Here it comes...
The basic idea is that somwhere exists a fountain which flows the water not affected by gravity, and sometimes birds (or other creatures) loves to come there and play with it, drink it, splash it and etc.
This sketch isn't exactly what I expect the final to look, but I hope it will give a basic understanding of what I am going to do... Excuse my drawing I am still learning my (GOD DAMN) hand...

See ya...

09-20-2005, 01:34 PM
I like the idea about the water not affected by gravity. Hope you'll amaze us. Keep up the good work and good luck.

Decided to give some progress...

I started to create a tubes of fountainan (more like: sketch of tubes) wich will flow the water and the birds skeleton to experiment on poses. Within I'm experimenting on layout. Have to try a diferent angles. No real modeling yet

09-23-2005, 09:14 PM
You've got the start of a cool image there. It'll be cool to see how you get the water going in ways it's not supposed to. very interesting. Waiting to see more.

Started to model my fountain tubes, this is part of ornaments that are going to be on them...

c&c are welcome

09-26-2005, 08:40 PM
Hi. Really nice start on modeling, and I love your poetic/original concept.:)

Good luck:thumbsup:

09-27-2005, 01:31 AM
very nice details. So you are going to make tubes where the water flows from? is that it? or am I getting it wrong?

09-27-2005, 02:34 AM
wow nice modelling, what method are you using to get neat details like that?

09-27-2005, 02:38 AM
Hey Andrius,

Some very nice detailed modeling , great job.

09-27-2005, 03:14 AM
Nice concept dude, nice detailed modeling I am anxious to see your next step, cause this
is a really interesting concept:thumbsup:

09-27-2005, 04:50 AM
Very nice ornament, great modeling

09-27-2005, 06:49 AM
nice details. myself, i prefer to build basic forms first for the whole picture, and only then detail those places that need it.

09-27-2005, 07:29 AM
razz Thanks, I'll see what I can do
MattGyver about the water - me too :scream:
SNoWs No you are getting it right mate
hhssuu Thanks, it's a loft modeling. Paths and shapes in other words.
david.mig, mmoir, ar LutiK, Thank you all, that's really sweet to hear that from you :)
uiron Yes you'r right this is the same I am trying to do. I on purpose do not sent the final concept scene because it may be tweaked quite a lot in progress, in any case the ornaments will sure be there... :wise: Aciu

09-28-2005, 11:14 AM
Nice model you got going there. Can you show us the techniqye in modeling that?

09-28-2005, 12:20 PM
that's interesting

09-29-2005, 06:17 AM
Yongkiat Thanks. Well that's easy, by using splines you draw a path and a shape that will follow that path, the using loft modeling method you pick those two splines and that's it. After that you can use a deformation tab for scaling, twisting and etc. Type "loft" in help of max it will be much informative I guess.

3rd user Thanks :)

Hello, started to model a bird.

10-01-2005, 10:13 PM
LAURO_MX, visualact.com, DaddyMack, eddieelis Thank you all for a great support, I'll try to do my best

Bird's leg, it took more time to do it then I expected

c&c are welcome

I know it's boring to look at some stupid bird's legs, but they have to be done anyway. It's like a food in dish - I always start to eat things I like less in it ;)

10-02-2005, 09:50 PM
Legs looks nice, but something wrong with birds head, I think you should work more on the eye. Sekmes :)

10-03-2005, 06:49 AM
Grubber Ok, I'll try to fix that, now that you've said I see they are a bit small comparing to references thanks

10-05-2005, 10:09 AM
http://features.cgsociety.org/challenge/entries/11/7843/7843_1128506969_medium.jpg (http://features.cgsociety.org/challenge/entries/11/7843/7843_1128506969_large.jpg)

Here comes the wing progress, hell with me, I jumping to all parts of my picture, want to make everything at the same moment, I have to stop that... anyway, don't look now at the textures cause they are made for better visual understanding how feathers are placed. The most important think now is to place all feathers corectly so they would construct a proper wing, I have to get more references, that's all for now... critism would be welcome. ;)

10-06-2005, 05:45 AM
Very nice feather, cool wing

10-06-2005, 05:02 PM
Hey, thanks ar LutiK, nice to hear some comments from you

10-06-2005, 05:10 PM
yes, good-looking feathers!

