hey buddy, have fun :)
09 September 2005, 04:33 PM
Thanx buddy. I already tried to upload something, but i got a weird SQL error or something.
09 September 2005, 04:35 PM
welcome! Good luck with the challenge. Quite a few people seem to have had this SQL error thing. Someone mentioned it was when they used a commor ' in their words such as "it's"
Hope you manage to post!
09 September 2005, 04:36 PM
Hope this one works now? got a weird error earlier.
09 September 2005, 04:39 PM
I tried to type in less stuff to work around it and it worked.
So my first concept is cool tank action. Next one will be.. something else i think..
09 September 2005, 04:41 PM

09 September 2005, 04:40 PM
enialadam, NOOB!, Yongkiat: Thanx. I'll be looking towards your artwork also. :)
SoniaNotRed: Yeah i have been reserving some powers for this challenge and i have also been trying to do music. With various success dare i say. Good luck! Nice to be back
the1st_angel: Sure gonna be a show! Dont know about the great part. thanx :)
Fahrija, ace4016, -tolga-, The Witch, sh@ke : Big hello to you too! Lets have a great challenge 3 months to go! So good luck to you guys too!
NinjaASSN: Im glad you have you dare to think so . It just takes a bit longer to boil up a great idea in my head to put it out on a picture.
ok update time! :wip:
09 September 2005, 04:45 PM
Oh so there is futuristic helicopter chasing a cool slightly cartoonish realistic tank.
Im trying to depict some heroic "spectacular" action.
At the moment it really looks like an alien face. I dont even know are we allowed to do such things anyway? Well ill make it look like a chopper a lot more.
There will also be humans specially on the tank.
09 September 2005, 05:31 PM
Interesting what you have going good luck to ya holla!
09 September 2005, 05:51 PM
NIce to see you around dude. Goodluck and i'll be keeping up.
09 September 2005, 06:13 PM
Good luck with your vision!:)
09 September 2005, 06:16 PM
I dont have a clue whats going on but its an awsome composition. :) i think you defined 'spectacular' very well.
09 September 2005, 06:39 PM
Quite interesting I must say....although I can't really make out what it is about at the moment. You might wanna have a short description about your piece. Are going with a more abstract style?
09 September 2005, 11:01 AM
beelow, Arc80, Gonzalo Golpe, CodeNothing, wraithdt
Thanx for hanging around
Yeah as you might have guessed i have no clue whatsoever. Im just trying to make a pretty picture and try to make some sense in it later on. Yup thats about it..
Here is the next picture what shall be the lineart milestone
09 September 2005, 11:03 AM
Uhm lets keep at it... Wonder what will emerge from it.
09 September 2005, 11:06 AM
Nice update Falcor! It looks fantastic, original style and idea. Keep great work!
09 September 2005, 05:05 PM
Lets apply some color.
09 September 2005, 06:36 PM
wow i absolutely love the colors in your sketches, they are gorgious! the first one especially...
yeah even though you say you have no idea what its gonna be yet the pictures still give off a great feeling. my favorite is definitely the first one! get a sense of wonder from it...or something like that.
anyway, im sure whatever you end up doing will be awesome!
09 September 2005, 06:37 PM
Hello Falcor !!
Nice to meet you again. Wow you have so beautiful colors here. Thumbnail is very nice and big one too :)
Light is very interesting too. What is the idea behind this ? (oups maybe you already told it ? ..)
See you soon dude. Just keep up etc.etc..:)
09 September 2005, 07:04 PM
Nice colors! Looks like your gazing up through dense forest, light shining down on you.
09 September 2005, 08:20 PM
cool colors and perspective, can't wait to see this to develop.
Ja hyvä Suomi!
09 September 2005, 06:59 PM
Please dont ask me what it is. I'll know when its ready.
Thanx everybody for the precious comments :) !!
