09 September 2005, 05:33 AM
Yeh, one ugly scary fish dude.Nice idea.

09 September 2005, 06:14 AM
i was thinking also about show the head of the fish out of the water but also i like the idea that the man still don`t know that this fish is so big and dangerous but i`ll light the scene for we can see the head clearly:bounce:
i can`t wait , tonight i draw the fish and begin the mod!

09 September 2005, 06:33 AM
nice concept...hard modeling i think...good luck

09 September 2005, 10:42 AM
yes, the new idea is better !

09 September 2005, 04:00 AM (

my drawing for the composition and the general shape of the fisherman, i want to give him a weak looking for put him in a situation really desesperate

09 September 2005, 04:12 AM (

here it is my scary fish, i`ll mix between the the fish we can find in the deep ocean, a sea snakke and a little of alien head...

09 September 2005, 06:37 AM
nice scary fish!! seem very mad :)

09 September 2005, 02:26 PM
nice sketch of that fish, i would like to see how this turns out in the modeling phase, im looking to do a scary looking fish too.. im hoping to see this before i model mine.. nice sketch.

09 September 2005, 03:02 AM (

here it is the first modelisation step of my fish, really basic right now , will add lot of mod details...

09 September 2005, 03:12 AM
cool idea i think it'll be great if you can capture the oblivious look on the fisherman's face completely unaware of the monsterous fish.

09 September 2005, 03:19 AM is the reference picture i`ll use for the concept of the giant fish/sea snake, for sur it`ll have the looking of one of these ugly and strange fish we can find in a deep deep ocean

Hahahahaha!... I was using some of those exact same pictures for my reference too! :D

09 September 2005, 03:20 AM
i`m still not sure about the face design for the fisherman , i want it be fine and look weak but i decide to begin by the ugly fish  and see later for the fisherman, sketch of his head will come soon

09 September 2005, 02:52 PM (

fish mod, i mod the general shape of the fish, now lets add some details to this guys!

09 September 2005, 06:32 PM
I like your concept, reminds me a little bit of Hemingway's "The old man and the sea".
Your fish looks already spectacular. I'm looking forward to your next update!

09 September 2005, 01:04 PM
I like you concept sketch where fish spans under the boat and her tail stands behind fishermans back,so the guy has no idea what is he up against.
really cool, and that exact fish is probabaly one of the best for modeling.
Keep strong pal. :)

09 September 2005, 01:21 PM
Pretty scary fish.Nice pose for the fish aswell.

09 September 2005, 01:29 PM
so nice and strong .:D

09 September 2005, 01:37 PM
Love the fish, menacing but still natural/earthly looking.

Going to have the angler part glow or leave it as is? Would be interesting if it let out a patter of like to similuate a school of fish or something.. which attracted the poor unsuspecting fisherman.

09 September 2005, 02:39 PM
I like you Fish ,It seems to be so dangaruos to me,

09 September 2005, 02:51 PM

Now that is a lot of teeth.
Yep, wouldn't wan't to meet that one while swimming. That's one ugly fish kingfish3d, and I mean that as a compliment of course ;). Great work! :buttrock: I'm looking forward to the displacement in z brush.

09 September 2005, 01:47 PM (

a shader test before the displacement map because i`ve some difficulties with z brush and export this map but i keep on fighting!i`ll try tomorrow again...

09 September 2005, 01:57 PM
Your monsterfish looks pretty wicked with textures.

09 September 2005, 02:14 PM
i just play little with the mental ray shader, i`m i beginner with this rendering software , there isn`t any texture just the shader and color and some change in photoshop.

09 September 2005, 03:12 PM (

new try for a shader with mental ray

09 September 2005, 02:00 PM (

here is my fish with his shader and some displacement map, , stille have to had a diffuse, bump and specular texture but i`m already quite happy with this result, now my big concert is to make feel on the picture that it`s under the ocean...working on it for the next update

09 September 2005, 02:16 PM

09 September 2005, 07:37 PM
Your fish is simply spectacular, awesome modeling

09 September 2005, 07:46 PM
This is looking really great! Cool fish, nice start on the textures, pretty dynamic pose and I must congratulate you on the compostion of the last render, it's quite beautiful.

09 September 2005, 09:20 AM (

09 September 2005, 09:35 AM (

09 September 2005, 10:54 AM
That fish is looking awesome-exellent textures ,they work perfectly.Keep it up dude.

10 October 2005, 02:17 AM
Gunilla,Maxter,madshooter : thank you!!:)

SONIC-X : thank you for interest om my work!:bounce:

10 October 2005, 03:34 AM
I'm glad you picked your second concept. Ironically I watched Futurama last night and they played the "Lost city of Atlanta" episode. Bender caught a giant fish which dragged Planet Express down to the ocean... shame Futurama didn't last another season or two...

ok, now a meaningfull critique...

The jaw bothers me a bit. It looks like it would move like a pressure wrench (up and down) instead of like a hinge, maybe making the end of the mouth less rounded would help.