10-06-2005, 05:35 PM
hey man nice modeling...What kind of bird is this?

10-06-2005, 05:53 PM
(o)ne Thanks, it's nice to hear that, though the feathers will look better in future (I hope) :)

melkao Thank you, well this is a "birds of paradise", though not existing type actually... mostly I am using referneces of "paradisea apoda" also known as lesser or very similar type raggiana. So mostly it's shape going to look like that, but not the colors... or maybe though...

10-06-2005, 06:27 PM
awesome feathers, you're some kind of a madman to create them one by one?:]

10-07-2005, 01:43 PM
uiron Hi, well I used array for feathers placing and cloning, and after that scaled individually, tweaking the bend parameters on each of them, it actually took about an hour, so nothing mad about it truly...

10-07-2005, 03:40 PM
like the feathers. I was never that hot with doing birds. I don't have the patience for it

10-10-2005, 02:24 PM
http://features.cgsociety.org/challenge/entries/11/7843/7843_1128954246_medium.jpg (http://features.cgsociety.org/challenge/entries/11/7843/7843_1128954246_large.jpg)

OK, "feather placing" is almost complete, I think I'll have to tweak them in progress when I a'll make proper textures of feathers. For now only the shape texture (opacity) is done...

see you..

10-10-2005, 07:09 PM
OMG! The wing looks great! Cant wait to see whole bird!

10-10-2005, 07:23 PM
espectacular wing model:thumbsup:

10-11-2005, 07:59 AM
HillbilyKing Thanks, well I want to make birds as much natural as I can, though not real but natural for sure...

Grubber Hey, as usual, nice to see you here around Grubber. You will see it. :D

melkao Thank you it's a plesure to hear that.

10-11-2005, 06:37 PM
Awesome work dude, very nice modeling and texturing:thumbsup: , I respect your talent Man,
Keep up the good work and all the best:thumbsup:

placing everything in one place to get a better view of proportion, still the model isn't complete. Anyway after that I am going do put feathers on a bird using hair system, c&c are welcome...

Good night for now... ;)

10-11-2005, 08:09 PM
Thanks madshooter I had a bad day today, so your kind words really relaxed me, thanks again man...

10-11-2005, 08:25 PM
Stunning!!! I absolutely love those wings Andrius... Are you rigging it? If so, how?....

10-11-2005, 08:43 PM
amazin mesh, and cool details of the wings. how you made the wings?....(i need to make wings to another project).:buttrock:

10-12-2005, 09:01 AM
http://features.cgsociety.org/challenge/entries/11/7843/7843_1129107709_medium.jpg (http://features.cgsociety.org/challenge/entries/11/7843/7843_1129107709_large.jpg)

Ok this is mini explanation of how I did the wing, as you can see it was lot of planes bended, scaled moved and rotated, mostly I used array function and then manualy tweaked everything a bit... The othe wing side is going to be the same, just with some minor tweaking and, of course, a diferent texture...

10-12-2005, 11:47 AM
DaddyMack thanks, about rigging, still not sure, but I doubt, since I am not going to animate it I'll going to use some modifiers and manual rotation

melkao Thanks, see the post above this one

10-12-2005, 09:22 PM
that's Good...you should work more on the Feather...more complex Texture maybe

Started to create a body feathers, tuxtures are temporal

10-12-2005, 10:53 PM
Tons of detail in there... It looks very nice thus far. Can't wait to see it done!

10-12-2005, 10:53 PM
hie man! love the concept! ... and those feathers a very nice! something that im trying to do here too ehehe! the approach to feathering the bird is great!
cheers man!

