09-06-2005, 08:26 PM
I think a big family portrait with Squibbit, NOOB, Fahrija, Dimitris, JamesMK, et al would be Spectacular ~ you know, everyone wrapped up in white straighjackets!!! Spectacular!!! :scream:

ok.. here is the first concept sketch.. black haired amazons on white horses, evil warriors and a burning city :)

09-08-2005, 11:18 AM
Fahrija, Zepyhri: good to see you! :bounce: :buttrock:

09-08-2005, 11:23 AM
sounds promising... especially the 'black haired amazons' bit. ;)

Good luck in the challenge!

09-08-2005, 11:24 AM
oo yea nakid amazons!

don't make them too muscular and
broad shouldered now *shiver*

a more dramatic angle would be cool , like below the front
hooves of the rearing horse of the lead amazon..

09-08-2005, 11:31 AM
Ah yes I bet this one is going to be great! nice to see you and good luck!

09-08-2005, 11:44 AM
Why not... the subject can be great... I'm okay with squibie for angle, something more dramatic and strong will be better... but sorry, it's not easy to give a good advice with the little picture... I stay for more Benita... :arteest:

09-08-2005, 11:51 AM
sexy looking thumb, good luck dunkelgold

09-08-2005, 12:12 PM
duddlebug: :D haha! thanks! and best of luck to you too!

Squibbit: *searching for some broad shouldered bodybuilder women* :D noooooooo! dont worry - they will be lithe and lissom and beautiful, more elflike than amazonlike.. :)
and thanks for the hint with the camera angle - ill try some other compositions and angles later on.

Rudeone: good to see you! thanks!

Lemog: haha! i thought that myself: "why not?" im not sure what this will be in the end and if ill be able to finnish it.. but how could i miss all this fun? :D yep, cameraangle could be more dramatic.. and i think ill add some more storytelling elements.. thanks for looking! :)

spyroteknik: thanks! :) and good luck!

09-08-2005, 12:19 PM

or a demongirl discovering angelwings growing out of her back..

im still letting the ideas flow..

09-08-2005, 05:28 PM

rock on

09-08-2005, 05:35 PM
wow, that is a nice idea benita. it reminds me somehow of some stubid little flash film with a little demon and an angle putto.

by the way: i had no worries :) i found it somehow cool, that you had white horses too *gg*. mine will be an albino with some tech stoff on it, so it would be not really similar.

09-08-2005, 05:45 PM
Nice! I like the color direction here... I especially like the twist in the narrative. Looking forward to more.

09-08-2005, 05:57 PM
mybutterflyiris: cant .... take..... the.... pressure! :D

Squibbit: :buttrock: :)

Llynna: thanks! :) haha ok.. good to know..:D

botched: thanks :)

09-08-2005, 06:03 PM
Lovely concepts, both great subject choices. I get more excited about the secondary, but thats more to do with my love of anything demonic or angelic than anything else.

It would be great to see some kind of narritve as to WHY she's growing angel wings... just some hint that she's not as wicked as she, or anyone else thought. Actually, thinking about it, it would be easier to do that the other way round... an angel suddenly discovering the first nub of horns growing on her head after she does something bad.
Both concepts have lovely lighting and atmosphere, though, so I'm guessing whatever you go with will be great.

09-08-2005, 06:07 PM
heehee that's a cool idea! :D Looking forward to seeing what else you come up with :)

09-08-2005, 06:29 PM
Lol I love the angel wings idea. Very cute!

09-08-2005, 07:08 PM
Oh yeah... I LOVE that second concept! Can you imagin discovering budding wings growing out of your back?! COOL!

Keep 'em comin' Benita... they're great!

09-08-2005, 08:30 PM
Yo ! I agree : your last concept is the best :bounce::bounce::bounce:
Staying tuned for more...

09-08-2005, 10:38 PM
Definately the wings idea  very interesting. I'll wait for more progress.

09-08-2005, 11:37 PM
thank you! its a big help with the decision! *joy* :)

09-09-2005, 12:09 AM
Cool use of colors. Great contrast between the reds and greens. Can't wait to see more.

09-09-2005, 01:40 AM
Wtf! thats great! a demon with angel wings in the mirror, interesting!