10 October 2005, 04:22 AM
i agree with you for the mouth, i think it come that i just group everyelemnet of the fish and blend everything for get this position, in the finla composition i`ll move everything separatly and it`ll give an better effect to the fish face,
thanks for your advice and comment man

10 October 2005, 10:44 AM (

i begin the modeling of the little boat, just for see, i put the fish and the beginning of my boat on the composition , lot of work on the water for the waves and the lighting...

10 October 2005, 12:27 PM
Hey, that looks a very interesting image and a cool beat! Nice wet shader, but i think you you should put some water over the fish cuz it makes a weird perspective now, anyway you talked about it so i think you gotta work on it then..

good luck ,im looking forward !

10 October 2005, 04:18 PM
Damn, scary stuff. Nightmare material.

10 October 2005, 05:54 PM
hi kingfish 3d.
if you whant you could do a viking saga out of this, when tor tryed to catch the midgard snake, whith a giant called hymer.
9 years ago i did a sculptur in fimo ((for kids) so its a little bit carton), for a viking museum in sweden, and i think your master piece could do great to expres the story better than i did that time.
here is the story and the old picture of my sculpting.
(if you dident like the thing, sorry youst tell me and i remove the post)
the story...
one day is Tor travelling to the giants land. there he meet the giant Hymer, that challange Tor on a fishingchallange. Tor accept but wondering what he shall use for bait. The giant answer tat he must fixed that him self. Tor are then wandering out to the enclosed pasture of the giant with his bullock and there he is chosen the best of them all, Himinjod, takes the bullocks head to bait.

After a while the giant went worried and said that they were on the Midgardssnakes water. When tor stopped the boat and start to fichm, the giant went even more worried.

They took Hymers boat and off they went. Tor throw out the anchor with the head and hold the anchorrope. then it started to bite, he dragged in the catch and it was the Midgardssnake himself. Tor pulled and toke some support against the boats floor*but his foot went right trough.
After a while*Tor finally got the Midgårdssnake to the surface, he took his hammer Mjölner to brake the snakes head. Then the terrifaid giant cut the anchorrope. Midgardssnake went back to the deep sea and Tor went so mad, he hit Hymer so hard that he fell overboard. Now Hymer had to swim the whole way back to Jotunheim, where the giants live
the sculpture i did for the story..

tor o hymer (

see you and great work and

10 October 2005, 06:47 PM

Dvelasco : thanks man

Alex.h. : wouaw, nice story and it can be a nice background for my picture, i`ll still keeping my original idea of my weak fisher man , i really want make feel the danger for the character , but keep your story in mind if i don`t find a good character design for my fisherman.
also nice sculpture  and thank for your comnents

Gus_glifton : thank you, i really like his work, i spend lot of time on the lighting and texturing for this beast, now my main concern is to get the same style for the boat and the fisherman......

10 October 2005, 10:33 PM
I have been through your thread a few times and never really commented, but I must say this is coming togoether exceptionally well!

The lighting on the boat is fantastic! The fish is absolutely wonderful...

Jeez I have a long ways to go!

10 October 2005, 07:09 AM
Sonic-X, alex.h. : thank you man

Nomad : thanks :) , i`ll do some little change on the texture but still don`t know if i will add some clear scale , i want to give slimy looking to the fish and i`m affraid that the scale will not give this effect

10 October 2005, 08:47 AM
Gaetan, last time I saw your fish i tought he was just to cool, and your concept was simple but great, especially the camera angle but now that I see the boat and how spooky you are going, I'm just loving it more and more, this is a super cool image, really one of my favorite, the mood is going to be stunning

what a great concept you have here! very original to do these deep sea fish on the surface. I've always loved those crazy fish. I really like the modelling of the fish-it looks scary and fantastic! and I prefer the composition2 could even make the boat a tiny bit smaller perhaps, but it's all good! look forward to more.

10 October 2005, 11:16 PM

10 October 2005, 06:28 AM
That's really great ....really....but i think it will be even cooler if you could make the picture so that you can see the surface of the water....and on the surface place a boat.So that the picture suggests that the seamonster is after the boat.

Just a thought...

10 October 2005, 06:54 AM
I don't know what's scarier - the fact that I haven't seen your thread until now or the scene you are making! I've been missing the action! Excellent work and I can't even describe how cool looking this is becoming! I LOVE the detail work. I also LOVE the composition. Don't blow it with a crappy fisherman model ;) Just joking!

10 October 2005, 08:46 AM
Looks really great now ! clean cool work !

10 October 2005, 09:43 AM
Xin chaooooooooo :D

10 October 2005, 07:37 AM
MD.Tangir : thanks man :) , for the glossiness on the boat i`ll do some little change but i`m already quite happy with this result, it`ll be on the water so i need this wet effect...

SONIX-X : thank you!!!

