Good luck :bounce:

09 September 2005, 12:43 PM (

Just a quick first sketch :-)

09 September 2005, 01:06 PM
Hiya All,

Oh I ponder the questions....What is Spectacular? How is it defined in an image? How can I make it grasp the throat, quicken the pulse, excite or scare. What i feel is spectacular may not be to someone else....hhhmmmm I know I am rambling because I havn't come up with anything :)
But would like to know your thoughts

09 September 2005, 01:43 PM
This is a really interesting idea, nice concept work so far. I look forward to seeing your progress through this.

Good luck!

09 September 2005, 02:18 PM (

Here is just another idea, A spectacular crash landing by the international space ring habitat in 3021.....what a mess and what a loss....:-)

09 September 2005, 02:26 PM
hey this looks great

09 September 2005, 02:43 PM
Good luck with the challenge! cool idea, but I was just thinking if there would be roads like that over 1000 years in the future... :)

09 September 2005, 03:12 PM
The sense of space is impressive - I am always most admiring of artists who choose to grapple with such depth. The sketch is dynamic - I look forward to seeing how you choose to render it. Good luck

09 September 2005, 03:14 PM
very nice concept so far... great start! I'll be watching this one....

I think I will join this time...

ohh, missed you at the DSG man!!, anyway good luck

09 September 2005, 03:17 PM
NIce to see you in the challenges again :) Good luck!

09 September 2005, 04:07 PM
Wow. Great idea. This would involve a lot of detailing... No doubt that you're going somewhere spectacular with this. Keep it up!

09 September 2005, 05:49 PM
welome and good luck, I will be keeping up with this forum, holla!

09 September 2005, 05:51 PM
wow thats a great idea, but lets hope that never happens lol!

09 September 2005, 06:09 PM
cool idea! good luck with it! :)

09 September 2005, 06:13 PM
lookin good! I like your idea, but something seems a little awkward with the road/smoke relationship. It seems almost like its 'too good to be true' that the road and the smoke are both the same angle on the page. could be wrong, but you may try making the road vertical, or just at a slightly different direction than the smoke. or mabie not. anyway, looki'n forward to it! :)

09 September 2005, 04:49 AM (

Set in the roaring 20's an unexplained event....bright lights and people running.....:-)

09 September 2005, 01:40 PM (

Ok this is the view from the international space city in the future. Some strange beams of light coming from outer space and causing major hurricanes...well thats my story an I am sticking to

09 September 2005, 01:53 PM
Wow so many replies....:) and lots of friendly faces

Squibbit...Thanx dude.
yAdam...You could be right about the roads.
Avatarist...Thanx for the kind words and goodluck to you
daw...Thanx dude and I do miss the DSG but have been so busy on many projects :)
AirbORn...nice to see you here again
ahbeejieh...oh no detail...hehe I hope i dont disappoint :D thanx
NOOB!...same here that would be devastating.
enialadam...thanx you pointed that out i see but the wind could be blowing that Thanx

Cheers to all

09 September 2005, 05:43 AM
Y ou have more sketches , lookin nice, I am liking the second which is really cool. Will stop by later. holla!

09 September 2005, 08:52 PM
Hi Mark,

I personaly like the crash. To me itīs the most promising one.

Good luck for the challenge, dude.

09 September 2005, 08:54 PM
coolness with the hurricanes

09 September 2005, 10:15 PM
I think I like this last idea the most, it's veeery spectacular... ;)

the UFO idea was very good too, and it would allow you to show some human faces and emotions instead of just "objects"...

09 September 2005, 11:03 PM
Nice ideas. I like the POV on the latest one. Let's see more!

09 September 2005, 10:59 AM
hi there buddy! nice to see u participating :D it will be so much fun once again.. ur latest sketch looks really promising, but I'd resize the canvas in one or another direction, to achieve more dramatic and dynamic effect. Good luck :)

09 September 2005, 03:22 PM (

Ok who was the twit that put that flamin tree in the middle of the intersection...hehe Well here is another concept which I really like. What do you guys reckon....Spectacular?? :-)

