I'm in for the challenge this month. My entry is going to combine two of my hobbies: teaching my dog new tricks and crushing people at Scrabble :D
The likeness of my dog and myself aren't accurate yet...I'm still just playing around with composition. c&c welcome as always:arteest: http://members.cox.net/sheepchase/scrabblesketchweb.jpg
Crushing people at Scrabble?!
you wish sucka!

Here's an update...still really rough, but at least this gives an idea of the color palette. I might try for kind of a crude, blocky style in this one. What do you guys think?

LOL crushing people at scrabble, very funny.
I really like your idea for the flat cutout color design. But I would make it shaded as well. Either make drop shadows on the color layers or little shadow, cutouts. If that makes sense. And the cat in the background made me laugh my butt off.
your idea is [Q] [E] [S] [I] [X] [I] [E] [T] [U]
for a triple word score: :bounce:

Thanks a lot for the feedback dmcgrath:) I should be updating in the next day or two. I'm using this challenge as an excuse to learn illustrator, so my entry is going a bit slower than I anticipated.

Here's a bit of an update:

Nice choice of colours. Looks good. I like this last image the best. It looks very mocha like.

Hey, thanx for the c&c!:applause:
Jake: Yeah, I guess I look a bit wide-eyed in that one...you have to be intensely alert playing scrabble against the people I play with, who tend to cheat on a regular basis:surprised
Tommy Lee: Thanks! Glad you like it:beer:
Gamoron: Thanks, also! I tried to base the colors off of the scrabble board...seems to be working out well:)
Here's an update:

The only thing that I could think to say is that you look a little disconnected. It seems like you should be looking at the dog or the board, rather than just off into space. Other than that, I love the style and the colors. Maybe you could throw in a dab of tinted red or blue like the bonus squared on the scrabble board.

One more update for this evening:
Thanks for the crit, Gilgamesh. :)

Just wanted to say you're getting the hang of illustrator pretty quickly. Very nice work :)
What version are you using?
11-13-2002, 09:50 PM
I'm using version 9.
11-13-2002, 09:57 PM
Ah cool. So you can use the transparency thingy on the layers and stuff :)
I sadly enough use version 8, without that...

I'm not really sure what to do next on this:

Getting better and better:applause:

you've got this very drug induced inspirational image going here. Reminds me of the caterpillar sequence in Alice in Wonderland. maybe you can push it some more. If not maybe you're done. Looks really good. Recent departure from your other style, or the way you've been working for the last while?
11-16-2002, 06:29 PM
I'm not really sure if it's done yet. I think there are some small details I might add. The space behind my dog seems sort of empty. I might stick a window or a framed picture in there. Not really sure what else yet.
Thanks for the comments Gamoron and Tommy Lee:beer:
