09 September 2005, 10:15 PM (

concept #1 - the Heist

I'm still toying with concepts.. but this idea seems fun. It's a burglar frog riding a mechanical Frog for his quick getaway after robbing a bank.

Funny concept.. "u don't see that everyday" kinda history. If I don't decide on this I'll do this after the challenge

09 September 2005, 10:43 PM
FROGY POWER!! heheh nice drawing man!! really interesting and funny... it also got a lot of potentials!!... hope to see more advancement of this concept lets bring on the polygons!!

09 September 2005, 10:51 PM

09 September 2005, 08:17 AM
Cool sketch, man. Looks like a fun concept. Is there a story behind why Frog?

09 September 2005, 08:33 AM
Glad to see you make the challenge Martin.

It's a very original concept you got here. Could be great !

09 September 2005, 08:50 AM
Amazing sketch ! Great Idea !

09 September 2005, 09:05 AM
awsome ........ so cool idea ...

the sketch tells us alot ... :)

09 September 2005, 09:14 AM
Yeah good concept :)

09 September 2005, 10:52 AM
ROFL this sketch is hillarious, I cant wait to see how you model the mechanical frog.:scream:

09 September 2005, 11:03 AM
HA! awesome! You do good work. Even if you don't go with it for the challenge look forward to seeing it later :)

09 September 2005, 11:10 AM
Welcome martin.Wish you great fun and good time trough this challenge pal...seeya arround.

09 September 2005, 11:13 AM
great to see you back Martin, love the concept. Good luck with the challenge.

09 September 2005, 11:16 AM
Nice sketch and idea...

Keep your work up, and enjoy the challenge :)

09 September 2005, 12:25 PM
Indeed and i also like the angle you drawn. It going to be an eye candy for sure  .

09 September 2005, 12:29 PM
Great concept and very nice sketch there.

09 September 2005, 08:37 PM (

another concept in mind, kinda crazy and ridiculous situation these characters find themselves in. The background is empty right now, but I wanted to focus on the key elements in the shot - the torpedo and the characters trying to disarm it.

trying to come up with more ideas.. comments always welcome

09 September 2005, 08:57 PM
wonderful concept/drawing!
the last one is a lot more spectacular due to the speed of the image.
so i would go for that :)

09 September 2005, 09:29 PM
Yes, this concept is sweet as well. I almost feel like something should be chasing them.

09 September 2005, 09:33 PM
wow that concept is amazing, i think its better than the frog idea.

i think it would be more dramatic if it was a nuke coming close to a city.

09 September 2005, 12:40 AM
haha, great concepts Martin (nice sketching btw, reminds me of a few comics form the "olden days"). I think the second concept is more spectacualr then the first. Good luck on deciding.

09 September 2005, 12:47 AM
I think the second has more speed and motion.:)

09 September 2005, 05:02 AM
:bounce: :bounce: :bounce: I like the second concept, Looks more promising to me, The scene has lot of depth in it also the character expressions looks good.

09 September 2005, 05:03 AM
Goodluck! Great dynamics in your sketch. I really feel for those two:)

09 September 2005, 05:04 AM
Your entries always have a wonderful sense of whimsy, and humor that I just find so... Well spectacular. I think this will be a stupendous entry. Really looking forward to following your progress!

09 September 2005, 05:21 AM
Yeah... this one is certainly more Spectacular than the first one... but I don't know exactly which one I really prefer... maybe the first, cause you have over the subject a funny touch and a great originality... then, certainly the first for me... but anyway, the second is a good action scene

09 September 2005, 05:31 AM
another great idea. good luck choosing which one to go with :)

09 September 2005, 06:18 AM
the second is more spectacular to meee......try fill the bakgroound...and it will be more nice .....good luck:thumbsup:

09 September 2005, 06:24 AM
That is a great sketch and idea-it's going to look great.

09 September 2005, 07:07 AM

I'd go with speed and heroism (dismantling the bomb) I think those two things will be more appealing n an image but they might be harder to express....

09 September 2005, 07:13 AM
The speedy sketch definitely has a more immediate impact - and I'm curious to see what you might make of the background

09 September 2005, 07:40 AM
Nice Sketch too !
AS Lemog said, this one is more spectacular, very dynamic...

09 September 2005, 08:09 AM
I really like the froggy idea:) I think it matches perfectly the subject. Go for it!!
The other sketch is really cool too. Both are really original.

