Latest Update: Final Image: FINISHING LINE (

It’s all imagination and science Fiction you see in this Picture.
Itīs all about What if…

What if the people in the 19th century had already the ability to hover….
What if they are doing awesome World-Championships with hovering vehicles…

Saturday. 9 March 1910

One of my worst days …but also one of the best days in my whole life.
It is near at the end of the final lap. My RICHTHAMMER - Hover Racer runs like hell and everything seems to be perfect.
I can touch the smell of victory this time, and there are only 2000 meters to go. Only one last corner and there it is… the great arena… finishin line.
The crowd goes wild, and I can smell their testosterone. But something went wrong… whatīs that noise… This dam sucker in the AUTO-UNION. DAM it! Iīm HIT!
My rudder blocks and i canīt control my Hover-Racer. OH MY GOD… the sky turns red. Someone must have crashed into my left rudder.

Everything is like slow-motion now.
I can fell the pressure from my heartbeat bumping blood into my vains… bum…. bum…. bum…

My eyes went to the right side of my cockpit and I saw this pure guy in his racer hitting the track-margin and become a ball of fire flying right into the arena.

Things are speeding up again and heart is bumping like a capoeira drummer. VICTORY!
I cross the line short before that sun of a bitch to my right. It was his fault.

This should be the happiest day in my life, but my face is covered with tears…
There he stands on the podium… to my right side. Smiling like he has won the race… but he doesn’t!!
This was my day!

There is only one thing left i have to do…..

Itīs an incredible feeling to broke your fingers hitting that dam smiling bastard.

Now i feel better.

09-08-2005, 12:44 PM
Hi Vampeta,

Good luck for the challenge.

the scfi racer - scene has a lot of potential. Iīm mostly interested to watch how the design of the vehicles will look like.

the only disadvantage of this topic is probably that there will be a lot vehicle/Environment images with the same content for this challenge. But thatīs no reason to stop doing it.:)

09-09-2005, 09:06 AM (

Ok.. Here we go.

This is how one of the racing vehicles should look like.

It is a hover vehicle with a powerfull rocket engine.

Iīm a greart fan of the old racing cars from the 30ths - 50ths. Secial the silverarrows from mercedes.

i will try to catch the spirit of this time area with these awesome cars and put it into a semi-futuristic like environment... but recognizable ;)

So... hope you like it :)
And thanks 4 the awesome feedback Friends.

P.s: Only one week left and then i have vacation :bounce:

See ya Alex

09-09-2005, 09:23 AM

Kind of reminds me of slot racers back in the 70s. Cool design, looking to see how you will make it spectacular!
My entry:

09-09-2005, 06:13 PM
Very cool racer design there! Futuristic, yet somewhat linking back to the old racers of the 30's and 40's too. Excellent.

09-11-2005, 02:08 PM
Hi Folks.

THX 4 all that awesome feedback!!

I always wanted to do a kind of racing Image...
This Challenge has a lot of capabilities, and you are not focused on a special environment. You can do what ever you like, as long as it is SPECTACULAR ;) !

Iīm not sure that my idea hits the target this time ;) ((like the last challenge :scream:ha ha ha))

Letīs see how this SPECTACULAR event will end :D:)

See Ya

09-11-2005, 02:22 PM
Great concept, and nice sketch. I can't wait to see what evolves out of this. Good luck.

09-11-2005, 02:28 PM (

Hi Folks,

iīm playing with photoshop a bit to find out what kind of color - conzept & environment i want in my scene.

Hope you like it.

P.s: the cars a from an old painting i found on the net... so please donīt wonder, itīs just a conzept-sketch ;) )

09-11-2005, 02:36 PM
great concept vampeta! Looking forward to seeing it progress. I take it your going to have the race vehicles motion blurred? Im asking because it seems like the obvious thing to do, but might make it harder to see details and such.

09-11-2005, 02:39 PM
This is one serious looking colour sketch. Love it. If you can somehow manage even a grander view, it'll probably be a winner. Love your Grand Space Opera. Congratulations.

My spectacular entry:

09-11-2005, 02:46 PM
great concept vampeta! Looking forward to seeing it progress. I take it your going to have the race vehicles motion blurred? Im asking because it seems like the obvious thing to do, but might make it harder to see details and such.

Hi percydaman,

nop! there will be no motion blure on the vehicles... but on the enviroment, and maybe on the racer behing.
You knew.. motion blure is a very simple way to hide details but make the image look impressive. But i donīt like this way.