Neeno : yes little by little i try to bring the differents elemts of the composition and to fix them so they can have the same style than the other, thank you

Shakes : thank you , i`ll do a test with a tiner boat , me to it`s a long time that i wanted to do this kind of deep fish :)

Jaba 153 : thank you :)

Madlight_1988 : thank you:)

dawinky : thanks a lot:)

Grrrrrrr : thanks, just have a look at the beginning of my thread and you`ll see that in the final picture the boat will be on the water and the fish is after it :)

gardogg : thanks man, i`ll try to do my best for the fisherman, stitt thinking about his looking, i think about some old and weak fisher man with old and dirty cloth ....

gpepper : thanksss :)

10 October 2005, 11:58 AM
Great model and great mood! Should look very nice in the end. All my best for the next updates:thumbsup:

those 2 last updates are totally amazing,Very good....and you are finishind the challenge:eek:
Good Luck pal:thumbsup:

10 October 2005, 10:26 AM (

i didn`t have much time for work on tis picture but now it`ll be better , so here it is only a little test of the composition, still lot of work on the water and the sky and then begin the mod of this poor fisherman see you next time for a bigger updat

11 November 2005, 03:38 PM
Really cool stuff, this... if not IMPRESSIVE :D
The water does need some work, though. The waves appear a little to big. If they should be of that size, then make them rougher. All in all I think the water is too pool-like. Should be more of a stormy sea imho...

Good luck... this definetely has chances IMHO

11 November 2005, 09:10 PM
yeeeow! this is such a dramatic image! love the composition and lighting..very scary stuff! top work (

11 November 2005, 04:22 AM
thank you , i agree with you for the water, i`m working on it, big waves will looks much better , i`ll add also some detail on the water like seaweath and some rock ....
:) :)

11 November 2005, 08:39 AM
Good idea! I really like it but I agree with Grrrrrrr; maybe you can work on the water surface to make it more realistic. I like the general feeling of your work!

11 November 2005, 01:08 PM
Gaetan, very good compo, waiting updates.

And good luck

11 November 2005, 01:53 PM
jajajajajajaaj...poor guy...he doesn't knows what is waiting for him...excellent work:thumbsup:

11 November 2005, 04:53 PM
A very dramatic composition indeed:thumbsup: , I like your awesome fish...good modeling. And the lighting and mood is great:) ...I'm curious to see the poor fisherman now...:bounce:

11 November 2005, 05:08 AM
tanks for your nice comment , after a little breack i`m back in the challenge:)

here it is a little update of the underwater part of my picture, i add some bubble and seaweed, played little bit also with the contrast, the final result of this part is almost done now

11 November 2005, 09:30 AM
Nice work, you did beautiful job on texturing and lighting...maybe the picture with the big fish has too much noise on it, that's all.
Keep it up!

11 November 2005, 01:25 PM

The fisherman is awesomely done.

Great work.

11 November 2005, 06:35 PM
great update! that head is sensational- really fantastic expression, funny stuff! and great textures. as for the underwater image-love it already, but are those light rays a tiny bit strong?

11 November 2005, 06:47 PM
looks cool!

11 November 2005, 10:53 PM
This is looking awesome. I'm not sure about the plants though. I think it takes away from the size of the fish. I thought it was pretty close to perfect before the plants. Just a giant fish coming out of the darkness, to a tiny boat. Its up to you of course. Just a thought.

11 November 2005, 09:57 AM
agou : thank you, for the noise , i thought that for this part i need this noise because it`s underwater and the noise give the effect, particule and all the little stull in the water, mybe it`ll look better in the full composition

SONIC-X : thanks man, i was taking a little breack for a while but i`m back for finish it!!!

eddieellis : yeah i think so

shakes :i agree with you for the light ray, will reduce it a bit, thank you for the advice

(o)ne : thank you

detached : i`ll see, just i wanted to add some element at the front for give more persperctive to my picture , with the full composition we`ll keep the effect of ``giant`` monster cause of the size difference between the boat and the fish, anyway thanks for your advice man:cool:

work in progress of the compositing

12 December 2005, 12:04 PM (

next update for my compositing, add some rain, sky little darker, and splash on the water, have still to work on the tree

12 December 2005, 01:39 PM
gaetan ..this is comin very well suggestion is maybe the size of the image is too big.. i think u don't need so much sky maybe the half of that sky is enuff it can give more importance on that crazy huge fish...maybe but more darker the sky... in any case great work so far..u almost done! cheers jaba

12 December 2005, 03:35 PM
thank for your comment, i let the sky big for let some empty space in the picture, without this there is too much information everywhere and i lost some lisibility in the picture , for darker the sky you`re right i`m doing this and add some detail on it and on the trees
thank you and good luck for the result:thumbsup:

12 December 2005, 05:29 PM (

here it is the final picture, tell the story of a old and weak fisherman desesperate and is ready to do everything for getting some food, in went in a dangerous place for get some food but never expect such kind of meeting, i get something intersting on the line, it looks big so it mean lot of food for him but what he doesn`t know it`s that his catch will not bring him food but just his death....

12 December 2005, 05:31 PM
i finally with you:)
thank for the advice jaba:thumbsup:
looks better like tis i think

Hi. I love the mood of your pict:thumbsup: For me everything is ok except the trees on background... I'm not a big fan of them but they help the picture to have this kind of mood.

So forget all I've said about your trees, they are perfect :)