09 September 2005, 12:25 AM
the color scheme is absolutly fantastic,... but yea.. what is that? :D
maybe.. that is an underwater view from some sort of tunnel, towards the surface. And the concept behind this is that someone is pumping the water out? :)
09 September 2005, 12:36 AM
dude beatifull colors
and the whay you do it no more this realistic bs
remainds me Monet a bit
:bounce: :bounce: :bounce: :bounce: :bounce:
09 September 2005, 01:04 AM
Please dont ask me what it is. I'll know when its ready.
haha, guess your not going with the helicopter chase then. Can't wait 'till it makes some sense, looks great without it making sense though. Keep at it.
09 September 2005, 06:18 AM
O.K. > to me the sketch shows a section of a giant surface structure where an energie ray comes out of it. Around this scene are flying little different vechicles. I´m looking forward to see what it really is.
good choice of colors. I particularly like the painterly look of the brush strokes.
09 September 2005, 03:26 PM
NinjaASSN: Maybe :) Thanx for the visit man!
Korline: Wish i could be good as Monet. Thanx for popping by!
ace4016: Sure thing dude! Gonna be some sense in my picture when the month turns to december.
Fahrija: Cool idea, but here is a surprise for you! Thanx!
my ideas are starting to flow into the no sense picture. Did you guys expect something like this?! Guess not! :bounce:
09 September 2005, 03:27 PM
The penquins are coming!
09 September 2005, 04:25 PM
wow wonderful colours! The penguins look really cool :D nice work hehe
09 September 2005, 04:28 PM
Thanx everybody for the visit so far :)
Umm the penquins look really silly. I should go hunt for photo reference later on.. Just gotta make everything else perfect before switch to finalizing penquins... i think...
I wonder what the pic will be when its finished. Propably better than this version. I hope!
09 September 2005, 05:42 PM
I'e never seen someone work the way you do, it's fascinating.. how much playing around do you do to get to each of the stages you have here? Does it happen first time, or do you simply try thins and stop when they work? Do lines suggest things to you which you then act on, or do you have an idea of what you're doing, just not exactly?
Wow, sorry, twenty questions, I'll rein myself in! It's just such an amazing way to work, and so different from my own. I really love the way its coming on, though the penguins are kind of distracting from the amazing sense of motion an energy and light you had with the pre-penguin pics.. but it's still in progress, so I'll wait to see how it goes.
09 September 2005, 05:53 PM
Hey there Zepyhri :scream:
If you wanna see weird work flow go seek down my machine flesh entry. Its pretty notorious specially the concept sketch.
I'll try to make the penguins react with the surrounding lighting and give them sense of speed by slightly blurring them. They are there for being guide. Otherwise my stuff will so weird and out of this world. So they remind us correct size ratios.
Ummm and i think my title for this piece will be Secret of Antarctis
yeah about my workflow.. It really depends on what i am trying to achieve. If im absolutely sure i need cartoon style artwork ill propably work to make linework special and accurate, but when going for painterly look i keep a lots of suggestive shapes.. As im currently working as texture artist. I tend to think of surface properties.. I dont exactly draw what im thinking, rather the surface structure. Like if something is suppose to have hard edges and hilites. I just madly skribble down hard edges with overlay layer to achieve it. After that i just "push and pull" things to my liking.
Now i almost made sense.. Here is the truth.. Its only matter of luck!
09 September 2005, 08:15 PM
Woaaaa!!! Look at all the pretty lights! :D
That's cool, man! And it's one of the most original ideas in Challenge, too!
09 September 2005, 08:19 PM
i'm not sure what is going on in the background, but I *love* the colors!!
09 September 2005, 08:32 PM
Man you keep surprising with your skills!
This is just.. awesome.
I don't know what's going on, but it looks just great! :D
09 September 2005, 08:52 PM
Amazing colors going on there! Well...spectacular!:)
09 September 2005, 08:57 AM
I love it
09 September 2005, 09:26 AM
NIce colors, man keep it up, holla!
