09-05-2005, 01:40 PM
Good luck Steven - loved your work in the last challenge!

09-05-2005, 05:06 PM
Thanks for the welcome folks. Now all i need to do is find out a way of adapting my style to the subject matter. Beer and a few episodes of Southpark should be enough to get me brain kickstarted.....' The world gets overthrown by hippies', dam i wished i'd thought of that.

09-05-2005, 05:11 PM
Beer and a few episodes of Southpark should be enough to get me brain kickstarted.....
:scream: for sure !

This is a quick sketch to give you an idea of what i want to do. Nothing like what the final image composition will be. I have never attempted an image like this before, i usually work on caricatures, so i'm looking forward to the challenge of trying something new.

09-06-2005, 04:32 PM
Attaching myself to your thread. Gonna watch this with interest.

09-06-2005, 04:44 PM
Thanks for dropping by Miketche, will always be glad to know what you think

09-06-2005, 08:25 PM
mmm a Magritte feeling ?
This is very very original and you have bring out a excellent and potential concept: I love it... !

Still exploring the concept of giant billboards in a surreal type of environment. I thought i might put pictures of alien milltary figures on them. Not sure yet, what would you like to see? little fluffy clouds like in my first sketch, aliens or something else? I would appreciate your thoughts.
Thanks Jdd for looking in 8)The works of the surrealists is the type of feel that i'm working towards. I want to produce an image that inspires the viewer to imagine their own story line without being too specific about the content i use.

09-07-2005, 11:10 AM
I forgot to mention another idea that i'm playing with is having caricatures on the billboards expressing different aspects of human emotion. laughter, anger, sadness etc. I will probably go with this idea as it has the kind of surreal ambiguity that i'm after.

09-07-2005, 12:03 PM
It's concept one for me every time. I really dig that idea.

The second one is OK, but lacks the comic simplicity of the first.

Just thinking, it would be well funny if the billboards around that remote house were advertising normal stuff like cola or washing powder. Ie, in an advertising world gone mad companies resort to errecting huge ads in your own back garden that are only there for you to see. That idea makes me laugh.

Anyhow, good luck man, I look forward to seeing this progress.

09-07-2005, 12:42 PM
Sounds great dude.... i love it when a plan comes togeather

09-07-2005, 02:55 PM
Swamps... Lol, great idea, thanks for the imput, gives me lots to think about

Eddieellis.... thanks for looking in my friend

09-07-2005, 04:17 PM
Hi Steven,

Nice to see you're already started to turn your ideas into facts. So you gonna make an "environmental" image? Will you paint those alien pictures or those will be a kind of 3D?
Best luck mate!

09-07-2005, 04:27 PM
Hey - I like this billboard idea! How about huge pictures of the surrounding landscape on them? Like having the small house seen from different angles or something... could be really surreal I think. Looking forward to see how it turns out.

09-08-2005, 08:21 AM
Maquette is excellent... Swamps input is very intiguing... I wait your next concept image or evolution... until now I'm with you ! :wip: Very powerfull idea form beginning !

The concept
The one liners are a group of actors who have been employed to pull off the most spectacular scene in cartoon history. They aim to cram record number of one line gags into a scene but only have one shot at it. Will they pull it off? Watch this space and find out.
PS Postal pidgeon has been sacked for slacking on the job and has now been replaced by postal Vulture.

09-09-2005, 03:47 PM
Wow! Talk about a 180 idea turn here! I know this new concept of yours will be fantastic knowing your amazing character design abilities.

09-09-2005, 08:11 PM

09-11-2005, 04:33 PM
I think the new theme suits you better. The gorillas look great!

09-14-2005, 11:19 AM (

09-15-2005, 12:50 PM
Fair play for a totally off the wall concept. I'm not sure I understand it as yet but love the style of the characters thus far, especially the horse.

Keep up the good work.

09-15-2005, 12:55 PM
Hey handlebar, what a great characters you've created, and very funny too. Great job.

09-15-2005, 05:13 PM

09-15-2005, 08:30 PM
great horse handlebar-love the expression!

09-16-2005, 10:18 AM (

Crazy horse trotted over to Silo last night to see Dr Mesh, will now canter back to zbrush for a full makeover. Dental work will be done when he's made a full recovery, that's if the health plan covers it.

09-16-2005, 10:38 AM
lovely style ..I like the crazy horse a lot

09-16-2005, 11:37 AM
:scream::D:applause: Keep rockin Handlebar!

hiii handlebar

this's really great style and Fantastic character ............... all my best wishes for u .

09-19-2005, 10:35 AM (

Just sorting out a shader for my characters, ignore the texture its only temp. Kinda looks like a zombi horse with a yard broom stuck on his head atm.