09 September 2005, 08:31 AM
I love the frog one, but your second sketch in question of action kilsl really! Very dynamic and a strong impact.

09 September 2005, 08:38 AM
Yup..from point of action second sketch is more dynamic ...but first has more fun and gives the freedom for more details..i think :bounce: .

09 September 2005, 08:58 AM
Argh, I can't decide.. I think they're both cool

some other things that aren't in the sketches:

frog idea: the mech frog's tongue holding a bunch of money bags, and using it as a large wrecking ball to trash police cars. On the street are a legion of smaller frogs attacking police guys.

torpedo rescue idea: something in the background either chasing or emergin from the water.. perhaps a top-secret renegade sub, or menacing robot.

09 September 2005, 09:57 AM
Personnaly I prefer the frog idea. More original I think. But maybe with a different point of view.
The torpdeo is more spectacular but I think there wil be so much like that. Although I think you can do something better than the others.:scream:

09 September 2005, 11:35 AM
Honestly, that torpedo concept has the makings of a spectacular image. The frog concept is cool but it lends more towards stylized sci-fi and will invoke mixed interpertation by the viewers. The second concept shows right of the back , speed, danger, intensity, drama, awe, tension, panic, .......should I keep going? :)

Also, I think if you added anything else like a robot coming out of the water or a sub or whatever, it will just kill the initial magic you have already established. All you need is some awesome post effects accentuating the speed and put those bad lads high in the clouds.

(Just my 2 cents  ) Nice work bro.

09 September 2005, 12:42 PM
Like it. Better than the frog in my opinion.

I thought it'd be good to get some sense that they are seconds from the target but then I noticed that the guy flying is looking up as to to say "Sh!t, that ship/city/whatever is getting pretty damn close!". Was that intentional?

Perhaps he could be clinging to the disarming guy by the tips of his fingers only able to hold on got a few seconds more...

Let's face, we all know they're going to disarm the torpedo and save the world, but if you can give the impression that they're doing it by the skin of their teeth than you've got a very spectacular image.

Good going.

09 September 2005, 02:31 PM
This one reminds me of the xXx Vin Diesel movie :p

How about the guy's sleeve stucks in the torpedo and what keeps them from flying up? :D

09 September 2005, 02:35 PM
great...! very spectacular situation...

09 September 2005, 02:44 PM
yeah i love the point of view, very dynamic and dramatised..sorta keeps you in your seat... *choice time*

09 September 2005, 02:46 PM
Yeah nice sketch i love it :)

09 September 2005, 03:10 PM
This one reminds me of the xXx Vin Diesel movie :p

How about the guy's sleeve stucks in the torpedo and what keeps them from flying up? :D
not a bad idea.. sweet ;p

I've seen xXx, but don't remember a scene like this one.. bad memory

09 September 2005, 09:28 PM
The second concept is very good and probably more spectacular but the first is my favorite. Really can't go wrong with either idea.

09 September 2005, 09:32 PM
yeah! i liked the second sketch. i like super heroes!

good luck!

09 September 2005, 09:39 AM
Hi Martin,

sorry 4 visiting your thraet this late ;)

Very SPECTACULAR sketch!

Godd luck to you, i whish you the best Friend!

09 September 2005, 01:56 PM
Fine sketch Martin! Your environment will be kept in blur or you will make some stuffs for that?

09 September 2005, 02:28 PM
I'd also recommend the second sketch. The first one is fun. But doesn't have that appeal. You can make the second sketch fun as well. Have the trail from the missile kind of in a twirling path in the background. Would show the ride they had and add some fun.

09 September 2005, 01:45 PM
The first concept is excellent, but the second one beats it hands down. A truly spectacular image with it's own taste of humor. I strongly recommend the torpedo one, it's just mind-blowing.

And I agree that you shouldn't put any other elements in the scene... it should be just them, the torpedo and the rising tension. :)

09 September 2005, 09:38 PM (

I've decided on doing the Heist concept. It seems alot more challenging to me in project scope, and the opportunity to model funky frog characters instead of more humans ;p

I've started on the Frog Mecha, it's the head WIP

comments welcome.

09 September 2005, 09:40 PM
:bounce::applause: good start!!

09 September 2005, 09:42 PM (

uploaded the wrong image.. hehe.. ;(

09 September 2005, 09:52 PM
OOoooooh, that's what I call a very funky froghead

Do keep going!

09 September 2005, 11:21 PM
thats funky coool! some seriouse modeling there! no crits!

09 September 2005, 11:30 PM
Mr Toad's Wild RIDE... Well Mr Toad's Wild Bank Robbing Spree!

What a fun idea. I like the frogBot model thus far. Looking really good... I'm trying to imagine what it's tongue would be on such a device?

Well done!

09 September 2005, 02:46 AM
That frog mecha is just so cool! Can't wait to see it more done... Good luck!

09 September 2005, 05:28 AM
Good choice for the frog concept! I really think this one will stand out in terms of originality. Excellent start on the modeling, looking forward to the rest.

09 September 2005, 06:05 AM
I really dig that modeling. What are you using? polys or nurbs?
Can I see a wireframe? pliz

I have to say that I was more inclined towards the other concept, but you are free to pick whichever one you like.

Good luck :buttrock:

09 September 2005, 06:26 AM
Great start martin.... glad you desided to go with the froggy concept....

09 September 2005, 07:27 AM
Wow Martin, great work on that frog head love the detail.

09 September 2005, 08:36 AM
So the choice is done :scream:
The modeling is great absolutely nothing to crit.

09 September 2005, 08:44 AM
Finally, you choose the first, very good choice cause I prefered this one :scream: , with more originality and fun...

...and when I watched your first modeling pictures, I find an another reason with this top notch design of mechanical frog... perfect for me... that promise us a great wip/thread

Go Martin :bounce:

09 September 2005, 08:52 AM

mech frogs ... that is sooooo coooll

09 September 2005, 06:31 PM (

here's the model so far.. I've started on the shell of the main body. Once that's sortof done, I'll work out in the inner mechanics then tidy up the outer shell again.

09 September 2005, 07:13 PM
This is looking great Versiden keep it up mate, you've got a truly original tact going here:thumbsup:

09 September 2005, 10:35 PM

09 September 2005, 07:42 AM

Com'on Martin faster :D

09 September 2005, 03:28 PM
Cool concept, and great start to your robotic frog model. The machanical components look incredible, the design is really interesting. Keep it up. Alexi

09 September 2005, 12:19 PM
Hi Versiden, I like the frog idea, it seems more original and funny to me. So good choice there.
What I thought was good in the second drawing was the dynamic aspect, so here's an idea: why not try to pose your characters of the first concept in a more dynamic pose, like this you would get the best of both worlds, like they are in an escape pose with the cops aiming at them in the air.
Great modeling of the mecafrog.

Good luck and I'll be back!

09 September 2005, 01:19 PM
I com back a little bit late here... wonderful model on the frog... this starting point promise a spectacular reult in any case :applause:

09 September 2005, 06:04 PM (

moving along Slowly... here's my progress so far on the model. I still have to work on the outer shell, which hasn't been touch since the last update. I think the limbs are going to be the most challenging

09 September 2005, 07:08 PM
Incredible mecha frog concept!! congratulations!

09 September 2005, 07:12 PM
Wow, I love the detail with the mechanics this Frog is gonna kick when it is done, No pun intended.............

09 September 2005, 07:21 PM
Nice and clean! Goodwork!

09 September 2005, 08:14 PM

Very interesting job, keep the hard work!!

09 September 2005, 12:17 AM
The frog is looking Awesome man... Can't wait to see more.

09 September 2005, 01:04 AM
nice progress . But I think ur poly object does`nt have enough poly and it`s so lowres .

09 September 2005, 01:09 AM
Looks good

Good luck:thumbsup:

09 September 2005, 01:15 AM
It's going really nice, but I have to say, before I looked the frog-with-guy first picture, I thought you're modeling a Chameleon, a really good one.

Now I can also see a frog. I hope you don't get disapointed with the Chameleon thing. Either way, it's awesome!

09 September 2005, 05:12 AM
Without comments about your update... cause your modeling is always perfect and clean... a real pleasure for us... just continue like that Martin

09 September 2005, 10:48 AM
thanks everyone, I hope I can find more time to make an update soon

Falk = ye, it can even double for a lizard or Chameleon like you mentioned... i think amphibians / lizards have the same type of head

09 September 2005, 11:26 AM
superb modeling man!specialy like the way you have done the eyes! gives it kinda aura!

09 September 2005, 11:27 AM
Aya..the frog is sooo cool design...why u say that limps will be challenging?...u already have given character on the face of froggy...u 'll do great ! :)

09 September 2005, 11:31 AM
Without comments about your update... cause your modeling is always perfect and clean... a real pleasure for us... just continue like that Martin

09 September 2005, 05:52 AM
Yo that frog looks cool.Very nice modelling.

09 September 2005, 07:04 AM
Extremely cool progress on the mech frog. It'll be interesting to see how you manage the limbs - this will be a very spiffy model at any rate.

09 September 2005, 07:12 AM
Update update Martin ! :bounce:

09 September 2005, 07:59 PM
Yeah hungry for updates:bounce:

09 September 2005, 08:53 PM
as you can see Martin... we need update :scream:

09 September 2005, 07:08 AM
the update is coming... the legs are challenging.. it looks good on paper but totally crap in 3d. I'll have more time on the weekend to work on it.

09 September 2005, 07:13 AM
You are "on"... good news... we will be patient for the legs

09 September 2005, 07:20 AM
That's a very impressive Frog design there :)

Like the mechanical parts of it allot. Very good work.

09 September 2005, 01:05 PM (

the leg progress so far - mostly completed are the thigh joints. Will work on the foot tonight

09 September 2005, 01:14 PM
Hi. Nice design and awesome realisation... good work :)
I'm waiting to see more

09 September 2005, 01:18 PM

i think in the end will be a great job...

...not much to say about it (because it's clean :D ) ...but i wait for updates...

09 September 2005, 01:20 PM
Rocking dude:buttrock: :buttrock: :buttrock:

09 September 2005, 02:13 PM
that frog is looking really good! keep going.

09 September 2005, 02:50 PM
Excellent update ! Really love it ! Yes it seems to be a great challenge to do it in 3D and that it appears real and mechanical...

09 September 2005, 07:02 PM
Hey Martin:wavey:, You keep going from strength to strength here mate:thumbsup: My only suggestion would be to break up the bigger pices a little further and to add more little rivet holes... It's (as always) a stunning mesh though my friend... Keep Rokkin!:buttrock:

09 September 2005, 08:28 PM
That looks great! I'm going to have to steal that blocking in method next time I make a mech:thumbsup: .

09 September 2005, 06:13 AM
hey very cool design and execution, the legs looks very well modeled, this entry is going just parfect mate!:bounce::bounce:

09 September 2005, 03:21 PM
Wow man i found your thread! Modelling's looking sweet as usual, expecting something beautiful from you again!

Cheers mate

09 September 2005, 06:53 PM
Hey there. I can see facets along the edges. I think you need more subdivisions

Keep going. Very good job :)

09 September 2005, 09:57 PM (

update on the hind legs - I've done the foot and toes. I'll add more detail to the shin and thigh area, which will come later when I'm totally happy with everything.

There's also pipes and cables to add.. rigging should be fun ;p

I'm a little behind, I hoped to get the front limbs done by the weekend as well.. oh well ;(

comments welcome

09 September 2005, 10:15 PM
Woo-haaah! [think of this as some sort of ninja scream or something]

Can't come up with any crits I'm afraid, those legs look absolutely great

09 September 2005, 12:00 AM
I recall u saying that the legs would be difficult. :p :argh: ..wahhaaaaa.

Amazing smoothy stuff..

09 September 2005, 12:20 AM
an impressive mechanism!! creative a lot!congrats

09 September 2005, 01:43 AM
Damn Nice Job on those legs....

09 September 2005, 01:49 AM
Hey Martin,

The frog is looking great , the mechanical leg has a natural feel to it. Great job.

09 September 2005, 01:53 AM
This one reminds me of a project I am working on. I am designing a robot for a film with the idea that it COULD be built in real life if you had all the materials. I am designing the joints and mechanisms to drive pretty much every part of the body

Needless to say it's proving to be really hard

09 September 2005, 02:42 AM
wow cool mech leg, looks cool and very functional. alsome mate:thumbsup:

09 September 2005, 08:26 PM
@JamesMK, DimitrisLiatsos, Gus_clifton, Pgraphics, mmoir, nemirc, hhssuu // glad u guys like the mecha so far.. more to come, it'll look sweet with cables. I haven't added them since I don't quite know how to rig the cables to work with the pistons etc..

09 September 2005, 08:29 PM
Great work on the mech frog model.Great details man:thumbsup:

09 September 2005, 06:16 AM
Very beautiful and interesting kinematic for this leg... very possible :D

09 September 2005, 07:19 AM
very convincing mechanics on the legs man! and superb details!
great update and waiting for more!

09 September 2005, 08:46 AM
... I haven't added them since I don't quite know how to rig the cables to work with the pistons etc..

Easy ...:) ... just to much stuff to do.

1_ U make skeleton and u make it follow the mechanical parts.
2_ U make extra bones that follow the the cables paths.
3_ U skin the bones which follow the cables with..err..cables:scream:
4_ U parent mechanical parts(since they are mechanical and rigid ..u just have to parent them not skin them)
5_when everything is ok with mech parts ..u parent the bones of skinned cables to bones of mech parts ...Best place to parent them is on the root of leg .

Hope that helps.

09 September 2005, 09:53 AM
Easy ...:) ... just to much stuff to do.

1_ U make skeleton and u make it follow the mechanical parts.

Hope that helps.
sweet dude... I've actually never thought of making bones just for the cables.. makes sense tho..
I wasn't going to create any bones as the objects that make up the robot are essentially bones that just need parenting.
I'll see how it goes.. that certainly does help.. thx Dimitris

09 September 2005, 08:41 PM (

this is the weirdest thing ever.. I select an object, then hit "Z" to zoom extenz.. and my model vanishes in the Perspective viewport?

has anyone seen this problem before?

09 September 2005, 08:47 PM
Hi Martin, I have this prob sometimes with near and far clipping planes in the camera... try open up your camera settings and add to the values of the clipping plane should fix it;)
Good luck!

09 September 2005, 09:02 PM
Hi Martin, I have this prob sometimes with near and far clipping planes in the camera... try open up your camera settings and add to the values of the clipping plane should fix it;)
Good luck!

I don't have a camera in the scene tho.. I've tried adjusted the clipping planes for the perspective view, but nothing helped

thx for the info tho' ;p

09 September 2005, 01:37 AM
I've seen that happen too many times and yet I have no answer for it :(

Maybe if you zoom to selected... no idea.

09 September 2005, 01:44 AM
me too! I gave up on MAX a long time ago due to crappy issue like this. The GL - IMHO is one of the most crappiest of all the apps.

09 September 2005, 01:45 AM
I have had this happen more than once and it's a freaking mystery. Try and move the model to the 0,0,0 origin and sometimes, not always this will fix it. I think it's a max glitch.

09 September 2005, 02:30 AM

has anyone seen this problem before? It rarely happens (and only with the perspective), but when it does, i switch to an ortho view so it zooms in, then switch back to perspective so perpescive starts zoomed in. Only happens to me though when I have a lot of objects spread out into pace, guess it gets confused:shrug: .

BTW, my viewport is drawn with DX if that matters. I never tried OGL in max:/.

09 September 2005, 02:38 AM
Very cool job so far!
I am liking the way that you are making that mesh
Extremely it cleans and organized! The design kick ass too!
keep going
c ya

09 September 2005, 03:52 AM
Great frog, it's very diferent. And the story is very funny. Great work.

ok I'll try that.. thx

how do I switch to ortho view? the only way I know is to create a camera in the scene, and activate ortho view for the camera - but how to do it for perspective?
I'm using Direct3d.. switched to OGL and didn't help either. I've also tried with max7 (im modelling in max6) and it seems the bug is still there. thx for the suggestion ;p

09 September 2005, 01:14 PM
very impressive mechanical model... :applause:

09 September 2005, 02:01 PM
Wow such clean modeling! Looking really nice!

09 September 2005, 03:25 PM
Rocking and impressive update dude:thumbsup:

10 October 2005, 09:05 PM
how do I switch to ortho view?

The ortho views are just front/back/left/right/top/bottom. When you switch to them from a different view it zooms in on (0,0,0) and from there you just find your model and switch back to perspective where you will be centered there. Also try switching the zoom extents button to "zoom extents selected." Sometimes when it messes up, it is because the objects are in a group; in that case you can open the group, select an object, then press the "zoom extents selected" button. I'm not 100% sure on that, I'll open up the file I had that trouble on to check (if i can find it:P ).

10 October 2005, 01:57 PM (

I've almost completed the arms, a bit of clipping on the bicep area - but I'll fix that when it's rigged properly.

I can't seem to render everything at once.. mental ray runs out of memory, and vray gives Unexpected Exception errors. It's just not my week ;p. That's weird since the previous challenge I had far more objects in the scene, and this is still an untextured model.

For now I've managed to render it with 1 arm.. hehe, hope I sort out a the render issues

The body shell is still unfinished and undetailed - I'll fix that last when I've done the main character.

10 October 2005, 01:57 PM
Haha that's a new mystery in max! Can't really help you there, but your progress is good as always. Modelling is precise and I can't really find any fault in it.

Cheers to a pro modeller!

10 October 2005, 02:49 PM
Excellent stuff martin ! Continue !

10 October 2005, 03:21 PM
Hey, beautiful frog! I love that modeling, nice art-deco curves ;).

10 October 2005, 03:25 PM
Hi Martin,,I like the frog robot design.Clean modeling, good stuff here.Keep sharp pal.
Seeya arround.:)

10 October 2005, 04:54 PM
Sorry to hear about the technical problems - but on the good side of things, the model looks ACE

I guess that would qualify very well as a Pythonesque "crunchy frog" too with all those mechanical components.

10 October 2005, 05:24 PM
wow i like the way u turn the organic shape into a mechanical model :applause:
good luck man :)

10 October 2005, 06:33 PM
Dam!! this is realy looking awesome!

I love your mechanic design!

EXTREEM COOL:thumbsup:

10 October 2005, 06:34 PM
Wow....amazing work, this frog has oodles of personality...i love the balance and feeling of weight this posture gives. This is now my favourite challenge thread

10 October 2005, 07:06 PM
Robo-frog looks awesome! :scream:

10 October 2005, 07:15 PM
Damn! i am truly sorry i hadn't subscribe myself to your thread before, I hadn't seen it!, but now i got my chair in! and it is really rocking, great model of the mechanical frog, i hope you solve your rendering troubles soon and put that textures on it! c ya later Martin!

10 October 2005, 07:31 PM
lol, your just unlocking the worst of max aren't you? Model looks great so far. Hope you get these technical difficulties ironed out. How many polys is this thing to make MR run out of memory with one model? How many lights?

10 October 2005, 07:32 PM
martin welldone .....i am happy you fix the problem ...... go go go :bounce:

10 October 2005, 07:59 PM
It's  . I love it. The next, the next, THE NEXT.

++ ;)

10 October 2005, 05:03 AM
I'm really in the charm of your frog design... very sad about your prob, I hope you can fix it soon... Go Martin

10 October 2005, 06:19 AM
I really love the robo-frog model. Great ideas and design.

As for your mental ray issues, I had some similiar problems a while back when I was using Max, and you're right, it seemed like some scenes with tons more objects did fine, while seemingly smaller scenes choked things up. You might try collapsing everything to an editable mesh (if you're done with the parametric side of things). Another thing that seemed to work for me was exporting the mesh into a new scene. I have no idea why, but it seemed to solve the problem a few times. Maybe Max creates a lot of scene garbage or something. (This was in an older version, though.)

Well, keep up the good work!

10 October 2005, 08:18 AM
Very nice mechanical frog.Great work and keep it up.

10 October 2005, 08:21 AM
I really like the way your frog modeling is going on. Great progress in every update! I hope you can fix your technical problems. I want to see more...:bounce:

Stylish!!C Cool werk!

10 October 2005, 09:02 AM
thx for the support everyone... much appreciated!

answers to some questions:
@ace4016 - so far it's just 1 omni and a skylight with FG on. I haven't counted the polys yet..
I think I figured out the problem to my vanishing model when I zoomed extenz.. I had a parent linking problem, and I think when I grouped my objects, I had a linked object outside my group - if that makes any sense ;p

@vrf - interesting test on the new scene solution, I'll try it if all else fails.. thx for suggestion. I think i'll try again tonight;p

10 October 2005, 10:02 AM
Very nice idea you got there, thumbs up. The modeling of the mechanical frog turns out very good as well, the look of the frog just does it for me :D
Keep on working, this is one of my personal favorite threads.

PS: I never had any problems when rendering, even very high polycounts have rendered quite good, those are a wicked problem, the rendering and mem errors, sorry can't help you.

10 October 2005, 09:33 AM
Hey awsome final result on that character! superb work you've done. Will be coming back to see the next charcters.

10 October 2005, 09:39 AM
I think it`s so strong modeling also lighting .(Ignore some lowpoly parts) .wait for texture .

10 October 2005, 10:08 AM
great work. no critics yet. keep it up... :buttrock:

10 October 2005, 10:55 AM
very nice concept of the frog!I want one of it to put on my work place as reference for future mechanism modeling, haha!congratulations!

10 October 2005, 11:07 AM
great work on frog robot...i'v seen the concept,i know the idea...and looks like its coming up nicely ....carry on dude!!!

10 October 2005, 11:44 AM
Love the mech design of the frog.

very nicely detailed.

10 October 2005, 01:19 PM
thanks for the input guys...

I'm still getting difficulty rendering it fully.. not sure why I'm getting errors. I'm going to move onto other characters and come back to it..

10 October 2005, 01:35 PM
What kind of errors?

What is happening?

10 October 2005, 01:39 PM
amazing model martin...very good work:thumbsup:

10 October 2005, 02:05 PM
What kind of errors?

What is happening?

under mental ray, "Insufficient memory". Max crashes or render fails
In the scene, 1 Omni with mental ray shadows, 1 skylight. FG on

under Vray - "Unexpected exception error"
in Scene, 1 omni with vray shadows. GI on.

If I delete 1 arm, it's fine.. if I try to render with both arms I can't render it. I've had more objects in previous before so I can't understand it.

using Max6 (max7 also gave errors)
PC = AMD 2800XP, 1 gig ram

10 October 2005, 02:28 PM
hmmm,. sounds like one of the objets in the arm,.

have you tried to same as something else and colaps the arm.

it sounds like a mill. hidden objects in the arm.
good luck on fixing it.

10 October 2005, 06:18 PM (

sketch for the Frog Boss, I've changed him from the initial sketch to be more overweight

10 October 2005, 07:45 PM

10 October 2005, 08:25 PM
Great work so far, the boss concept looks awesome.Go on:scream:

10 October 2005, 10:03 PM
The legs come out great and the frog boss concept is perfect...I really love this piece...

10 October 2005, 10:36 PM
the sketh is very cool, it reminds me to the king of gungans from star wars episode 1. Very job mate:thumbsup:

10 October 2005, 05:08 AM
Why not... good change... but are you sure that this guy will be not too much heavy for the poor mechanical frog ? :D

10 October 2005, 07:39 AM
Love your Frog Big Boss:) . Really cool!!:bounce:

10 October 2005, 06:24 PM (

my progress so far.. a little bit messy for now..

10 October 2005, 06:25 PM (

10 October 2005, 06:28 PM (

more to come..

10 October 2005, 06:46 PM
nice layout of the frog boss

still having trouble with the mechfrog render??
have you tried "save selected" on the leg and merge it in a new scene, to see if it renders, if not take it apart until i does and merge it back.

10 October 2005, 07:08 PM
Could you have possibly done a better job on this model?! I love this. Great character and definitely "big boss man"-like!

10 October 2005, 07:29 PM
you are so ......

:: Creative

10 October 2005, 10:50 PM

10 October 2005, 10:42 AM
I love it martin; Frogs are often great inspiration for big boss.

10 October 2005, 10:44 AM
Great looking boss! He's got a very convincing self-righteous attitude already.