09 September 2005, 10:26 AM
Penquins are hidden for a while. Think ill finish up the background before them. But hopefully they will work even if ill be doing in this particular order.
Any ideas and critique is welcome. It will propably help me make sense into this work.
Ofcourse big applause to people visiting :) Thanx guys & girls!
09 September 2005, 06:18 PM
what is hapenig here  ?Is it god,is it monster or giant robot? And does penguins flying or swiming.I miss those penguins  .Good luck!!
09 September 2005, 08:22 PM
I like that beam. One thing though, the circular base of it seems a bit flat? Curious to see what the rest of the scene will look like. Looks like you got a structure above the beam thing, know what it is or just waiting for it to reveal itself?
09 September 2005, 08:37 PM
sepi: Thanx! Wait and see what it is. Penquins will be coming back once ive worked enough with the background. :)
ace4016: I actually have most of the picture planned at the moment, but lets wait and see will things improve :wise: .. Thanx for the comment! That circular base is kinda tough to pull through looking cool. So ive been kinda putting it off for a while. It will get better. I hope.
09 September 2005, 04:59 AM
Very nice colours and the texturing is looking great
A lot of cool actions going on too. Me want to see more :bounce:
09 September 2005, 04:48 PM
Not much difference, but i felt like it was time to update!
Thanx for the visit man!
09 September 2005, 03:49 AM
Very intense energy and colors. I agree that the penguins (or something else "recognizeable") will give the image a better sense of scale. Maybe some explorers or something?
Keep up the good work.
09 September 2005, 04:04 PM
Penguins are here!
Humans are here also!!
With their crazed hydrocopters. Doing research work. Not killing penguins of course.
09 September 2005, 06:03 PM
penguins yeee!!! :applause:
I think one hydrocopter is enough and penguins now is to much, this is only my opinion.
09 September 2005, 07:29 PM
I agree that there are too many penguins.. I came up with idea to turn the most of the penquins into swarm of fishes. I gotta keep the balance and cut of the lower part beam.
Which hydrocopter would you keep? Personally id like to keep them all and try to adjust them with shading. I want the weight of the pic to be at the center. Single hydrocopter could easily pull the pictures balance away from the center.
09 September 2005, 07:52 PM
I dont now witch copter you could leave,it is your desision.I think copter angle is funny, maybe you should rotate it little bit and also copter size seems to be to small.Jatka samaan tahtiin
10 October 2005, 01:26 AM
I like the numebr of penguins, but that's just me. With the hydrocopters, if you're going to have them there, maybe flip the side the middle on is in and get rid of the front and back ones:shrug: . Keep the randomness coming.
10 October 2005, 05:11 PM
Thanx for the visit guys.
some work on the hydrocopter.
10 October 2005, 11:40 AM
More work on the hydrocopter. Think i'll concentrate on the other areas which are unfinished for now.
Like penguins and fishes? Maybe.
10 October 2005, 11:45 AM
thats some nmice colouring on the copter there...
10 October 2005, 11:57 AM
great stuff, dude! now full speed till the end!
10 October 2005, 12:02 PM
Hey, Falcor! This is better and better every update. I like it very much, ships looks great, keep on rocking!
10 October 2005, 03:48 PM
Wow, this look amazing. Great color scheme, and original aircraft as well. Keep it up!
10 October 2005, 06:30 PM
:D Good to see you in the competition Falcor_.... seems a long time since the Machineflesh Challenge and I've missed a couple due to work, so good to see you're taking part.
Love the concept and like the idea of the hydrocopter. Nice textures behind as well.
I agree about the penguins...a few less and some great fish would look really good - maybe even use some stranger marine life - depending on how deep this scene is set.
Great work and look forward to seeing more soon :applause:
10 October 2005, 02:10 AM
looking good falcor~that chopper rendering is amazing~cool stuff.keep'em coming~!:scream:
10 October 2005, 04:46 AM
The lighting and texture look great! Can't wait to see more progress!
10 October 2005, 07:39 AM
Wow, good colors and great stuff. It's developing very nicely!
The uni-5 rocks! Keep it up..
10 October 2005, 03:17 PM
Incredible response! :bounce:
Hey i did a quick plant test ... And i think .. well ummm
What do you guys think? I think this will be more to the direction im going!
Some brownish leaf like seaweed. And tubeworm kinda beings on the right corner.. And few penguins trying to find the perfect spot in the picture.
10 October 2005, 03:19 PM
Plant idea :)
Maybe something like this.
10 October 2005, 05:54 PM
hmmm...the idea is good..but the penguins don't fitttt...what do you think...you could try some deep sea fish or a vampire squid or weird jellyfish..i don't know...but it looks brilliant!
10 October 2005, 07:20 PM
nice coloring... the 'ship' looks great.. keep it up!
10 October 2005, 06:31 AM
Just awesome!! :bounce:
10 October 2005, 06:44 AM
The underwater atmosphere is looking great. The hydrocopter design and texturing is awesome!I dont know about the penguins though. Maybe they are too big right now.
10 October 2005, 12:23 PM
Cool hydrocopters! :applause: Original concept!
You'll have to watch out for the penguins, now - all those big blades cutting through the water... :D
Love the contrast between the red and the light blue.
10 October 2005, 02:40 PM
Hey, Juha, sorry I haven't dropped in in a while. This is looking really good! The underwater craft design is very cool.
I like that you have set this underwater. I am sure that when some of the larger details get more complete, it will be really nice to also see some smaller underwater details like bubbles and air pockets. Overall, I think there could be more in the scene to help indicate the underwaterness of it: The bubbles, more blue in the colors, caustic lighting... Anyhow, I know you'll have plenty of chance to polish this all to perfection. Good luck and have fun! :)
10 October 2005, 01:11 PM
Heres a little more progress.
Thanx everybody for the visit!
I'll keep all the ideas in my head so keep saying anything what pops to your head while looking at this one
10 October 2005, 05:54 PM
Im just venting up my brain.. Too much penguins and underwater.. *bleh*
Of course im trying to finish up my entry with them, but im already hitting my skill limit with it.. So theres less fun involved.
So here is a spectacular backup concept.
Dont worry guys my priorities are set. Just one evening of sillyness.
10 October 2005, 06:01 PM
huh, Im glad that u r staying with the penguisn and all that... that one of the freakest pieces I've ever seen I think... no logic in it (that I could find) but yet so cool! Awesome, just awesome man :D U have my vote for that pic, even that there isnt any public voting.
10 October 2005, 07:27 AM
For a second there i thought you changed your idea. This sketch looks cool and very consistant in style. Will check back again to see more update on the penguins. Dude, that under water craft looks tight. Love the design of it
keep it coming mate
10 October 2005, 03:00 AM
Great updates, i've been away for a few weeks:p . If this entire scene is underwater, i think you'll have to give the entire scene a blue-green tint (the hyrdocopters and penguins stand out because of their white mainly). Keep the randomness coming:thumbsup: .
10 October 2005, 10:48 AM
NinjaASSN: Thanx man  I think i like it too ill propably try to finish that one after this challenge artwork and try to upload it to the finished section if it looks any decent.
Arc80: :) thank you!
ace4016: Here is an update for you what do you think? I gave the whole scene a blue color and added some caustics and all.
10 October 2005, 10:51 AM
Back on the right piece.
Venting helped out a bit, but it seems harder and harder to make the picture any better each update. Think i should call it finished soon?
Guess ill try to use all the time alloted for the challenge to push it even further.
Some better lighting and blueish hue to everything... Better or worse?
10 October 2005, 04:11 PM
Some bubbles.. also i decided that i need more brain to the background.
