this is my first concept sketch, it's a crazy race of mens on pockets bikes on a highway, they invade the highway like an army of ants forcing the cars to park itself. A mix of the chase on the highway in Matrix 2 and Jackass...now the question is : "is it possible in three months ?"...i'm doing to discover it quickly ! :)

09-13-2005, 07:08 AM
here is some pictures of references for the bikers on their pocket bikes...:)

09-13-2005, 07:22 AM

Nice start for the modeling!
Which kind of render will you use?

> i'll use a realistic render, probably with hdri, to contrast with the semi-realistic style of the characters and vehicules. :)

Excellent!! I'm waiting to see update!! Keep it up!!

others pocket bikes...i change the names of sponsors (suzuki = zuzuki, kawasaki = kowasakia, honda = fonda...etc) as of bad copies of the true motorbikes. Hope you like it ! :)

09-20-2005, 07:31 AM

09-22-2005, 09:33 AM

Police motorbike at the background may be funny too .

You seems to be a "Torque" fan guy^^

hi jabberwoc :) thanks for your coment !
for the old stickers, i'll think of it, but i want that my pockets bikes looks likes toys, new toys, just bought in shop :)
And for the police, why not....if i have the time and if it don't fill too much the picture at the background.

hi all,
here's the first modeling of the generic biker i'll use for the picture, simple modeling, there's no folds on the modeling combination because they are going on the texture ;)
There's some textures examples for the continuation. Hope you like it ! :)

09-22-2005, 09:51 PM
Nice WIP mate!
I imagine very well those guys on these pockets bikes!
Good design keep up!

here's the first test for the texture (combination and helmet), not finished but just to give you an idea of the texture appearance, hope you like it ! :)

09-27-2005, 09:43 PM
hei nice byke rider! maybe u could put one guy with his helmet off ;)!
cheers man!

09-27-2005, 10:19 PM
Nice texturing!
And it is only the beginning:bounce:
hope to see some "lucky" jackets or "hell's Angels"...
In my dreams? yeah ok i go out...:D
Good work mate continue like that!!

Just a little wip...here's a sample of a posing...more soon :)

hope you like it !

10-04-2005, 08:23 PM
Yeah cool

But the pocket bike seems a bit big, i think you should do it smaller, as in this pic:

Just my opinion ;)

10-04-2005, 09:06 PM
Nice WIP dude!
Good render and posing!
Maybe elbows are a little too sharp, maybe due to skinning...
And like Goul said , maybe the bike is too big but there is several categories/height of pocket bikes.
This height of bikes is dynamic and can be driven faster.Smaller bike will reduce the "spectacular" punch huh? Don't know really.
I like it like that (if you are singing what i think, you should be ashamed:scream:)!!
Try to post a wip with a smaller bike if you want, monks, and that will be a good test for attitudes.
No more crits however:shrug: (misc.php?do=getsmilies&wysiwyg=1&forumid=0#)
Good work man keep the good job:beer: (misc.php?do=getsmilies&wysiwyg=1&forumid=0#)

10-05-2005, 07:55 AM
Yeah cool

But the pocket bike seems a bit big, i think you should do it smaller, as in this pic:

Just my opinion ;)

hum yes perhaps too big...i'll test a smaller bike tonight...my character doesn't have realistic proportions so it's difficult to have the same render of your photo...now when my character is up near the pocket bike, it's the good proportion, but when he's sit on the bike...the bike seems too big ! i'll reduce it ! :) thanks all for your coments !

10-06-2005, 11:53 AM
http://features.cgsociety.org/challenge/entries/11/8178/8178_1128599618_medium.jpg (http://features.cgsociety.org/challenge/entries/11/8178/8178_1128599618_large.jpg)

here's the a new posing and a new scale of the pocket bike, i think now it's good for the scale...hope you like it !

10-06-2005, 12:01 PM
Excellent proportions!!! You got it!!
Continue this way dude!

Nice render and posing too!

Cya soon

10-06-2005, 12:31 PM
This guy appear very thin.... bu the result is mostly funny... well done Greg  his textures are really awesome... especially for the boots :)

10-06-2005, 02:15 PM
That's a lot better :)
But this guys looks like a child. His position is the same than on a normal moto, you should make him bigger, and put him in a more extreme position, as in your first sketch ;)
Just my opinion by the way, but i think it will be more spectacular ;)

10-06-2005, 02:48 PM
thanks for your coments :)

Lemog > yes he's very thin, but it's the generic pilot, the others will be fat, more thin...etc

Goul > it's difficult to put the pilot on the pocket bike if i make it too small (in proportion, the pocket bike is already smaller than an real pocket bike)...and for the position, it's just a test :) , it will be more extreme positions in the futures pictures....

10-06-2005, 02:52 PM
Cool bikers, dude. Nothing to crit for now.

10-06-2005, 09:13 PM

here's the final scale of the pocket bike, hope your like it, more posings with the others bikes soon ;)

10-06-2005, 09:28 PM
hi monks.
yess the pocket byke and rider looks really nice! great work man!
this is fun to keep watching the progress!

10-06-2005, 10:56 PM
wow lovely ducati, nice modeling good luck monk.

10-06-2005, 11:06 PM
Oh man..this is so funny and extremely good looking...

10-07-2005, 08:36 AM
>> DimitrisLiatsos,yunisirees & 3dmiao : thanks all for your coments :)

10-07-2005, 08:48 AM
i like the bike. looks so funny. :)
you have to check the deformations of the legs and the arms of the driver, because they get thinner...