09 September 2005, 03:25 PM

09 September 2005, 03:31 PM
beelow... I do like the orbit one...hhmm decisions
Fahrija... Thanx for dropping by not sure if i will go with the crash one but ya never know...:)
Squibbit... Thanx dude
elmasfeo... I am thinking sofar I like the orbit and the flamin tree
Baron Impossible... Whats POV mean or should I know this...its a trick question isnt it...??? LOL
NinjaASSN... Hey thanx and I will look at canvas sizes when I finally make a direction choice...and goodluck to u too :-)

09 September 2005, 03:39 PM

Hey there my friend...hehe I looked that up on GOOGLE and you made that word :scream:

09 September 2005, 04:04 PM
The new concept is looking really spectacular! I do like the idea of the space station and the mysterious beams of light though, but the fire in the new one makes it so much more dramatic and sometimes space and sci fi can get a bit over used, so It would be cool to see some more on the new one :)

09 September 2005, 04:05 PM
POV = Point Of View, i.e. camera angle, perspective, composition.

The burning tree is cool (pardon the anti-pun). Needs something in the foreground, though.

09 September 2005, 07:07 PM
hello there Mark!!!Nice to see you again!!!
Some great ideas there you've got!
Like the last one, nice shot:thumbsup: .Although I agree with baron that maybe something on the foreground could put in more deepness.Colors are great!!!
Have Fun mate!!!

09 September 2005, 08:10 PM
will be an exelent image!

keep it up!

09 September 2005, 09:58 PM
wow.... that flames are...(any other synonim of spectacular? I'm using that word too much lately)... It looks great, I can feel the heat coming out of them! :bounce:

09 September 2005, 10:49 PM
Except for the confusion about why the tree is in the street, I'd say it's spectacular. Will there be people in the shot reacting to it? Why it it in flames?

Good luck! I'm looking forward to seeing something cool from you again!

09 September 2005, 11:24 PM
Well Its nice to see that you guys like it too.

The idea came from looking at some pictures of the plant called the burning bush.

or maybe it is a sign from the all mighty...
God talked to Moses from within a burning bush. God promised that He would deliver.
or is it a sign from the Devil coming to take our souls....

or maybe there was a really bad fire at the local nursury and one of the trees in the explosion flew up into the air and landed in the intersection...hehe i like that story.

Maybe we should just put it down to a great KODAK moment :)
Thanx for your support.

09 September 2005, 12:16 AM (

Ok I have been seriously thinking and with an Idea from my son I came up with this concept. The watcher(maybe a centry) watching a huge army coming across the terrain as far as the eye can see....SPECTACULAR??

09 September 2005, 12:53 AM (

Here is a colour concept of the idea...:-)

09 September 2005, 01:59 AM
Make the army, extending vastly beyond the composition, your Ideas are starting to get better, I will wait for the next update!

09 September 2005, 11:55 AM
well, I dont really get the spectacular feeling watching that last sketch (could be coz of the early stage) but Im amazed by the previous one with the fire. It has great contrast, dynamic, a great chance for story development around it and many more. Im for that one at the moment.

09 September 2005, 12:48 PM
my favorite is the crashed spacestation sketch ... composition and colors there are great :D

09 September 2005, 12:50 PM
Hey there my friend...hehe I looked that up on GOOGLE and you made that word :scream:

Cool sketch there, buddy

09 September 2005, 02:06 PM (

Hiya all,
The tree looked odd and i couldnt really explain why a tree was in the intersection. So I am thinking a runaway tanker with all this fire is pretty spectacular.....:-)

09 September 2005, 02:14 PM
beelow... Thanx I know what you mean needs millions more soldiers and tanks...but I think I will do the watcher outside of the challenge.
NinjaASSN... Thanx I feel i keep coming back to the fire one so as you can see i have developed it further and I do like it...:)
Vahn... Thanx for dropping by and I do like that image but I am playing with fire now...hehe
Squibbit... Thanx dude and I love your Dragon image...Tops

09 September 2005, 02:52 PM
playing with fire indeed - there's some intense heat coming off that rig - I really like the flames so far. I don't know how you'd go about it - maybe altering the composition a little-, but I'd like to see the vehicles and tanker with a little more movement towards the viewer - they don't seem as intimidating yet as they maybe oughta.

09 September 2005, 04:06 PM
Hey element 5. Lookin' hot with your recent sketch man. Looks like a scene out of a terminator movie or something :) Keep em comin with the awesome concepts.