09-09-2005, 02:00 AM
cool colors.. maybe some more ornate fixtures in the wall and more space, the thumb seems very confining to me. cant wait to see more :)

09-09-2005, 02:21 AM
very interesting approach, the mirror plays a big role in this!keep it coming benita:)

09-09-2005, 02:36 AM
Beautiful concepts you have there, Benita. Of the two, I see a lot of potential in the "girl growing wings" concept.

All the best. :)

J Cae
09-09-2005, 06:27 AM
Not to mess up your plan or anything, I personally prefer the first concept. The mirror concept is good too, but it's kinda been done before. I know you probably have really great ideas to make it stand out--but it's up to you.

I like the first concept. I think it has a much higher potential to be 'spectacular'. There are so many elements in the painting you can easily weave in many stories or themes in the painting.

Anyway, I'm rambling. I hope to see your art real soo :D.

09-09-2005, 07:45 AM
The second concept is just great! There are so much finesse and charming flirtation in your second sketch. I love the mixture of demoniacal and ironical. I will waiting for the next stages... I believe in you ;)

09-09-2005, 07:50 AM

a) Beautifull concept...i would love to see this how it's gonna look finished.

b) Lady ...u have top notch Avatar..:)

c) Lady ...u have top notch Avatar..:)

e) Lady ...u have top notch Avatar..:bounce:

Have fun...subscription mode ON.

09-09-2005, 07:54 AM
mmmmh... :bounce: :bounce: :bounce: Without doubt, this one is greater... a picture which speak me very easily yet... a good thing

Then, for me... if you run with this one, I'm totally with you girl :scream: :applause:

09-09-2005, 10:31 AM
OMG!!this looks beautifull!! :applause:

09-09-2005, 03:55 PM
Your concepts are looking great so far!

09-09-2005, 08:50 PM
thats great mate.. really love taht demon angel wing idea

09-09-2005, 09:01 PM
had me thinking 'spectacular *ss' ... ima gona go sit in the corner over there...

good luck, I'm liking your current colours, nice balance and emotive potency.

09-10-2005, 12:42 AM
Hi Benita, great concepts, both of them. The amazons burning the village would be a spectacular sight to see (with all the fire and all going on). The devil sprouting angel wings is great (and if you get that shocked look, comical aslo), but maybe a little less...spectacular (but I still love the concept). I hope you decide on something soon.

09-10-2005, 04:53 AM
nice update!love ur color a lot.:bounce:
can't wait for more.

09-10-2005, 10:30 AM
I think a big family portrait with Squibbit, NOOB, Fahrija, Dimitris, JamesMK, et al would be Spectacular ~ you know, everyone wrapped up in white straighjackets!!! Spectacular!!! :scream:
Nah, seriously, I'm sure you'll come up with something awesome!!! :bounce::bounce::bounce:
I didnt see my name there/
*hrmpf* :P
*waves at Benita. Sorry am just seeing this. Goodluck girl!

09-10-2005, 03:13 PM
ooh looking nice!

09-10-2005, 07:55 PM
thanks a lot for your comments! good suggestions - ill think it over.. (should better start painting and stop thinking, hehe..)

in fact i was learning all day for an exam.. so theres not much time to paint in the moment.. but i did my learning-pensum for today and now is wacom time! hooray! :bounce:

Dimitris, thanks a lot.. sooo sweet! :)

everybody, rock on! you are great!:bounce:

09-10-2005, 09:06 PM
benita, I prefer your second concept for it has four keywords that I think would be able to deliver a great spectacle: mask, demons, angelwings & mirrors. :D

the amazones concept has a lot of potential as well, however I would explore if there are possibly better backgrounds than razing a city. a great element that you brought up is the point that they are naked and thus appear vulnerable, that could be a great contrast to any opposition they have to face and it nearly automatically underlies them with a melancholy tone.

Ah well, I know you will find the right road.

09-10-2005, 09:09 PM
I agree with Solothores ... and please dont learn so much :P

09-10-2005, 09:11 PM
for it has four keywords that I think would be able to deliver a great spectacle: mask, demons, angelwings & mirrors. :D

uhh.. u forgot nakid girlie ... dummy..

09-10-2005, 09:12 PM
oh my... you are right, make that five keywords benita!

09-10-2005, 09:22 PM
What is happenin' in da world of benita, keep it up I am waitin' impatiently for an update, hurry or I am gonna go crazy!:banghead: :banghead: :banghead: I May even beat you up!:argh:  Mwahahahaha!

09-10-2005, 10:21 PM
Solothores, hahahahaha thanks for the comment! the amazons would of course NOT be naked but dressed with little shiny armours and ornate dragonskullhelmets.. :D but im still not sure which road to go.. i think ill try to get the jadefox finnished first..

Vahn: i will do only the inevitable :)

Squibbit: but it would not be naked! there would of course be some tasteful drapery! :wise:

beelow: looks like i have to come up with something quick  haha - ok i will try something!

everybody thanks for pushing me :D *starts painting*

09-10-2005, 11:41 PM
Wau! a woman watching her reflection in the mirror! Very cool concept as far as iam inside that room:D:eek: really cool, i and can only expect some gorgeous render from you! Good luck

09-11-2005, 01:02 AM
a woman watching her reflection in the mirror!

hahahah :D ok.. i have to change my concept.. its really not that spectacular..

i should have joined a bit later, me thinks..

*trashes both concepts and waits for inspiration*

09-11-2005, 01:26 AM
hi, that's great concept, I always loved the idea of image in the mirror, I'm just not sure if it falls in spectacular range, I'm mean it's a grat pic, but.. maybe if this whole scene was in a part of a ruins or sometthing like wreck bulding with missing walls, overloking the ocean, just thinking, I'm still trying to figure this out :applause:

09-11-2005, 01:05 PM
Hi, i didnt want to sound sarcastic, never my intention:)

i do agree with Korline. Its a great concept and im sure you can make it even more spectacular.
Anyway if you want to brainstorm a little bit more, Great!

09-11-2005, 01:25 PM
ah ok.. :)

anyways: brainstorming-mode on :D

Shadow Seraph
09-11-2005, 01:26 PM
I have always had a thing for Demons and Angels so I look forward to seeing where this goes, but truly I think it can be a wonderful idea and have quite a bit of sexual intimacy to it to bring it a divine dark beauty. Looking forward to more.

09-11-2005, 01:28 PM
*whistles tune*... dum, dee do... *checks watch, waits for update*... grumbles impatiently :D

C'mon Benita... we're on the edge of our seats here! Share the love... UPDATE UPDATE UPDATE!:scream:

09-11-2005, 02:55 PM
hm, you could do an infernal carnivale (just like the venezian one) in this huge barroqueske-demonique mirror-room, a monumental work featuring dozens of lords and ladies straight from hell, all uniquely styled and dressed up for participating in this major happening to praise their heir of hell, dancing, chatting, laughing all in overexpressed grimaces, like a derision on the human kind - the spectacular point would be the reflection of the mirror room, reveiling the horrid true forms of the crowd, surprisingly we stumble over this pair of angels as well that infiltrated the happening, realising that their reflection betrayed their true nature to the very unholy himself, fitting as arrogant as the roi de soleil his grande throne on which he grins "tim-curry"-like and gazes diabolique at his unwelcomed guests in all their angelwinged glory! Of course, some nakid girls have to be incorporated as well, since they are a major point of the composition! :p

09-13-2005, 09:09 AM
Hey Benita...I really like the second one as a general picture, but you want to watch that sneaky bit in the rules about being "within the realms of possibility". I'm assuming that means no demon people? Ach well, I'm sure your brainstorming will come out with a brilliant idea...drink lots of coffee O_o caffiene is full of inspiration!

09-14-2005, 08:28 AM
hey benita, how is it going? I stumbled over this interesting essay (http://gutenberg.spiegel.de/dahn/walhall/walh016.htm) (german) regarding mythological creatures, maybe it helps in providing you some inspiration. :)

09-14-2005, 10:34 AM
hey dunkelgold, just seeing what is goin' on in your thread, I hope you to terms with a spectacular Idea!, will be back, lata!

09-14-2005, 05:06 PM

09-14-2005, 06:05 PM

hi there, i nearly forgot about the contest! *shakes head*

squibbit, jose, djampa, beelow: thanks for cheering me up! :)

i have been really busy with some offtopic work.. (and i had a really bad "ill never paint again + my work sucks big time" - artists block.. bh..)
guess ive missed all the fun this time - too late to get something finnished..

at the moment i am scribbling around with this one.. (artists block is 80% away! *joy*) but i think the theme is not really "spectacular".. just a girl getting a disturbing message from a raven..

practise, practise... :arteest:

There's always next time! This new one is really nice, I like the mood alot, good portfolio piece.