10-12-2005, 05:19 PM
hehehe coool ! :)

Yeah man, this time i think you find the right scale  ! I really like it now :)
It will be freaky :buttrock:

10-12-2005, 05:28 PM
Hi Gregory,

Super idée, j'adore... Ca me fait penser à un telefilm que j'ai vu il y a peu. Le film était nul mais la course de mini-moto m'a éclaté. Bref cette course risque d'etre un grand moment  .

Great idea, amazing concept, very funny.
The point of view is really dynamic.

Can't wait to see more.

10-13-2005, 08:03 AM
Goul & thiboleo >> thanks :) , it's hard to find time to work this week....perhaps a new post this friday...

10-13-2005, 11:43 AM
Hey monks, your job continues to make me laugh, it's such a funny idea and your characters are so well modeled and textured... great job mate.

Hi all,

just a test with all the pilots, they have all the same pose, there's no composition, it's just to see them all together :)

10-17-2005, 06:26 PM
hiya monks
haha man nice them bykers! maybe u could put in a fat one ... might add to the hilariousness! :D.
cheers man!

10-17-2005, 07:45 PM
hi yunisirees :)

yes, it's the generic pilot on this picture...more pictures with different proportions of pilots will be come soon !

10-17-2005, 07:47 PM
Hahahaha... very funny all these colored broumbroum guys... but where is the fat one ? :scream:

10-17-2005, 07:55 PM

You should maybe add one hells angel in the team :D :buttrock:

10-17-2005, 08:27 PM
thanks all :)

10-17-2005, 08:39 PM

10-17-2005, 08:54 PM
Yeah the big one! Love it dude!
Want to see it in action now:thumbsup:
Good luck boy!

10-17-2005, 09:19 PM
Haha!! Thats fantastic!

Great idea, and the bikers look really funny! The proportions could be pushed a little bit more to be honest - they look a little bit like regular people on those mini-bikes. Its kinda sitting halfway between cartoony and realistic at the moment. Real nice work on the textures!

Keep up the great work - its one of the most promising concepts ive seen so far.

10-19-2005, 06:57 AM
This is a very cool concept. Look forward to see you development. Is very funny and spectacular in my opinion.

10-19-2005, 09:42 AM
great job here!!
i really like your concept, will give an effect funny and spectacular for sure!!

i've just finished the cars, so i test my layout with the final models and a lighting ambiance. I also test the motion blur to see if the effect is good. Hope you like it, more soon...

11-02-2005, 12:41 AM

Here's the modeling of the highway and a test of point of view, making it more dynamic...

11-03-2005, 08:29 PM

11-08-2005, 10:16 AM
Hey, looking good and these proportions you used for the bikes are hilarious! It feels like some of the back guys on their bikes need some motion blur too. Keep it up man, your doing a fine job!

11-08-2005, 11:34 PM
wahaa , yeah, that's rocks :buttrock:

I love the layout a lot!

11-10-2005, 12:27 AM
jajajajajajaja thats great and funny, the models are very cartoon, you have done a really good job, congratulations man:scream:

11-10-2005, 03:41 AM
This is really turning out to be a great piece. I love the composition, with the camera angle like it's right down there in the action. Maybe if the sun was coming from the other way (behind the camera), your front racer would stand out a little more.

Keep up the great work! You're almost there.

11-10-2005, 09:24 AM
Sorry no crits now:shrug:
I ll wait for the final composite!! :D
Great work mate, so groovy:applause:

11-10-2005, 09:38 AM
That's comes great Greg... very simpathetic composition... wiating for more... end is near now... good work

11-10-2005, 10:13 AM

here's the first test with compositing...the sky is very simple, i had test with some clouds or with the sun in the background but i think that it render the picture too complex, if you have another idea :)

11-12-2005, 10:41 AM
Some skid smoke?? just try:scream:
good luck

11-13-2005, 03:20 AM
cool! i love the lighting, really sells it. very nice work.

11-15-2005, 10:00 AM
Haha! Totally missed this thread until now... This is excellent. Very nice POV, hilarious models, great sense of action and being in the middle of it.

Some smoke from skidding/spinning rubber like funkyboss suggested could add a lot, try that!

Very cool and funny image - good luck with the final touches

11-15-2005, 11:47 AM
hiya monks

the scene is looking quite nice!  ! looking funny as ever!

hang on budy !

11-15-2005, 05:07 PM

11-15-2005, 07:23 PM
very nice, and well done:thumbsup:

11-15-2005, 09:34 PM
Brilliant idea! and well executed, may be you should rise one leg (maybe both) of the front guy so we can bette feel his enjoyment.
A lot of fun in it!
good work!

Wow, that is awesome. Great sense of speed and excitment. I think that maybe adding a little more atmosphere could help. Maybe blueing up the stuff in the background and desaturating it a bit to help the foreground pop. Also maybe some more debris, smoke, but very subtle from the wheels. Great stuff.

11-16-2005, 08:25 AM
thanks all ;), i'm working on details on the road (projections from the wheels) and another version of smoke...

Novacaine > for the desaturation of the background...i'll test, it's a good idea ! thanks

11-16-2005, 08:57 AM
The smoke is good. But I think you had to add some more debris or others...
I also think the desaturate bg is something to test.
Great work so far.

As Vincent said... more smoke, little sheets, little stones and dust... for the moment, that's seem to much timid... go Greg... go Spectacular :wip:

hi all !
here's a possible final picture...there's more smoke, debrits and some clouds...hope you like it...if you have other suggestions...

Great! I like the idea and the composition! I think the bridge behind the character in the middle is a good way to underline the importance of that character, giving in the same time great power to the composition in general. I'd like to use a similar angle in an illustration of mine in the near future. Then the motorcycles; I always find these kind of vehicles so funny! Great piece!