So i i placed some guides there.
Interesting thing i encountered with the bubbles. How does a bubble in water differ from a bubble in air?
10 October 2005, 04:18 PM
I love your blending, your piece is quite beautiful, and the progression is a great joy, seeing each piece coming together. Wonderful job.
10 October 2005, 10:14 PM
The bubbles look great.
This just keeps getting better. I can see you've been really feeling inspired this Challenge. :)
10 October 2005, 11:34 PM
Looks more underwaterish now:bounce: . A bubble in water looks thicker and more fluid then a bubble in air....to me atleast. Some parts on the hyrdocopter look a bit over exposed by the light, mayeb try bringing the white value down a bit? Looks like you've made a lot of improvement (actually, you've improved on each challenge), keep it up:thumbsup: .
11 November 2005, 11:01 AM
Shadow Seraph: Thanx :)
SoniaNotRed: Thanx! Well it would be actually easier to get more accurate guidelines to what to draw. Like draw a pretty face or something like that. I tend to get confused when the topic is kinda free.
ace4016: I'll think about it. Thanx!
Ok here is an update.
11 November 2005, 11:05 AM
I tried to make more sense it to the structure, but i failed various times. It seems i should call the piece finished soon.
Just work some areas to be slightly more accurate.
11 November 2005, 11:32 AM
 This is looking good Falcor_...
Really nice attention to detail on sea plants and penguins. Love the water textures and really coming together. It's still quite abstract in terms of what's going on behind the hydrocopter, but really really nice and mysterious...keep up the great work
11 November 2005, 06:35 PM
Great work, it's really become something thats very cool!
My only comment is that there could be more atmospheric perspective for the things that are far away.
11 November 2005, 06:54 PM
I love the pinguins.
I have to admit I didn't think it'd turn this good when I saw on an earlier stage, but I'm really liking it now :D
11 November 2005, 04:42 AM
nicce concept i think it could go alot further the peguins are a nice touch but its definately the structure it shohld be more beautiful and have more focus i think the portal thing may be to over powering
still very nice good luck
11 November 2005, 09:13 AM
Hi! The stunning lighting and colors! The great details! Good luck! :)
11 November 2005, 09:27 AM
I am sureprised :buttrock:
11 November 2005, 06:26 PM
Beautiful work! , the atmosphere is very well transferred!
11 November 2005, 07:01 PM
I think u can call this piece finished without any worries. U really did a marvelous job here, and how everything started, with some messy colors on the canvas, I admire u :) Bubbles look fantastic and in general I really dont have much to crit. Congratulations buddy!
11 November 2005, 12:57 AM
wow! from now on u always do cool stuff like this?
cool! thanks ! yay! carry on!
11 November 2005, 07:39 PM
MrFreeman: thanx man! I'll try to introduce some brain into my work :surprised
tAsty BITs: thanx! hopefully my new update is making more sense when it comes to atmosphere
Lady Medusa: Well im as equally surprised!
lynch: Thanx! i'll keep the tips in my mind
Atris: Thanx! Good luck to you!
PSych: Thanx! :)
Nikolay: Hopefully it will become some sort of inspiration for you
NinjaASSN: I was just about to drop working on it, but i my ideas have been rejuvinated!.. I actually enjoy working on the higher and finer details. I usually drop this stage away from my works. I realised that trying to bring new elements to the picture what is hindering me. I should focus more on to how to make current scene spectacular!
Squibbit: Thanx! Yeah silly me. Never thought of doing cool stuff before. duh! :buttrock:
11 November 2005, 07:42 PM
Im trying to bring the picture white point to more realistic level.
Also i introduced some seaweed and moss to the machine. Not finalized
Bubbles finetuned and stuff like that.
Overall atmosphere fine tuning
I'll keep on going forth!
11 November 2005, 08:33 PM
 Hi Falcor_....