10-12-2005, 11:04 PM
It looks like a blue penguin without the wing feathers. I like it, as usual. Come on, man. Give me something to criticize here!

10-13-2005, 08:14 AM
Well, I'm impatient to see the final renders with all the feathers on it...
Good progress man, keep it up.:)

10-13-2005, 12:26 PM
Hey Crying Horn... very beautiful concept and great progress on it... I can see a resemblance on both our works :) Good luck.

10-13-2005, 03:11 PM
amazing work man....do you made the hair with what?

10-13-2005, 04:42 PM
3rd user Yes of course, I haven't textured the feathers yet, thanks

HammaJamma Thanks, I'm glad you liked it :D

yunisirees Ahh yes, you are creating a bird too. Well I promised my self that I won't deal with fur and hairs in this challenge, but heh... didn't have any other choise, I just tryed it... and then couldn't find any better method then this... "fallof" shader just wasn't that good, a planes with slight feathers on it wasn't good eather, I am not so good with texturing yet.. :banghead:

MattGyver che che, yeah, now that you said... a fluffy blue pinguin che che... Actually a full island of them would look quite spectacular. Thanks, nice to see you here again man...

thierry2005 Yeah me too, even though a bit scared about synchronization of hairs feathers and textured feathers... Oh well will see how it will develop...

claudio_jordao Thanks, yes your image is gorgeus for me too. It's really unique that showed some kind of movement wich constructs the wing in it's progress... (at least I understand your image like that) thanks good luck to you too :D

melkao I made the hair with shag hair, thanks

After those god damn half exams I'm back to my image, excuse that long pause, those studys are real pain in the ... sometimes... finally made a final layout, started to make fountain, more progress soon, see you...
Oh man, I need to hurry...

Hi all, I've decided to give some progress of my water simulation, the most important thing now is a texture, I had to make a proper environment that would suit the image and made a great reflective look on water, anyway there is lot of experimenting and not much time, I am now working hardly on a final layout and right composition, I'll send it right away I'll be happy with it...

11-10-2005, 10:19 PM
Exellent idea and great modeling

I`m looking forward to see your progress on this interesting thread :bounce:

11-10-2005, 11:17 PM
Holy crap that texture is amazing! Very nice job. If I had to comment on anything it would be that the little bits flying off don't seems 'ball-y' enough. It looks truly fantastic though. Keep it up!

11-11-2005, 02:18 PM
Nomad thank you I'm happy that you liked :)

If I had to comment on anything it would be that the little bits flying off don't seems 'ball-y' enough

11-11-2005, 02:57 PM

Here it is, almost completed, some texturing still missing, the colors still may vary but mostly it will look like this. As I said before this is imagined bird but something similar to him are ragianna and lesser birds or paradisea apoda (birds of paradise) wich I mostly used as a reference. Sorry for static pose, couldn't resist not to send this render :) I'll send some more of him later, now I have to sleep it's 3.30 night... so goodnight to all...
c&c are welcome...

SOme changes... I decided to change all architecture... cause the old didn't looked good enough for me. SO this is is a new one, within a final layout (thank god), I still have to make rails, add vines, finish fountain tubes, split out of them water, add birds, add backround... yeah...

This is my part of background, The tree's textures were made with speed tree, in total I made 9 different of them, then rendered and put them on simple planes.

11-24-2005, 12:12 PM
http://features.cgsociety.org/challenge/entries/11/7843/7843_1132834368_medium.jpg (http://features.cgsociety.org/challenge/entries/11/7843/7843_1132834368_large.jpg)

This one was a bit harder, I modeled the tree by myself so it would look ok on final render, then I used speed tree to make leaf's planes on it, I had to put manualy planes on lower branch and some on the whole tree so it would look like those leafs are ... part of the tree :)

I made a quick test too see how it should look...

