Hey, Dougbot, welcome back! Looking forward to seeing what you come up with. Good luck this time around!

So this is from an old story idea. Basically it was about a guy on a life long pilgramage to enlightenment. Nearing the end, now and old man, he see's the bigotry, hatred, sin and evil flooding the earth in the form of an everlasting river of beasts. He then realizes that his enlightenment is not a 'place' but is the journey, and wasted if not shared and taught to those who need it most. So he abandons his path and the other sages and monks to return home to teach and share his love of all things. That of course being the true path to God and life. It was better than that, but that's the overall idea.
I'm kind of going through a spiritual phase right now (reading the Bhagavad Gita, and tons buy Ghandi), so whatever I end up doing will probably be down that path.
Although I do love monsters....

You're going through a spiritual thing right now and you love monsters? Wow man. That's just cool. Love your idea. Keep it up.
09-07-2005, 08:07 AM
welcome again , dougbot :)
09-07-2005, 08:39 AM
I like it! Great colors in the bg, I think you should stick with that particular scheme. Can't wait to see how this pans out....
09-07-2005, 08:39 AM
Something spiritual sounds great... as long as there's loadsa monsters!! ;)
Good luck Dougbot!

That's a lot of spirituality to take in before breakfast :D I particularly like the orange illumination. Nice start, keep it up.

Awesome start. Here is another one I will need to check each day :scream:

Great start to your image, I love spiritual stuff! I will be back later...holla!

Hey thanks all. I'm already thinking of changing some of it, the river of beasts is kind of poopy the way it lays at the bottom of the pic. Need to at least add some perspective. I have 2 other little sketches I'll scan later, one a guy hacking away at monsters, the other a guy in a boat crossing a sea of monsters to some light off in the distance (this idea came from a stanza in the Gita that goes something like: Even to the most evil of evil doers, wisdom is a boat that can carry them across a sea of sin).
Anyway thanks again.

WOW this is a spectacular idea! Really beautiful concept I can't wait to see more! Great work!
09-07-2005, 08:28 PM
...very much like the color direction here. Looking forward to seeing more!
09-07-2005, 09:25 PM
Love the concept, and the colours in this sketch are wonderful, they were what drew me to your thumbnail. Adding some perspective into it would, I imagine, make it even better, so can't wait to see what happens with your other sketches. Another one to subscribe to on my ever expanding list!

So here's a couple other roughs. I actually like both of them better than the first. I might do the top one. It's a guy hacking away undetered at a serpent like form of beasties. Think sentinel snake in Matrix Revolutions.
The other is the boat idea mentioned earlier.

Oooh! Big monsters! Battles! Swords... It's made me think of the giant squid fight in '20,000 Leagues Under the Sea' with Kirk Douglas! This could be fantastic!

Good work dougbot, I like very much the colors and the light of your sketches.

Cool stuff, Doug. I really like the boat sketch myself, though it might not be as in-your-face spectacular as your other concepts I think it's a really refreshing take on the topic and has the potential to be something really different.
Anyway, I'm sure you'll produce something gorgeous as usual whatever direction you choose. All the best, mate!

Hey thanks all. I'm really torn between those 2. I was leaning towards the top one, but darn you Matt, now I don't know ;) . Maybe I'll sort of start both and go from there. Thanks again.

can't wait to see more... love the colore theme...
All of your posted works are AWESOME! man, that's I want to say.

Superb sketches! the color and lone quality works well.
As for which one, I agree with you, I like the one with the guy hacking away at the serpent thing too. Good luck, cheers.

Welcome back and good luck with the challenge.
But i disagree with you. That first sketch with the buddha is more spectacular
Ok time to post dougbot:)

So this one is what I'm going with for the moment. I am working on the sea one too, but hopefully will put it in the comic I'm slowly trying to make (coming to a comic shop in 2038, just one year after the apes take over).
Doug lies professionallly and he can't give up the testicles -I meant tentacles- thinging.
Looking good Doug, can't wait to see more.

subscribed, not to miss this thread.
The current sketch is a good choice though itīs a classic topic scene. The sketch allready gives a dramatic impression loaded with a lot of action. I particularly like the tentacle indication of the the background element. The blur gives it a very convincing depth allready.
Looking forward to watch further development.

I agree with th others, great sketches. A ton of action going on, keep going.

So messing around with the color a bit. Still very early. Brought the character to the front. Am thinking of puttinh in a horizon line, so you can get a feel of hieghth. Enjoy :P

I like your sketches very much,
very nice color , creats the mood, and the great concept,
nice work

beautiful composition! I really like the perspective. It would even more 'spectacular' if you were to raise his hand with sword and give more perspective, it would be a very powerful image... :)
in my opinion at least :D

So strange to meet you here....
Love your latest concept. I am too lazy to read all the posts so I am assuming he is underwater? Very cool. So you are thinking of showing the surface far above to give a sense of depth?
I hear you have a friend coming over to the dark side with you. A couple more and you can start a Beep hybrid...
