This is a concept for the challenge. The Idea behind this image is actually the finally to a series of on going stories I have thought up. This is more of a 'possible ending'. The story is of the government that is taken over by a corporation. This sends shockwaves of poverty and violence to the lower class citizens. A divide is created and small bands of rebels are formed to fight. The bands range from freedom fighters to terrorist to common thugs. Now to jump years ahead to this image. The country is returned to the people by a group lead by (a man with no name right now cause that is not important.). This image is the man showing his son the city that many have died to regain its freedom. Planting the responciblity on his son to maintain the peace less we all lose it again,

this is a concept only just to get my tablet warm. I will probly change the horizon to make the image more majestic. I have ideas for certain elements i want to show in the land/cityscape
09 September 2005, 03:31 AM
Yeah I was just getting my tablet ready earlier, I will have to post my stuff soon!
09 September 2005, 11:39 PM
developing this sketch even tho i know it wont be final
09 September 2005, 12:16 AM
Nice, strong composition and interesting story behind your concept. Really looking forward to seeing you flesh this one out to reveal the 'spectacular' elements in this painting.
09 September 2005, 01:22 AM
thanks.... i am not sure if this composition is 'open' enough to show the elememnets that are floating in my head but i need to put them on paper to see
09 September 2005, 02:07 AM
ok done for the night i may be able to work with this layout
09 September 2005, 03:04 AM
ok i am changing the look now.... it want something more spectacular something with a little bit of action
09 September 2005, 06:08 AM
some added color work ect for the background
09 September 2005, 05:41 AM
ok i will slow down till i get some type of comments
09 September 2005, 06:05 AM
dont forget there will be a not so dumb looking ship involved
09 September 2005, 02:21 PM
nice picture!! a good move going with the 2nd pic. it looks nice and tight. will you keep it tight and detailed or loose?
just watch the atmospheric perspective on that right hand side building at the back. eventually it might need pushing back.
so far a good concept.
all the best,
09 September 2005, 05:38 PM
Good concept indeed, but to me it really looks like a recent illustration made by sparth...
You can see it here:
Is that a coincidence?
09 September 2005, 08:57 PM
interesting however that is purely coincidental
09 September 2005, 09:07 PM
i do see the simularities however my influences for this was the recent dylan cole dvd's ( the reason i added the tree and rock formations) and starwars episide 3 spaceship chrash.... ok now i need advise on wether i should continue this drawing for the contest or not
09 September 2005, 09:25 PM
coincidence :applause: :banghead:
09 September 2005, 07:54 PM
ok i am restarting this again to avoid complications.... i am back to my first idea of the onlookers the structure off to the left is actually going to be made of crystal. the story maybe be the 'explorers ' that found the structure went out to look for it cause it was only rumored to exist. well they found it now what do they actually think?
09 September 2005, 08:00 PM
nice idea.... keep it up man!
09 September 2005, 08:34 PM
a little more background work.....at this point ignore the structure i have a different idea of how i plant to handle that
09 September 2005, 08:55 PM
wow that is bright and happy i need to fix that
09 September 2005, 12:40 AM
just some colering info
09 September 2005, 08:31 AM
This is interesting, the colors of the structure looks gorgeous, good luck!
09 September 2005, 08:38 AM
great colors,very good idea.
09 September 2005, 04:02 PM
ok i wasnt happy with the cliff like mid ground so i killed it :)
10 October 2005, 04:45 AM
Cool colors! All the space breathes color! Great work! Good luck!
10 October 2005, 08:33 AM
a change for the better if you ask me! . nice work & colors! if you can catch the lighting affects of crystal....then wow!
all the best,
10 October 2005, 12:48 PM
making the structure more crystal like....and working on foreground.... i realize i am losing some lighting but that will be worked ou
10 October 2005, 12:57 PM
the lighting effects is something i have planned i am running a few test as we speak i think i am on to something for that ;)
10 October 2005, 02:59 PM
just a little further
10 October 2005, 04:07 PM
nice bit of colouring there! like the mood u have brought with the colours man! unique colour combination!