Your image has impressive colors and lighting:thumbsup:  , I like the composition of things so far too.

11-24-2005, 01:57 PM
The setting looks incredilble! I'm glad you're taking your time and making the surroundings a beautiful piece all by itself cause when you add that water and birds this is going to blow me away.

Can't wait to see it all come together.

11-24-2005, 04:50 PM
Great work. Very smart how you have built those trees for the background, they work well and must be fast rendering. Really nice modeling and texturing all around. I look forward to seeing this all pulled together.

11-24-2005, 05:30 PM
Really like the composition here, the colors are also beautiful:thumbsup:

11-24-2005, 07:21 PM
Coming very nicely, try darkening the shadows and brightening one of the lights a little. Again very nice :)

11-24-2005, 09:57 PM

glenn23 Hey mate thanks, yes I am very happy that I finally made a layout and almost everything is completed now I experimentally putting everything in one place and sinchronizing everything to suit the final, thanks again I hope I won't let you down. :scream:

Maxter Thanks I am happy you liked it!

gwhite206 Yes I know what you mean, don't worry I'll give each element in the scene his needed amount of light (I hope so...)

Squibbit That's great to hear that, thank you

Finished my fountain tubes, Finally I put those ornaments on them. I maded a bump texture of those ornaments to increese the performance and ability of rendering.

c&c are welcome...

11-26-2005, 02:33 PM
wow, you have done quite a lot of progress since I last visited.

I feel that the lighting can be improved a bit more. The tubes are almost flat and can barely be seen. See that splash of light on the fountain steps? That splash of light should be reaching your tubes. Maybe you are planning of adding a spotlight to the tubes... I don't know; but the birds and the tubes need to be emphasized more, your current light rig is not doing that IMO.

Thanks for a crit man, yes I know, that rendering was a quick that's why it looks so, the light which comes from above has a map on it's shadow, to give a feeling that something is a bove that fountain, so in this case it darkens the tubes and the birds, I'll fix that for sure  thanks again :D

11-26-2005, 04:32 PM
I don't know how I could have missed this until now, but I'm glad I found before the ending.
You have some great work here - it looks real good and some very clever work methods!

Once there was a man. When he was a child he used to play in the near woods with his favorite slingshot which he got as a present from his father. He shot leaves, trees, rocks, and he had fun. But once he saw a bird on the high tree drinking drops of dew from leaves. He looked beautiful, and his feathers on the back were gorgeous. The living target is something that a real hunter should hunt to, he thought. The bird looked calm and relaxed, he didn’t saw a human near by. The kid aimed and made his perfect shot. The bird immediately felt down on the ground near some green grass which started becoming red with bird’s blood. His scared look went to the young hunter who was coming towards him. With that look he started to move trying to safe himself, but he was too weak to do something. When the kid finally came close to him the bird was just staring at him with his dead eyes still full of fear. The kid started to cry and shake. He felt how his conscience began to torture him. He was scared so much that at one moment he almost swooned. Excuses seemed pathetic in that situation, though he was still screaming them. He felt like that for four days and nights. And then he made a promise, that some day his guilt will be redeemed.
His life continued, he became a professional architect and he was quite famous and very successful at his job. In his entire carrier he built lots of buildings, memorials and monuments which all were special, making everyone to smile and feel comfortable. When he became old he remembered his promise, he remembered it all the time. So he came back to that wood, and started to build a… fountain. This was the best work of all that he had ever done only by himself. When he finished it, he took a few steps back to see it all. He was standing for a while and thinking about something; “…four nights…” he gently smiled and said:
- This fountain will finish crying my sorrow over that bird which is still left in me…
After that he quietly went away.
When his soul left this world it was a warm late evening. That evening, birds of that wood first time accepted his warm, hearty, ingenuous and so weightless… magical redeem which finally has got forgiveness.

…breathe, drink, play, enjoy… …Four Nights Fountain…