09-19-2005, 10:44 AM
whoa love the way that you have given that horse character! really cooool! yard broom !! hahah thats funny man! :scream:

09-19-2005, 11:14 AM

Love their legs and subtle exaggerations... May they get eyelids to emphasise their expressions?

Keep the flow going mate:thumbsup:

09-19-2005, 03:54 PM
ahaha - love the expression on that horses face - he looks just as if he's about to kick someones butt. Absolutely hilarious :scream:

09-19-2005, 04:10 PM
I think that velvety material will work well with these models. Actually I don't mind the colour on that horse, grey horses have a kind of mystic spooky thing going on. I'm not sure but maybe the hooves need something?

09-19-2005, 07:23 PM
superfantastic expression on the face handlebar, and the eyes are perfect!

09-19-2005, 07:25 PM
Man I want a horse like that! LOL! You should animate that!

09-20-2005, 10:07 AM (

Got the shader to look how i want it now, started to paint colour map in zbrush, and at last worked out how to get AUV tiles to work in Cinema 4d. whoopee, no more uv unwrapping.

09-20-2005, 10:38 AM
waw one beautiful piece again!
Want to see it all finished:scream:

good work mate

09-20-2005, 10:48 AM
the horse looks so funny. good job...

09-20-2005, 11:27 AM
a very very funny horse man...great job

09-20-2005, 11:57 AM
That crazy horse sure looks funny man! LOL :scream:
I'll keep an eye on this one.
Welcome to the Challenge & Good luck mate!

09-20-2005, 09:08 PM
that's one doggone good texture there handlebar! is the mapping easier in zbrush once you get the hang of it? I find it such a chore...I'm really interested in zbrush- you see some amazing results-how long did it take you to feel comfortable with it?

09-21-2005, 10:56 AM
Really impressed with the style you are developing here! That horse is spot on :)

09-21-2005, 11:43 AM
Thanks folks.

Zbrush makes textureing a snip. Just paint your model in projection master and use AUV tiles to save the need to unwrap your mesh. There is a new plugin coming for it soon that will import the entire zbrush canvas into photoshop so you can paint your model in there. You can't rotate your model while you paint on it instead you have to drop the model to canvas, in zbrush speek ,say to a side view, pick it up again with projection master and drop it again in say a front view to keep on painting. Zbrush has a million uses, i've only had it for a month or so, it's hard to get your head around at first as it doesn't work like a traditional 3d app, but i'm slowly getting the hang of it, and growing to love it.
Check out the new demo, but don't be put off by the quirky way of doing things, you'll soon get the hang of it, its one of those apps where you definately do need to read the manual. The zbrush forum is also a wealth of information, and has a lot of great artists that are always willing to help.
I've found that zbush compliments cinema 4d very well.

09-21-2005, 11:54 PM
Great concept! The horse looks crazy good :D, so do all the characters, love the exaggeration. Real fun.

09-22-2005, 12:34 AM
Great emotion for donkey (ro maybe horse) dude, keep it up!

09-22-2005, 05:37 AM
thanks handlebar- zbrush sounds very exciting..and reasonably priced, too I think.
I tried the first version once, and it was a bit odd- but it looks like it's a different programme now.very revolutionary.

I'm sure in years to come all the 3der's will laugh out loud that we had to model point by point and unwrap UV'S!!

09-22-2005, 05:57 AM
very cool character !!

09-22-2005, 09:32 AM (

Another addition to my endless character list. Sewer Crock was flushed down the loo as a crocklet and now lives in the sewers appearing out of manholes to snap up unsuspecting passers by.

09-22-2005, 11:16 AM
Congratulations handlebar, you models look so good, so well modeled and textured, and with a particular and wonderful style. Very good work.

09-22-2005, 02:32 PM
Hmmm... Steven was clearly fed an unhealthy amount of cartoons as a youngin...

Another fine character lands in the ring from the handlebar corner:thumbsup:...

09-22-2005, 05:16 PM
That crock is another great character! Nice work on the texture too. This one is coming together really fast.

09-22-2005, 09:24 PM
another great character handlebar! how bout a quick group portrait? when you're ready though!

09-23-2005, 08:37 AM (

Not quite a group shot Shakes but here's Crazy Horse and Rageing Bull before it all kicks off.

09-23-2005, 11:52 AM
Good luck mate

09-23-2005, 01:13 PM
Hahaah! Raging bull looks pretty deeply in thought and crazy horse looks like he's lining him up to take him down:thumbsup:...Keep these great characters coming at us Handlebar!

09-23-2005, 02:33 PM (

Kinda like this.

09-23-2005, 03:10 PM