I think itīs more important to give the viewer some space to discover a new detail every time he watched the image ;)

And thanks 4 your feedback.
Cheers  Alex

09-11-2005, 03:23 PM
What, no sponsor logos on the race cars? You know: Solent Green, Bachelor Chow, Clone-a-Cat, Taco Bell Fine Restaurants, Johny-Cab.... :D

09-11-2005, 03:28 PM
very exciting progress here.
the colour sketch and the retro-scifi design of the vehicles are very nice.
the perspective of the colour concept is very strong.
keep it going.:)

09-11-2005, 04:03 PM
:DHi preuss, welcomeback my friend to this spectacular challenge.

The idea:
An explosion in a race,, yeah, i like it, i have seen a lot of crashes in races in the tv, and is a spectacular tragedy. Good idea man:thumbsup:

09-11-2005, 04:43 PM
looks cool :)

09-11-2005, 05:00 PM
Your concept is extreme, but donīt have the quality than your space opera.
You use the explosion for call it spectacular.
I hope you change the concept without explosion.
Anything more softness, maybe the velocity, the danger.
Good luck.

09-11-2005, 05:00 PM
The color concept is amazingly awesome It got all the elepments to be spectacular!!! I think the final piece's goign to be way cool!

Looking sweeet so far. Put in some engine, and it will surely kick some ass.

09-13-2005, 10:05 PM

09-14-2005, 12:55 AM
Hey Alexander ,

I wasn't to keen on the concept when I first saw it but it is growing on me , your doing a fine job with it and I am sure the final will be great. The last concept sketch is great and your model looks very cool so far. Good luck with this.

09-14-2005, 05:41 AM
Nice RichHammer Alex...

by seeing this creation, that recalls me a project which I have at the head since already much time, to recreate one of these mytic races on the circuit of Rheims near where I live, at times of the glorious hours of these formulas. Circuit closed for a very a long time. Perhaps that I would have time to do it one day, in any case, you give me really desire with these particular forms. Thank you for the inspiration.

09-14-2005, 07:56 AM
love the shape and aerodynamics of it...

09-14-2005, 01:40 PM
Hey preuss....update, updates!, i want to see more:scream:

09-14-2005, 02:10 PM
... Vampeta! This challange seems to be more in line with your personal preferences... almost geared up just for you :) Some old-school gaming-sessions at your former place come back to my mind looking at your concept-ideas and first sketches. BTW, did you have a chance to try "WipeOut Pure" on the Sony PSP yet? Marvelous... the best one of the whole series yet! I don't dare to imagine what's in it for a PS3-version of that game :)

Regarding sponsor-logos... here are my top-5 sugguestions:

Dr. Pepper
Kukident 3-Phasen Tabs
AG Systems
Best regards...

P.S.: Sorry, I couldn't make it last weekend. My situation here is really a mess.

09-14-2005, 04:50 PM (

Hi Folks,

Here is the Head from Mr. Bronson.

Itīs my "very first" ZB model.
The basic shape was done in max and the exported into ZB to get a better feel of the proportions.

Hope you like it
Cheers  Alex

09-16-2005, 09:22 AM
Hey vampeta,

just have a look at the 10/2005 issue of PC-Magazin. I saw a picture of a F1 crash on the front-page. I think there are some movies of crashes on the DVD.

09-17-2005, 09:04 AM
Hey Russel,

Thanks 4 the hint :)
I got myself some television captures from old F1 chashes. The are always spectacular.

Iīm not so sure if it is the right way to play with explosions and catastrophes... i saw a lot of them in this Challenge...

but nethertheless.... at the end i will have another image 4 my portfolio :scream:hahaha

Thanks to everyone 4 the great feedback!!
I will be back soon ... Cheers: beer: Alex

09-17-2005, 06:44 PM
Hello vampeta, cool head, with a interesting expression. Good work.

09-17-2005, 09:16 PM
hi Alex
the head is looking nice! but i think u have a lot yet to refine in zb eh? keep it coming!
cheers man!

09-17-2005, 11:15 PM
Great head so far, I will be back lata to see what is you have done in this diabolical attempt to steal the crown from everyone,LOL , holla!

09-18-2005, 04:03 PM
Hey there. Just dropping by to see how it goes.

I dig the concept and also that color test. However I think you could capture more collision on the image. Maybe the back car's nose hitting the front car's side or something like that just to show they have completely lost control of the vehicles

09-18-2005, 04:10 PM (

Hi Folks,

Here are some ideas for a possible environment.

Hope you like it ;)

09-18-2005, 04:13 PM
Is this race taking place in a stadium or throughout the city? Nice start on the environment.

09-18-2005, 04:23 PM
do we have to have a 2d sketch of our concept or can we do a 3d still of our concept?

09-18-2005, 04:30 PM
the design looks cool man! no crits! model away alex!

09-18-2005, 04:33 PM
Hi Jeff,

Thanks Friend, I think i will let this event happen in a stadium with special raceways.

do we have to have a 2d sketch of our concept or can we do a 3d still of our concept?

You can do what ever you like as a concept sketch... 2D, 3D... it just have to show your general idea! I like to it in 2D, itīs a good way to exercise your skills in every dimension ;)

Good Luck and thanks 4 visiting
Cheers  Alex

09-18-2005, 05:30 PM
Are you architect? The enviroment is very impressive.

The architecture details are new classic. Are you in the future with antique arquitecture.

Could you explain your enviroment concept, please?
And the flags, ummmm I donīt understand.

No Problem: ;)
My Story will take place in an alternative universe near the year 1900-1920.
But in this altenative universe things are a bit different.
What would be if they had the ability to hover or to fly at this time?!
I want to capture the spirit from this area and the atmosphere from the first F1 Races with the great "Silverarrows" or "Bugattis" ...but with some futuristic aspects.

I knew this is all fiction. But thatīs the fun part 4 me ;) :)
I donīt want to recreate some existing photo or artwork... i like it more to create fictive worlds.

Nevermind, thanks a lot 4 the great feedback!

Cheers  Alex

09-18-2005, 07:03 PM
awesome concept, you should have something like a white dove flying above the accident glowing in the light to make it look more astonishing. Good Luck

09-18-2005, 08:40 PM
I just had a silly idea: if the cars hover, why not have the race track also have loops and vertical climbs? What a view it would be to see a crash on a vertical climb part of the track! Keep the updates coming.

09-18-2005, 09:13 PM
Looks like this is going to be some thing spectacular

Good luck

09-18-2005, 10:31 PM

Wow. Those arena sketches look positively marvellous. So far you're managing to capture the "spectacular racing event" feeling perfectly.

09-19-2005, 02:20 PM
Great sketches (the scene and enviroments concepts looks awesome); the cars are also turning out pretty sleek (kinda reminds me of the old F-Zero video game). :)

09-19-2005, 02:26 PM
Arena scetches rock :) ...indeed in the spectacular feeling.

09-22-2005, 07:19 AM
Great start on the environment models - looks grand and classically race-tracky in a futuristic kind of way. Looks like we're headed for another serving of some reliable Mr Preuss quality.

09-25-2005, 05:41 PM (

Here is my first texture test on the track surface.

The idea is, that it is build of large concrete patterns fixed on a metal construct on the bottom.

See ya & thanks 4 your great support!

09-26-2005, 06:51 AM
Exactly style you need for your tracks

09-26-2005, 11:53 AM
Hi Alex,

See Ya

09-27-2005, 05:58 AM
Use particle instances

You could even use those instances to select different bodyparts... for example one particle loads chest a and head c while the one next to it selects chest e and head h and so on and so forth... Just a thought :)

my entry ( :deal:

09-27-2005, 06:59 AM
hi Alex some seriouse modeling there and nice design as always! and 6000 ppl models :argh:!

@yunisirees :: Thanks! ... Yes HUGE! ;)

@nemirc :: Thanks Friend thatīs a realy cool idea... i was planing to render the people in groups and put the together with post effects... but your Idea sounds even better... i will figure that out later! Thanks

09-28-2005, 02:55 PM
Ahahaa! I thought for a second there that you had been invaded by a small army of Lemogs :D

Looking good, Alex.

09-28-2005, 02:57 PM (

I started with texturing the Arena.

polygon count is at the moment 135.000 (only the left side) Iīm realizing that my NVidia quadro is starting to slow down a bit (in shadet mode) :0

Dam! i need a bigger mashine ;) ha ha ha

Cheers Alex

09-28-2005, 03:34 PM
Good work Alex! Looks like you're going to have problems with the completed scenes once all models are finished?

09-28-2005, 09:45 PM (

Just experimenting with outdoor lighting and mental-ray.

09-28-2005, 09:57 PM
@JamesMK :: Hmm... small army of Lemogs?!.... i know how to fill that arena ;) :scream:hahaha

@jfelrod1960 ::Yea if i would try to render the whole scene in one step with all the people and textures and lights. That would couse a reactor leak in my warpdrive powered BOXX ;)
I think i have to build it up in layers.

Cheers Friends
See ya tomorrow

09-28-2005, 09:58 PM
Great entry, i love the arena :)
The final layout seems to be an interesting mix beteween futuristic and old buildings.
Sounds cool :)

09-28-2005, 10:35 PM
Hey Alexander,

That is an excellent view for the image, I like the curving track in the background . You are doing a great job

09-29-2005, 02:24 AM

Get rid of those "soft frames" around the tiles and I will die a happy man :)

09-29-2005, 08:40 AM

Alex this would make a great video game! :D
Good work!

09-29-2005, 06:36 PM

09-29-2005, 07:51 PM

09-29-2005, 09:23 PM

09-29-2005, 10:28 PM
@melkao :: Thanks! nee! that are just some test trees to get a rough view of the final composition.

@mmoir :: Thanks i hope so ;)

@nemirc :: also Thanks! Hmm... Noaboo... i thought more at a movie from "Fritz Lang" ;) ha ha ha

@jfelrod1960 :: Thanks friend! Yea great idea! you know i was 7 years in the game industry, 4 years ago. I dit the 3D Models for "X-beyound the frontier" & "Xē" and a lot of smaller projects. Thatīs maybe the reason why my models look somehow like game models... but... iīm working on that ;) :scream:hahaha

09-29-2005, 10:40 PM (

10-03-2005, 08:29 AM
hi Alex ... nice details there! and the building looks great!

I think it looks a little modern ;)

heheh sorry but i have to agree ;)!

10-03-2005, 01:49 PM
I think it looks a little modern ;)

Maybe? I would value these guys opinion more than one from me, but if you ask me, I would say place it in the scene first and then see if it's too modern. Just my couple of pennies Alex!

10-03-2005, 04:17 PM
Great design again and lots of details added.I dont think its to modern looks good to me.
Keep it up:thumbsup:

10-03-2005, 04:20 PM (

Ok here comes the crowd.

my first idea was to place just some billboards with photos from people on the stand... but then i thought i would be more fun to model these people (and a good training in low-pol-modeling as well :) )

each person had at least 250 polygons. (the girl has 450 ;) )
I think thatīs enough, because you will see them only in very small size in the final.

They will be rendered in groups and placed with photoshop into the final.

Hope you like it and thank you all 4 your awesome feedback!

Cheers Alex

10-03-2005, 05:08 PM
Everything you post is ace dude, with a proper texture they will look very cool in the final i'm sure. Can't wait to see this scene completed, please make a render 1920*1200 aswell, kthx :p

10-03-2005, 06:32 PM
Good job with this crowd. The only thing that I would suggest is making things a bit more random. Maybe someone can be bending over to get their drink, another person can be talking into the persons ear next to them, and also, I think that they should not ALL be wearing hats. Outside of that stuff, very nice!

10-03-2005, 06:43 PM
Great concept and delivery vampeta. everything is looking amazing. The models the textures The angle of the the file scene. Keep up the good work. Inspiring :D :D

10-03-2005, 07:23 PM
Hahahahaha, I thought 6000 larger than that :scream:

Nice update. I have to see how it goes :)

10-03-2005, 07:30 PM
Fantastic... pretty people... with just needed polygons... perfect for sure... and largely sufficient. Really good design in the same way that the others pieces... That promise us something marvellous... continue like that Alex... you have gold in your hands

10-03-2005, 11:46 PM

Long time since I visited your thread, Alex, but you look like you are progressing "spectacularly". :D
Your enviroment and architecture is completely flawless (as usual :applause: ) and I love your designs for the crowd (they have a very Victorian-style to them - an nice blend of the Past and Future, I think).

All the best. :)

10-04-2005, 04:50 AM
Hi Lemog, ...stop it :):scream:Haha you driving me .... whatever :scream:hahaha
Iīm just following your footsteps! ;) Thanks Friend!

result is very sweet... good point for the following :applause:

10-05-2005, 08:55 AM
That guy is HUGE!!! ;)

Great concept and start to this project. The camera angle really puts us down in the action. Keep up the great work.

10-05-2005, 08:59 AM
Charles ! My favourite actor !
(of course, I'm kidding !)

10-05-2005, 10:30 AM

jajaja nice strange models....that models you willuse them in the final image or they are a test?:D

10-06-2005, 02:41 AM
That's bizarre...
"He's found a way to copy himself"
"so there's more than one?"
"... a lot more..."

 sorry, it's the beer

10-08-2005, 02:06 PM
@ nemirc :: Yep beer works fine on mee too :Dhahaha Thanks!

@ melkao :: Strange ?! of course they are! a thousend copies of charlses bronson would properbly look very strange ;) Hahaha. you will see the just very small in the Final image. and itīs a good way to handle this much bodys!

@ yunisirees :: Thanks! i hope it will ;) !

@ jfelrod1960 :: Yes Huge :D! Chhers Friend!

10-08-2005, 02:13 PM (

The left half of the arena!

I think itīs a nice result and i will go with it. currently counting 800 bodys.

I think at the end i will have at least 2000 bodys 4 the crowd (not 6000 ;) hahaha)

Hope you like it
See ya on the next update!
Cheers Alex
