hi all, first time here in the challenge.
Ok, here's my concept sketch based on a true event, my own interpretation of the first major battle of the Philippine Revolution Aug. 30, 1896 lead by Andres Bonifacio the father of Katipunan.

09-09-2005, 03:20 AM
nice going digitalhadz~a good start, gonna be a rough ride on the paint job~hehe:scream:play around more with the angle,a dramatic angle would best suit for this
09-09-2005, 03:35 AM

Beautiful sketch...your sketching ability really points to a great piece!
09-09-2005, 06:39 AM
Nice line work, good luck to ya, holla!
09-09-2005, 11:48 AM
Hi, your drawing is very promising, I like!!!
09-09-2005, 12:06 PM
wow ,yeh my concept is kinda inspired by old classical war art like this aswell.great work.
woohoo... this looks so good... love all the details... good luck!!!
09-09-2005, 12:49 PM
Wow, you're going to need 3 months to finish all of that! :scream:
But it's looking nice. Only thing I'd say (and this is really hard to comment on without seeing where you're going with color) is that this might turn out to be a bit flat. Depth-wise, that is: Perhaps some stronger perspective and aspects of the piece closer in the foreground might help that, but that also might not be what you're going for. Anyhow, good luck with it!
09-13-2005, 09:56 AM
Ok, i finished the concept sketch, now clean up and add some minor changes and fixed the perspective b'coz its look kinda flat.
thanks to walrus for the crits really appreciated. :)
and thanks also to everyone for the comments. :)
09-13-2005, 11:19 AM
uf! that will be some detailed pic! spectacular for sure if u will manage to finish it. Im looking forward to see the progress!
09-13-2005, 07:16 PM
Susmaryosep dude. Ang tindi ng details nitong pic mo a :P First time mo? Hehe... First time ko rin dude, goodluck satin! I dont think you need to change the angle at all pare. I mean, maintaining this angle will preserve it's "oldschool" appeal pare, which suits the subject. Pero try out some new angles parin, it wont hurt anyone to see and try. I love this piece already. Sa iyong mga kamay nakasalalay ang history ng Pinas! Goodluck!
09-13-2005, 07:34 PM
Looks really good. like the style and composition.
09-13-2005, 09:01 PM

09-14-2005, 05:32 AM
so much going on... its very different... reminds me of those old oil paintings of battles. although you have a lot of work ahead of you. all those shadows to think about it blows my mind. I hope you can get the depth and this picture will really stand out then
09-14-2005, 06:12 AM
@NinjaASSN, thanks man... yeah, and i hope i can finish it at the right time this would be lots of paint job to do.
@ahbeejieh, salamat pre. yup! first time ko sumali d2 sana makayanan. hehehe salamat sa payo mo pre, yon nga sana gagawin ko medyo flat lang old style kung baga. pero tama rin nman sila para may dating, inayos ko yong perspective, sana ok. Good luck din sau pre!
@agent bone, thank you, i'm glad u like it.

09-19-2005, 06:45 AM
here i chooses impressionism as my style to offer a different taste to the eyes of the jurors. I also tried to make it more traditional to complement its theme.
09-19-2005, 06:48 AM
close up, my custom brush and swatches.
09-19-2005, 09:21 AM
straight progress here so far.
it feels already like a classic mural or fresco art.
the theme is not my thing, but its minor to the rest.

Very lovely work, could be frieze or a painting behind the heads of a newly formed state. I can hear the gunfire and the horse hooves. As someone mentioned I like that it is a little flat, makes the image more iconic. Inspiring stuff, as I wanted to tackle a similar riot of detail.
09-20-2005, 01:00 PM

updates, adding highlights...
10-21-2005, 06:20 PM
I just wanted to say that your entry is very interesting, vastly different style than the other entries that I have seen, but I really like it. It looks like it should be a mural on the side of a large building and that in itself is spectacular! :)
10-23-2005, 12:21 PM
Lookin' good so far pare. Your piece is really turning out beautifully. Too bad, got no time to update on mine... Keep it up! Nood nalang ako sa inyo sa ngayon.