Those extra details really make all the difference. I love the atmosphere of the image and you really feel like you are underwater, which is really hard to achieve. The bubbles and highlights really do add a lot of depth and give a better sense of space.
Really looking spectacular..keep up the great work...you must be nearly there... :applause: :applause:
11 November 2005, 12:48 AM
Really turned out nice, great stuff Falcor, really stunning piece, good luck!
11 November 2005, 05:57 PM
Simply stunning work. There is just so much going on I could spend hours lost in the details. My only crit is I cant make out exactly what is in the background. Is there impending danger or is it an exploration to find something, and if so, what is it? The piece is most definitely intriguing and I honestly cant get over the amount of detail youve put... I can only imagine the amount of work it must have taken to get this far. Definitely one of the strongest images I have seen so far.
11 November 2005, 09:54 PM
nice job juha, fantastic design! and is the proportion between the machine and the penguin ok? the machne seems a little small, anyway this piece is:thumbsup:
11 November 2005, 02:07 AM
Wow, dude. This piece is great. I love the hydrocopter design. This has a great mysterios feel to it.
11 November 2005, 05:28 AM
Looks fantastic! Really nice atmosphere. It already look quite finished. Just try to pay extra attention for edge qualities. Currently there seems to be alot rough and sharp edged stuff, Mostly on the seaplants on the left corner. Some blurriness here and there should do the trick. Second thing that doesn't feel so comfortable is the circular design on the submarine. I think it should be more round like than that ellipsal (< is that a word? ;) ) in perspective like that. Anyway, Thumbs up!!!
11 November 2005, 05:22 PM
MrFreeman: thanx! Yeah im there .. im all game!
beelow: thanx! Your work is spectacular also! :)
Mecha Hate Chimp: thanx! I bet your underwater scene will be way more better looking and realistic. So im waiting for your finished artwork :)
3dmiao: I hope the size is ok.. That machine is about 4-5 meter tall only.. So basically its one man or two man explorer hydrocopter. Thanx!
zpapageo: :) thanx!
TeemuR: Thanx man! What are you doing with your entry? Still doing concept sketches?? awww man you gotta sharpen up your mind and start delivering that final piece! I dunno about that elliptical desing.. Maybe if i would have used 3D program it would be nice and tight. Now well i just gotta believe ive done everything right!
ok. .. just announcement.. My picture is finished!
Or atleast i dont see very good reason to keep tinkering the details when the problems lie beneath somewhere else. :bounce: :deal:
gotta upload it. And write that story of sorts.
11 November 2005, 05:34 PM
In year 2008 a research station is built upon antarctis. That station is Halley VI. Four years after the building the station and occupuing it with researchers and explorers a new time of Antarctis study begins.
Year 2012 New hydrocopter design is delivered to the brave people in Halley VI
British Antarctic Survey (BAS) approved the new hydrocopter which was designed to work in the cold climate.
Few penguin nature photographers were staying at the station and they found out a new strange hole in the mainland of antarctis. It was thought of being normal thermal geysir, but a huge uproar and amazed occured after people came to conclusion it was man made 12.000 years ago.
Hydrocopter was instantly approved to be the machine researching the new thermal geoduct. Its non pollution propulsion system and small turning rate were put to instant use.
11 November 2005, 05:36 PM
excellent, really good pic dude!
11 November 2005, 05:48 PM
Congrats for finishing your piece! :bounce:
Like I already said, it looks fantastic! Nice color choices!
Btw. My entry is doing just fine! hehe! ;)
11 November 2005, 07:56 PM

We need more finnish pictures.. OK?
Final tif has been uploaded! This picture is also my biggest finished artwork. Its 5000 x 3750 pixels.. Zipped tiff was 47 megs. So im glad im no longer using dialup and have to wait 8 hours or more to have it uploaded.
So now this challenge is over for me. And i can start waiting for the next challenge. I wonder what it will be all about.
Good luck to the challengers! :bounce: :applause:
