Latest Update: Modeling: very small update

One of my major issues with images created with 3d is that the image has to fit the medium. I've been thinking really hard about intense images that could be produced in 3d that would suite the medium. I was laying in bed last night and thinking what could I do that would refine my skills and it came to me, put a baby in traffic.
Some may feel that this is cruel but I think the prostration of innocence being in the middle of the road with speeding traffic would throw a hard punch straight to the groin. Not only that but place a serious accident happening mere feet in front of the child. I'm certain this is an idea I can go with. Ideas?

The idea is excellent , I think you may be on to something here.
How about having the baby on his/her knees reaching for a ball or some toy that made it's way out into the street, or maybe even a topled tricycle. That way it wont seem like gratuitous violence but more like an act of an irresponsible handler

 you and me are on the same page my friend. I was playing with that idea but I was thinking of a rattle :buttrock:

i had similar idea as well, guess you beat me to it.... so good luck :)

Or have someone on the side running towards the baby trying to reach it in time. This would build suspense...will he\she reach the child in time??

this has very big potential, will follow this thread like a fly that sticks to shit :p
09 September 2005, 08:53 PM
Yes, awesome idea - I'm watching closely!
09 September 2005, 08:55 PM
Here's the blocking of the scene. we'll see how well this works. I've got to think about camera angle. I like how low it is but I may have to tilt it a bit. It is early in the development so I'm pretty sure I'll be going with something slightly different. We'll see.
I think someone running into the scene may work but it may decrease the danger of the scene. I'm going to think about it. Thanks for the suggestions and interest, keep em coming and I'll keep the updates coming!

nice idea, keep it up... me like :)
09 September 2005, 09:38 PM
i'd try more widescreen picture format - more cinematic feel in this case is better ;)

I really like the concept. I think the piece could have a lot more emotion if the baby was facing the camera either a. crying and scared, or b. seemingly unaware of what is about to happen to him/her. Think of contrast as well. It might seem worse if it's a clear sunny day while this horrible thing is happening. Hope those help.

I like the idea has all kinds of possibilities. This will be one to watch. Good luck with it..

The sketch's very nice and very powerful. I really like it.

I agree with Azazel about the aspect ratio - a widescreen would be even better here. Looks promising at any rate, and I particularly like the car to the top right of the image, just the kind of thing you need to convey the sense of a stillframe from crash footage.

Hi Adrew... what a strong action here , excellent idea!

Kid Mesh, simon.wt, eYadNesS, Pgraphics, Yongkiat, jddog: Thank you all, I'm glad you like
azazel and JamesMK: The thought ran across my mind when before I rendered it. I agree with both of you. I believe it doesn't capture the full sense of danger because of the aspect ratio. I'll change that towards the end when I'm doing final composition but I believe modeling is next :deepbreath: :D

Mad idea! This is going to be great, I know it.

Just seeing the concept really sets an awesome presseance. Your idea is great but I do agree with OvidsMuse in that the baby should be facing camera or at least have the face more visible with a sense cluelessness of whats going on around him/her but with only intent on getting that rattle.
Good luck with the modeling, can't wait to see you bring this bad boy to life!

I like the whole concept but I guess I don't see how it's sectacular
09 September 2005, 07:40 PM
never mind that I miss understood the guild lines

really strong idea .

I haven't posted anything in awhile. Sorry about that, I've been busy with school and work. I did however get some modeling in.
Obviously I'm not done with these but it's a start. I've never done a car before so I figured I'd do one that's familiar to me, mine, which is fitting because someone hit it the other week. Unfortunately the damage isn't in the place I need it. I'll be modeling the damage shortly. The buildings are roughed in but at least they're started. I've actually started uv mapping the one on the left. I will display that later when I feel I've made sufficient progress.

Started modeling the baby, got basic edgeloops, etc. Not detailed and very ugly. Using zbrush for this kid. Gotta go to school.
09 September 2005, 06:59 AM
Good start on the modeling, the car in particular looks really solid already  The face of the child seems to be heading for some topological problems though, but I'm sure you're on top of things.

I decided I needed to know a few things about the scene and its composition. I placed some motion blur in there, I'm going to play with some depth of field for more drama as well. I added another vehicle. I think this better portrays the action I want. And James, I realize the face isn't as detailed in this stage as it will be. You're right, I'm on it. Not to worry.

I know I haven't put anything up for quite some time but I still intend on finishing. I've been extremely busy. I appologize to those following my thread. This is a very small update. still need to put toes on the kid and I want to make his face a bit more chubby. I'll be hashing out better details in zbrush in a bit.