Hey Ferdinard, nice work! It looks a lot like stained glass and has a lot of luminance to it! Keep up the good work! Hope to see the final soon!
11-16-2005, 04:11 PM

11-17-2005, 07:37 PM
Great work! Really different in a good way.
Do you think you have time to finish it up? Good luck with your quest!
11-17-2005, 10:20 PM
Nice work. The limited color palette and traditional look work very well to show the history in the work. Also the composition is busy, but not confusing so good job with that as well.
11-18-2005, 08:19 AM
Long time no post a :) Busy as hell ba? :) Rehas tayo. Well, goodluck nalang in finishing this one. I guess no one can criticize you much with what you're doing here, coz this is your style, and it looks great men. Keep it up.
11-18-2005, 11:51 AM
update again. more highlights
11-18-2005, 11:57 AM
thanks guys for all the comments ..thanks for all the support. hope to finish it on time.
11-18-2005, 02:41 PM
Wow, Ferdinand. That's a wonderful technique you've got there. Really impressive. I just think you overdid the highlighting in your last update. The subdued colors somehow looked more natural, less digital. But that's just my opinion.
Keep it up!
11-23-2005, 10:34 PM
still one of the most uniqe styles in this challenge :) Really make sure to finish this piece in time, it would be a sad thing not having something like that in the final. What r those KKK stand for? Sorry if u explained it before, I just didnt catch it. good luck!
11-23-2005, 11:11 PM
Dalian mo naman pare. Gumaganda nang gumaganda yung piece mo. Really dig the colours now men and keep up with the style. It is definately a unique piece and very original in the entries.
Balik ulit ako tol
11-25-2005, 02:54 AM
here's another update....
11-25-2005, 03:03 AM
thanks again guys for all the comments...
here's a little info about KKK(Katipunan).
The Katipunan was a secret society founded in the Philippines by Andrés Bonifacio aimed towards liberating the country from the Spanish colonizers. The name Katipunan is actually a shorter version of the official name, which is in Tagalog: Kataastaasang, Kagalanggalangang Katipunan ng mga Anak ng Bayan (roughly translated as The Most High and Most Noble Society of the Children of the Nation). The Katipunan is also known by its acronym, KKK. The word katipunan is a Tagalog term for society, the root word being the verb tipon, which means to gather.

After the Spanish arrested Rizal in July 1892, Bonifacio decided that the Philippines would only achieve independence through revolution. On July 7, 1896 he founded the Katipunan a secret society open to both peasants and the middle class that employed Masonic rituals to impart an air of sacred mystery. It insinuated itself into the community by setting up mutual aid societies and education for the poor. By 1896, the Katipunan had over 30,000 members and functioned at the national, provincial, and municipal levels.

On August 30, 1896, Andres Bonifacio (The Father of the Katipunan) and his best friend, Emilio Jacinto, fought the first battle of the Philippine Revolution. Leading an army of eight hundred men, they attacked a gunpowder storehouse in San Juan del Monte. Today the place is called Pinaglabanan, meaning battlefield. The storehouse was an important military post for the Spanish army, but it was defended by only a hundred men. Outnumbered, the Spaniards retreated to El Deposito, the place where the Spaniards stored the water supply for the city of Intramuros.
Thanks again for all the support.

Hey congrats! Magnificent piece! Hope they get a kick out of this one :wavey:
12-01-2005, 11:35 AM
Original and interesting style. Nice work.
12-01-2005, 12:58 PM
I love the way the lighting has changed the depth of the scene completely, yet you have retained the beautifully consistent drawing style on which you've founded the piece.
Well done - I like it much more stylistically than I thought i was going to and the subject matter is an excellent choice too (as well as educational :)
12-02-2005, 04:27 AM