10 October 2005, 04:42 PM
ok time for the foreground figures.... i have to ideas now 'people arriving and pointing' or peopl dead as if they died as soon as the arrived at this marvel
10 October 2005, 05:41 PM
Man!! I love the colours in this sooo much and the composition is simply beautifull!! Keep this going and you'll have a winner, remember light is the key in this piece!
10 October 2005, 07:15 PM
thanks for the reply ... i dont know about winning... but i agree about the light and will keep that in mind to stay focused
10 October 2005, 08:00 AM
Nice colors so far! I think to make it more interesting you may need to put people in it, to give illusion of scale or any other subject matter up against those crystals! You may want to put something in the foreground to help the piece out a bit more to help out with the foreground your call on that one the, in all great stuff so far, will be back soon. holla!
10 October 2005, 06:13 PM
yeah there will people people in the fore ground that was the whole point of the illustration i just need to establish the setting before i put them in
10 October 2005, 04:45 AM
10 October 2005, 04:55 AM
Nice, did'nt you say you were going to put dead ppl? Maybe position the explorers right up close in the forground and then have a sea of dead ppl which the explorers can't see from thei position! That would be exciting!
10 October 2005, 11:39 AM
looking good, quite surreal with the colors!
just dont forget to balance out the colors on the people with the main crystal lighhts.
10 October 2005, 04:39 PM
the dead people was an idea not an absolute..... and right now i dont think we need dead people.... plus i dont feel that the people need to be bigger or closer in the fore ground cause the main focus isnt them it is seeling the crystal thingy....
yeah i know the lights need to hit the people i am still detailing them out then lights and shadows next
any more advise or coments more than welcome at this current stage
10 October 2005, 05:35 PM
just some more lighting to make things fit together
10 October 2005, 10:54 AM
so... what next?
10 October 2005, 06:09 PM
some development of the crystals and some more textures i guess
10 October 2005, 07:09 PM
ok i made the crystal more crystalish up top but that killed some on the brightness....what do you think???? i also added sky noise
10 October 2005, 09:40 AM
ok i beleive i will next adjust some lighting and smoth out a few things and move that to the final color wip milestone....then i will step back and return later to see if there is anything else needed to be added.
10 October 2005, 11:11 AM
nice. but i think you should get rid of the 'lines' of the sky in front of the crystals.
and turn some of the sky lines into an aurora borealis type streak to some of the colors in the sky.
10 October 2005, 05:34 PM
yeah not a bad idea
10 October 2005, 06:43 PM
ok just darkened some things what do you think?
10 October 2005, 04:15 PM
sorry its been a while.
this is looking nice! as i opened up ur thread i saw the darker?? version wip and said to myself - yes. i like the way u hav recession in the far mountains, but a good unity of glow from the crystals.
your choice about detailing the rocks at the figure height, far right - but that might be a bad idea - it would drag the eye away from the centre of the pic. maybe detail the rock just to the left of the characters. i think you have to decide where to object of focus is; the men, the crystals...etc...though i must say - i think you have chosen the figs as the focus point. am i right? as they seem to be just slightly sharper than the crystals.
all the best,
p.s. and thanks for commenting on my piece!!grrrr!  . just messing wit ya!!
10 October 2005, 06:32 PM
the 'rocks' by the men is thier gear not rocks. there is a slight focal point confusion however the main point is the crystals however the story is of the men seeing the crystals and being amazed . if you notice all angles lead the eye in towards the crystals. there is the chance of the men becoming the focal point but they too are pointing a the crystal so if you sight plan jumps between the men and the crystals that isnt too bad either
10 October 2005, 03:06 PM
hi.. sorry i ment the far right rocks!! but i see where you are going with this.
11 November 2005, 06:01 AM
ok here is the final image. Good luck people. Thanks for the help.
11 November 2005, 06:04 AM
Ok here it is. So explorers have reached some thing 'Spectacular' :) they saw a strange light and decided to go towards it. This is what they found a large structure. But the question remains, what is it?