BTW your work is very good, dont doubt your self, there will always be others to do that for you. We all have room to grow in our skills, there is no such thing as perfect art.

pretty nice pic that girl and raven, been watching its progress on yourr website,
nice to see it whole for the first time, instead of the select closeup shots

nice to see you again :)

My english is too poor to really exprim my feeling front of this picture...

How to describe that... maybe the Spectacular is really in your realization... oustanding and so perfect for me... I'm in love with your art, with this incredible picture...

Congratulation... I was afraid to doesn't see before some update, but this one, of course... totally fill my hopes about you... I also sure you make fantastic progress in your art, in your skills... I'm totally under the charm of this image... Cheers Benita...

...already five stars for you  I just hope for you the best for the final steps

jose: thanks a lot for your kind words :) ahhhhrg damn perfectionism! :bounce: it can be a good motor to get things through but it also feels like living with a loud voiced nit-picky person 24/7
im really looking forward to the next challenge. i hadnt much chance to scan through the threads so far but ill come and visit later on. cu around!

squibbit: huhuuuuuu nightowl! good to see you too! oh this isnt the whole pic either, the whole thing is much higher.. glad you like it so far! *waves* :)

lemog: thank you so much! ill try to finnish it but i dont think 7 days will be enough.. *sighs* maybe with some extra nightshifts.. but thanks for the encouragement again! and ill visit later to see what you are up to!

Mega! Traumhaft, juhuuuu! (hoff dein artistblock is weg) love the piece, its just beautifull!

11-30-2005, 01:42 PM
I like the atmosphere of your latest, and the sketchy feel to the forest. What's the disturbing message from the raven?

11-30-2005, 04:05 PM
Hi, Benita!
Sorry you won't be able to finish your spectacular piece... Will you get around to it someday?
In the meantime, this piece looks really nice. Her face is beautiful, especially the lighting and small details on it. Her eyes aren't quite connecting with the raven yet, but that's just my opinion.

Funny, too. I just finished and posted on my site a piece with a girl and several ravens myself... only, as you would expect from me, much more goofy looking. And watercolor, not digital. Must be something in the air... :)

Anyhow, take care and be well, and thanks for keeping us updated.

the1st_angel: juhuuu! yes, artists block is away, thanks!
btw, your fighting cuty-ladies look so gorgeous (i was peeking in silently) good luck and rock on!

Baron Impossible: im just coming back from your website - got caught in your photogallery.. the descriptions are really something.. so funny! the one with the man admiring the chapel! hahaha!
as for the message: to be honest, i have no idea, what the raven is talking about.. could have something to do with the spell of some high ranking black mage.. but im not sure right now..

mike: hi! yes.. this time too many stuff got in the way.. but im sure this concept will come to life some other day.. ive always loved demon and angel themes..
just saw the ravenpic on your website: beautiful illustration.. love the literally "raven-black" hair of the little girl - so cute!
maybe its the season? in this time of the year berlin is full of ravens and in the afternoon hundreds of them fly in swarms in direction of the setting sun..
good luck and cu around!

beelow: thanks for popping in :)
no worries, ill be around next time.. and its also nice to lean back and enjoy the show with some snacks instead of the tablet in reaching distance ;)
i wish you the best for your entry and thanks for the kind words - its very appreciated.
good luck!

Hi Benita,

Ups & downs are there on our path, but keep in mind that it is just normal, never give up, keep going, you are very much talented, and ultra high potential for masterpieces of art.

I wish your block go away 100% soon, take a rest now, relax, and back to practice with new energy, contest is contest, it is here for us to test ourselves and learn from others too, and get better and better in our artwork. My last chalenge I got devastated on the middle of the process by a huge amount of work.
Now storms passed and I am working fulltime on my short, next year who knows?? Ups, downs, blocks, sadness, happiness... try to keep your mind in center and look at the good side of thinigs, and things will become easier.

Take care, and I will be here waiting to see your new pieces of art, will be watching you closely.

Good luck and my best wishes!