09 September 2005, 01:37 AM
Avatarist... Hey there thanx, I will be going with this concept and this was just a flesh out. I will be playing with the composition and I might lower the POV....:)

ahbeejieh... Does look a little like the spectacular terminator truck I like m concept even Thanx fo dropping by.

09 September 2005, 11:47 AM
yay! the fire sketch is getting developed :D I really love the changes u made, with the truck in the middle. Right now I see this piece as the truck was involved in the accident, the guy inside lost control of the vehicle... and coz of the fire in the back, everyone he passes get caught in the fire as well (like some sort of flamethrower on wheels :)). Very spectacular!

09 September 2005, 08:35 AM
I really like the "out of control" sketch. the explosion and how the fire is wrapped around the truck is very convincing. My favorite concept:thumbsup:

You could add some people in the foreground running away or stay freezed cause of panic. The background is deep black. Usually this is exactly what happens when watching into fire at night but maybe I would consider to show some things dimly (red bounce light from the fire) just to get rid of the heavy black. Just some thoughts.

09 September 2005, 12:21 PM
Oh wow, lots of concepts here... of them all, the space station crash and the latest one with the tanker are by far and away my favourites. The space station one could have the same spectacular feel the end of Independence Day had, where the ships crash and burn onto earth.

But, I think the truck one has the more instant 'intake of breath' reaction, but it could be made even more spectacular, I think. Perhaps a more exaggerated perspective to take you closer to the truck, or having the truck swinging even more wildly and crashing into the car, with bits of burning tyres and debris flying everywhere. But man, kudos on the flames, they're spectacular even at this early stage.

09 September 2005, 12:34 PM
yea and how the truck is leaning to the side is excellent, good stuff man

09 September 2005, 02:45 PM
Hi element5,

I like your flaming tree and vehicles, the watcher, and the crashed spacestation concepts. They each have a unique wonder element about them. About the flaming tree: what if you made it a flaming alien lifeform? This combines the image with alien/space element and may make for a more explanable story. Just a thought.

You have some great ideas there. Keep up the great work and best of luck in whichever direction you decide to take. I'm looking forward to seeing what develops.

09 September 2005, 06:40 PM
your truck looks great!! everything in your image... but I like the 'watcher' too:thumbsup:

good luck!

09 September 2005, 09:45 PM
Wierd, when i looked at your image my eyes started to hurt. I figured it was something to do with the flame and how it shows up on my monitor.

09 September 2005, 10:02 PM
I love the look of the flames

09 September 2005, 11:06 PM
hey man

the last concept is so good
good luck

09 September 2005, 11:59 AM (

Ok I have been playing around with the idea. I am using a Road train theme and having a dig at the Hiked up petrol costs.... some poor tourists have been court out by the spectacular flaming rig as it passes. :-)

09 September 2005, 12:17 PM
NinjaASSN: Thanx, I am going with a fantasy style changing Shell to "Hell" and instead of Mack truck I called it "Back"...."Hell and Back"
Fahrija: Thanx for the comments, I am not sure about putting people running around. I am liking the idea of this happening in the Australian outback....waht a view would that be....:)
Zepyhri: Cool and the truck is the winner. Thanx
Squibbit: Changed the truck but still have the lean
TMArtist: I do like the spacestation one but I am really into the truck idea.
Ducklator: Thanx :)
dioxide: Hehe Sorry about that
Kattosha: Thanx for dropping by.
Ahmed Hosny: Thanx :)

09 September 2005, 03:14 PM
Some really great concepts here! I like the idea of the watcher, but this one is also good, I'm just not sure it's original enough? There are quite a few people, doing vehical accidents and things. Really nice concepts though. Good luck with your ideas! :)

09 September 2005, 04:48 PM
Hi Mark,

Dude, first time I saw your burning rig sketch, I thought "Damn, that looks like it came straight out of hell!". I think your idea is great and hits home for many people... I actually had to pay $30 for 1/2 a tank of petrol the other day, and thats probably not a lot by some people's standards. Man I long for the days when I could fill up my tank with $12!

But seriously dude, great idea. I initially wanted to do the same by using current events as my theme (I was shooting more for political figures) but just found it too difficult to work with. Still, you are doing nicely with it so I cant wait to see more updates. - J

09 September 2005, 09:34 PM
If you were to go with this, I would like to see some figurative stuff, maybe have like the family point at the burning rig and have have like a dog and child head out the window and pointing at it. You should make this pretty comical if you can, I am interested what you will do with this, you should this sebastian kruger style! Good luck with this one!

09 September 2005, 11:53 PM
if it comes to the idea I like #8 the most cause it's got the depth
I like the lines on last one but not sure about concept
I just think you need a little space around, this one is all about a composition,
and I see some big names choking, hmm?
think thats cool just maybe different angles, like very dramatic, I saw on I think is Tolga, old truck crash that was nailed, I mean perfect
I think push this as much as you can

09 September 2005, 01:01 AM
That is alot of fuel to be on one truck.

Poor vacationers

Cool concept

09 September 2005, 03:14 AM (

I have changed the composition. I have placed a car who has run out of petrol 5km out of the town. They are in awe of the spectacle of this Flamin Road train....One guy is standing with the jerry can and the female driver is watching out of the window. The firey trail leads back into the Town which is on fire....
Hope you like :-)

09 September 2005, 03:20 AM
interesting concept , but is the truck is too small?

09 September 2005, 03:39 AM
enialadam...Thanx for you comment... I am not acctually doing an accident...mine is Hell Haulage...on the Highway to :)
Mecha Hate Chimp...The fuel costs here in Australia are really I am taking the opportunity to have a the big profiteering fuel companies. HEHE!
beelow... i have taken our advice and am putting 2 people in my images...thanx
Korline...I have also taken your advice too and changed the comp alittle...more space...
Agent_Orange....Thanx...the Road trains can have up too 4 trailers....huge!

monsitj....Yes you are right I will rectif that one....Thanx

09 September 2005, 03:50 AM (

Ok :-) I made the truck bigger and I like how part of the front is off the page.

09 September 2005, 02:44 PM (

Ok guys and gals I am starting my colour....just messing around with it to see what works...:-)

09 September 2005, 07:08 PM
Good luck "E5" !

09 September 2005, 12:06 AM
Good luck "E5" !

Thanx for dropping by my friend...I am having fun with this has vehicles in it...hehe
Nice to do an image that dosnt focus on people...:)

09 September 2005, 08:47 PM
just stoping by to tell u that I love ur progress and direction u r going to. the bigger truck and a bit of the image is also a good idea and makes the whole pic more dynamic which is great. Keep up the good work buddy and good luck with painting process :)

09 September 2005, 08:55 PM
quiet hot on the road! nice angle, only i found the "noncropped truck" quiet cool. you also could have scaled down the little car and the road a bit to get the same effect without loosing the nice details... what u think?

09 September 2005, 09:18 PM
hahaha, sweet, this one

09 September 2005, 12:58 PM
hi mark! :wavey:

09 September 2005, 03:53 PM
HI E5!

Your idea is really original , I'll check out later to see more :)
can't wait

09 September 2005, 09:47 PM
heh...i like the idea...why don't you try to skew the whole scene and enhance the perspective thus will infuse more dynamic into the composition...

09 September 2005, 01:34 AM
NinjaASSN... Thanx mate I really appriciate the support... your image is looking great aswell
the1st_angel... Thanx for that... I did try the rescaled car first and then did the truck which I found worked better. :)
Squibbit... Cheers!
coCoKNIght... Thanx
big mouth... Thanx
Neozoom... thanx for dropping by :)
asparta... Thanx will have to think about that...

09 September 2005, 01:38 AM (

Ok here we go with more colour...Have been working with many layers, Mucking around with different brushes. Might have to take some ref shots of the old car and people to get the angles right...but happy with what I have acheived...:-)

09 September 2005, 04:36 AM
nice going e5~the latest updates looks good, asparta makes some points there and i kinda agreed with him.try out some different angles maybe?:scream:

09 September 2005, 04:45 AM

10 October 2005, 04:36 AM
Its getting hot in here

No crits yet.

Your capturing the "flames of Hell" so to speak!!

10 October 2005, 04:38 AM
Really nice so far!! All I can say is that you have to make the edges of the flame blend in with the background so they don/t look like they have just been stuck on there! Good luck!

10 October 2005, 01:37 PM
sh@ke... Thanx for the support... I may change the car and road perspective abit as for the truck I feel the look is right...:)
Squibbit... Thanx dude and gotta love your new avatar...:)
